Cautionary Tale: ‘Prime Minister, You Have Run Out of Our Money’

“You cannot carry on forever, squeezing the productive bit of the economy in order to fund an unprecedented engorgement of the unproductive bit,” said Daniel Hannan MEP (Member of European Parliament) to British Prime Minister Brown yesterday. There was cautious applause in the chamber room as Hannan spoke. Brave words, noble words of support for his hurting nation.

A video is worth a thousand words. Watch the video below of Hannan several times.

Hannan, in a strong but controlled voice, eloquently tells the British Prime Minister that he is a reckless spendthrift, he has spent all the people’s money, that he has wantonly and willfully squandered the money of future generations of Britons on expensive socialist programs, and the nation has plunged into negative equity. Devastating debt. Devalued currency. Devalued nation.

When you feel compelled while listening, in your head, substitute Prime Minister Brown’s name with “President Obama.” Or “Congress.” Or both.

A cautionary tale of where we, the United States of America and all that our nation stands for in the world, are headed and endangered if Obama’s socialist agenda takes a chokehold on our nation.

“Do not repeat what Britain has done… please do not move towards a national health care system… Prevent it, resist it,” Hannan implored on Sean Hannity’s radio talk show today. “It’s like going back to the Iron Curtain times. You’re expected to stand in line and be grateful for whatever you get.” He said the UK’s socialized health care has delivered some of the worst health outcomes imaginable for the UK’s citizens, for a once-prosperous nation in the Western world.

Remember how Obama said solemnly in his press conference two days ago that no one had presented him with an alternative spending bill to his trillion-dollar, European-socialist, debt-to-our-grandchildren porkulus bill? To which members of the GOP said something like, “Hey, hold your horses there, pardner, we most certainly did!”

Well, pigs must be flying in Chicago, because our POTUS suddenly asked today to see the alternative plan. No promises that he will even open it, let alone read it, but a teeny effort to appear bi-partisan is happening.

Crumbs to appease the unwashed masses? Likely. But we gotta have a modicum of “hope and change” about now, or our heads will explode.

Update: House GOP leader John Boehner spearheaded a motion to freeze federal spending and remove all the wasteful 9,000 porkulus earmarks from the bill; the motion failed to pass in the house.

Read about it at Michelle Malkin’s blog: He asked for it. He got it. Also: House Republicans push for spending freeze; Update: Measure fails.
