Common U.S. Cooking Abbreviations and Measurements

- T., Tbs., tbsp. – tablespoon (usually expressed with capital "T")
- t., tsp. – teaspoon (3 tsp. = 1 Tbs.; always expressed with small "t")
- oz. – ounce
- lb. – pound (16 ounces)
- fl.oz. – fluid ounce
- c. – cup
- pt. – pint (2 cups)
- qt. – quart (4 cups)
- gal. – gallon (4 quarts / 16 cups)
- doz. – dozen
- pkg. – package
- sm. – small
- med. – medium

Wet versus Dry Measuring Cups
They seem like they should be interchangeable, but you absolutely need one set of each. You can’t accurately measure flour in a liquid measuring cup, and though you can pour liquid into a dry measuring cup, once filled, it can’t be moved without spilling the liquid.
