Inauguration Eve’s ‘Revised-Revised’ Costs: Drudge Reports Costs Have Jumped to $170 Million, Most Expensive in US History
Posted By Vicki McClure Davidson on January 19, 2009
Drudge Report now, tongue in cheek, states that there must not be a recession in the US because the latest cost of the inauguration has jumped yet another $10 million in the last few days. However, the most pricey perks to be had at the most expensive party in our nation’s history is going to the rich, and not mainstream America, because they are so over-the-top expensive. While the elite have indeed paid for their lavish VIP digs and transportation while in Washington, common taxpayers will be paying the ultimate tab for the umpteen presidential balls, security forces, clean-up crews, caterers, ad infinitum.
President-elect Barack Obama billed his inauguration as an event “for all Americans.” Say what? Did his “for all Americans” statement get misinterpreted and should have been “to be paid for by all Americans”?
No change, no hope… no kidding.
We also hope that Michelle Obama spends taxpayers’ money wisely on all her designer gowns for the umpteen presidential balls she and hubby will be attending. Mainstream media will likely downplay how much she spends, considering how vicious they were to Sarah Palin on what the Republican party (with donations, NOT taxpayer money) spent on her two-months-worth of campaigning outfits, a few suits for her husband, and a few dressy outfits and new shoes for her children for public appearances. The flip side — having the Palin clan show up looking like they were extras on TV’s Northern Exposure, wearing plaids and parkas — would have been treated just as cruelly by the media and elitist liberals. Michelle, however, can spend $900 on a pair of earrings for herself and receive a $30,000 rhodium ring from her husband as a thank-you for helping him during his campaign, what any supportive spouse would/should normally do, and there’s nary a snarky comment about the extravagance.
Hypocrites.
To date, we’ve seen no concerned nor negative mainstream media comments about the runaway cost of this blow-out inauguration fiesta.Nor is there any observance that this is 180 degrees from what Obama expects of taxpayers in the way of upcoming sacrifices. Spend, spend, spend, and most liberals are eating it up like wide-eyed hungry children in an ice cream parlor, saying America needs to “feel good again” and spending so much money on this party is just the thing to “lift Americans’ spirits and give them hope.”
What??? How agonizingly irresponsible, short-sighted, and childish a justification for spending taxpayers’ money like a drunken sailor. This would be like going nuts with your credit cards, overspending at every turn, if you were having a bad day. Lift spirits? The piper always needs to be paid, and this is one of the many reasons why our economy is in the royal dumper today. Bush was horrifically trashed for spending only a THIRD of what Obama is spending now on his inauguration bash. Can’t wait to see/cringe at the final bill.
So far, no change and no hope, just another slick elected politician who always sounds like he’s reading aloud from a motivational Hallmark card. But doesn’t he look cool in that suit? Wonder how much it cost…
