Frugal Café Superb Word of the Day: defalcate

Gotta Love It: Received this superb word this morning in my dictionary.com “Dr. Dictionary Word of the Day” daily e-newsletter:
Word of the Day for Tuesday, February 3, 2009
defalcate \di-FAL-keyt\, verb:
to steal or misuse money or property entrusted to one’s care
Fabulous word for the frugal conservative or moderate… and a trifle ironic, in light of two of Pres. Obama’s nominated cabinet members withdrawing themselves today from appointment consideration because of their discovered tax-payment avoidance problems (Tom Daschle [for Health and Human Services Secretary], for failing to report $15,000 in charitable donations, unreported car service and more than $80,000 in unreported income from consulting, and Nancy Killefer [for the newly created Chief Performance Officer], for a $900 lien in 2005 on her home and for not paying taxes on her nannies/household help).
It’s not just we, the common folk, who are struggling with money matters during these rough economic times.
