Weekday food jungle conquest: my two cartons of beautiful brown eggs
Lots of awesome bargains today at my local 99-Cent Only Store – cauliflower, 99 cents a head; packages of whole almonds, 39 cents for 1.5 oz; Valentine’s Day chocolates for 99 cents; a huge bag of fresh cilantro, 99 cents. Best deal of all was finding these Grade A, medium-size brown eggs for only 99 cents per dozen. The lot was pretty much picked over, but I found two cartons that didn’t have any cracked eggs. Will pop back tomorrow and hopefully, the inventory will have been replenished.
I don’t know if they’re available in your area, but it’s worth looking. Brown eggs don’t have any advantage health-wise or flavor-wise over white eggs, but I love looking at them. Their beautiful brown shells always make me smile a bit. As a cheap protein source for strained food budgets (in this case, each egg cost me 8.25 cents), eggs are unparalleled. And, since brown eggs are typically double or triple the cost of regular white eggs, this was an even sweeter conquest. High five!
