Tea, anyone? With lemon?

One of many tea party protests, 5,000 citizens, fed up with the spendthrift behavior in Washington, DC, attended this one in Cincinnati - March 2009

Protest rallies of tax-paying Americans are growing larger and louder, in the spirit of the Boston Tea Party two centuries ago, all aimed at the “let’s spend-spend-spend and tax-tax-tax and then, let’s bailout everything under the sun” of the Obama administration. It is invigorating, this justified outcry from US citizens. Regular folks like you and me, taking a vocal, public stance against the flagrant waste, over-spending, and folly of the Generational Theft Act of 2009 and other bills and proposed tax increases coming out of our nation’s capitol. Disgraceful of our elected officials, electrifying to see America not “taking it” anymore.

As much as the media has not wanted to report any of these protests (the LA Times, in its final gasps before it will ultimately croak or be bailed-out, ignored the huge protest that was right outside its building, feeling conservatives and their legitimate anger and concern with anything-porkulus or the Obama administration were, uh, not story-worthy), these tea party protests are getting far too big to keep blowing off. Even most of Phoenix’s local media ignored the protest outside Dobson High School when Obama was here in Arizona last month. JD Hayworth (former 6-term AZ Congressman) and Bruce Jacobs, joined by their talk radio station KFYI , were about the only ones reporting the porkulus protest in Arizona. Nothing, nothing at all was on the TV news that night, and believe, I looked. If I missed it, please send an email to Frugal Café and I’ll retract that statement. Had it not been for Michelle Malkin and other conservative writers, local talk radio hosts, and dedicated conservative bloggers, it would never have been reported anywhere in the mainstream, network television news shows. Read these posts of Michelle’s: No duh! White House “worried about bailout backlash” and Tea Party Update: Revolution Is Brewing; and a tea party information update: Tea Party progress report

Conservatives, as a rule, have a hard time being controversial. They’re not prone to scream based on knee-jerk reactions. So, the tea party concept has been “bubbling and brewing” for about two months, or a little less, now. It’s taken time, but golly, it’s becoming a force to be reckoned with, and it is starting to make Washington officials nervous (good).

Cincinnati had a protest rally that brought in 5,000 people, which I believe surpasses any of the crowds VP Joe Biden attracted during the presidential election. Click here for the report by RWNJ.org, as well as photos.

For more information on how you can get involved in a tea party protest in your area (trust in that the local media, and your local newspaper – if it hasn’t gone belly-up – won’t be reporting it), check out these links:

UPDATE: Transcript from Rush Limbaugh’s March 16, 2009 radio show about the Cincinnati Tea Party Protest:

RUSH: Have you seen the news of the tea party in Cincinnati over the weekend? Thousands of people showed up. These tea parties are blossoming and growing all over the fruited plain. People are fed up, and I’ll tell you what, it’s not about bonuses to AIG people. That’s not why these tea parties are taking place. These tea parties —God love you people doing them. These tea parties are taking place because people are tired of paying the freight for people who refuse to work, they’re tired of paying mortgages for people who are making no effort to pay them. They are tired of bailing out failed companies. They are tired of things like unions and card check being forced on small business.

These tea parties are a direct result of an outrage at this administration for trying to wipe out the fundamental building blocks of this nation’s founding. That’s what’s under assault, capitalism and this nation’s founding, and that’s what these tea parties are all about. They’re not happening because of bonuses to people that work at AIG. One hundred fifty tea parties have taken place or are planned across the fruited plain. Hubba, hubba.
