I just stumbled on this sweet August 2008 think-piece about Sarah Palin by Mark Steyn. Mark is a conservative writer, cultural critic, and political humorist who frequently fills in for Rush Limbaugh’s radio show when “El Rushbo” takes off a few days; he also fills in for Hugh Hewitt. Canadian essayist Robert Fulford once said that Mark’s style of writing brings “to public affairs the dark comedy developed in the Theatre of the Absurd.”

Delightful short article written just before Sarah Palin gave her famous RNC speech, accepting the nomination for being John McCain’s vice president running mate:

Thank you for the smile, Mark. This piece was written before the media attacks and rabid dirt-digging shifted into high gear on Gov. Palin and her family during the presidential election. Pre-attack period vs. post-attack period. Like having a time machine.

It is even more meaningful for me today because just an hour previous, I read that Levi Johnston, Bristol Palin’s former boyfriend/fiancé and the father of her child, appeared on the Tyra Banks Show and told a tabloid-hungry audience details about his sex life with the governor’s teen daughter and that he believed that Sarah knew all along that he and Bristol were having sex. Crikey, what a jerk. His proof for such an outrageous statement? “Moms have a sense about these things” or some other lame-butt, low-IQ assessment of the super-powers of girlfriends’ mothers. Believe me, you nasty little cockroach, if Todd and Sarah Palin ever thought you were having premarital sex with their precious baby girl, you’d have known it, because… (fill in the blank here with some kind of non-permanent harm you’d think likely would have happened to the lad; use your theater of the mind while I get another cup of coffee).

What a piece of trash he’s become. The Palin family had no idea he was going on the talk show… hope they paid you plenty of bucks for your interview, Levi, because the hole you just dug for yourself is going to be a very lonely one. Wads of cash just isn’t the same as self-respect and family love and support, dude.

Said a Palin spokeswoman: “Bristol did not even know Levi was going on the show. We’re disappointed that Levi and his family, in a quest for fame, attention, and fortune, are engaging in flat-out lies, gross exaggeration, and even distortion of their relationship. Bristol’s focus will remain on raising Tripp, completing her education, and advocating abstinence. It is unfortunate that Levi finds it more appealing to exploit his previous relationship with Bristol than to contribute to the well-being of the child. …Bristol realizes now that she made a mistake in her relationship and is the one taking responsibility for their actions.”

So, Mark, you’ve helped me temper my rage and disappointment with this lovely valentine of an article. I really needed to read something about Sarah Palin that didn’t have the stench of scandal on it (when in the heck do the attacks stop for this magnificent woman and her family?) or POTUS Barack Obama’s sellout of America while he’s on his “Magical Mystery Apology Tour of EU and Turkey.”

The damn mainstream media and press are going wild with this Levi-Bristol sex story (yeah, it appeals to the lowest common denominator, like flies to manure), salivating all over it and paying much more attention to it than all the “you’ve got to be kidding” crap that Prez Obama is doing in Europe and Turkey against America with his 12 teleprompters and gargantuan staff of 500. Were there any countries Obama DIDN’T apologize to? Dangerous and anti-American… he’s setting us up for unfathomable disaster by constantly bashing and diminishing all the accomplishments of our nation and its people and dismantling our nation’s defense security. President Pander, President Rock Star, President Poop-Head. But the public and media spend more time and attention to Michelle Obama’s European wardrobe and the Levi Johnston “TV sex talk.”

If only Sarah and Bristol (who rightfully blasted Levi for his despicable, tawdry, neanderthal interview) could read Mark Steyn’s “heart” article. It might encourage and uplift them with the coping of the new embarrassing, negative press the family is yet again dealing with. And dealing with the violation of trust, which I’m sure is tearing poor Bristol into pieces.

And Levi? You’re a turd. A big, classless turd.
