New York City Hot Dog Relish
I'm told this tastes just like the hot dog relish that street vendors serve in New York City. However, I've not ever been to the Big Apple, so I'll have to take their word on it. I do know this is fabulous, and far tastier (and cheaper) than the bottled relishes I've bought.
I'm was used to green relish, so seeing a red one took me by surprise the first time. But now, the NYC version is one of my favorites.
- 1/2 c. water
- 1 med. onion, chopped
- 1/3 c. ketchup
- 4 T. cider vinegar
- 1 tsp. Coleman's dry mustard
- 1 tsp. paprika
- Freshly ground pepper
In a saucepan, combine all the ingredients. Bring to a boil on the stove.
Once it is boiling, reduce the heat; simmer 5 to 10 minutes, until desired consistency. Done!
