What Does an Incognito Tea Party Crasher Look Like?

What does an incognito tea party crasher look like? Probably just like you and me. Or, like a fraudulent TV reporter.
Be wary, dear friends, if you’re going to a Tax Protest Tea Party tomorrow. A handful of wacko, socialism-embracing Obama-bots are salivating to do some “gotcha” Journalism 101 crud at a number of the tea party events tomorrow. Something like Ashton Kutcher’s old MTV show “Punk’d,” but the snotty-unfunny version.
Don’t let someone with fancy video equipment fool or convince you that he or she is with the local news team or radio station. Ask to see press credentials. Because otherwise, you may be sliced and diced into a nasty YouTube video or audio montage that is maliciously designed to show how stupid and hateful and RACIST conservatives are. If they start giggling or asking weird questions, they’ve given themselves away with their sophomoric delight at their own cleverness.
But don’t assume that all of them will be on giddy pins and needles about the naughty adventure of it all. Some are seriously out to get you. Not you, the person. You, the conservative, the racist, right-wing nut-job, the crazy bitter person who clings to Bibles and guns and the Constitution and won’t help little poor children get an education or food and supports money-grubbing big-business corporations and hates anything new and fresh… like socialism in America.
Don’t think you can “outsmart” them, because the magic of audio editing can make even a Rhodes scholar sound like a crack-addicted skid row bum. Yes, I know it’s hypocritical and loathsome for them to edit video in this way, but tell them that, and they’ll think you want to be BFF. Don’t let anyone bait you.
Had to stop reading the slimiest of Obama-bot lib sites, DailyKos, after just a few minutes because I really felt the need to take a shower to remove all the hate I felt pouring out. One person even posted that they could discuss their ideas freely on the site because, as one stated, he or she felt safe, because “doubt due to their mentality the teabaggers aren’t smart enough to come to dKos.“ < -- See my little red arrow right over there, pointing to the left? It’s pointing to the link to the DailyKos forum category “Planning Fun with Teabaggers!”
They sure think a lot of themselves in there. A lot of chest thumping, grandstanding, preening, swaggering, and so many are drooling over asking blatantly slanted questions that will hopefully bring about racist responses, or something that can be twisted into the illusion of a racist response. What’s with that crap? The Age of Hope and Change… sucks.
Entering that vile site is no indication of intelligence. A lot of dummies are in there, most of whom are still seething with rage about Bush. I warn you, it’s ugly in there. However, if you decide to go onto the site to investigate, I think you being able to leave the site without retching is an indication of inner strength and patriotic fortitude. I’m proud of you, you brave patriots.
Here is just a taste of their banter on how to be more like the vapid CBS news-diva Katie Couric (remember her ridiculous “jelly bean economy” and her biased editing of the Sarah Palin interview? Ah, good times…). They want to make conservatives look just as evil and ignorant as is humanly possible. I’ll bet they’ll ask 50 questions to get one “juicy one” that they can manipulate. A few DailyKos commenters weren’t bad, so I’ve included two of those down below (fairness and balance). They actually questioned the integrity of doing these crasher interviews and expressed interest in hearing what conservatives have to say about they protests. So, it appears that all liberals who worship Obama aren’t close-minded, vicious morons. Which is promising.
Then, we take any examples of racism, hatred, ignorance, and stupidity that we catch on camera and make a little movie out of it.
Question to ask: “President Obama’s Secretary of Defense is talking about radical changes in the Defense Department budget. How does your teabagging relate to that?”
That should prompt some wingnut response about Obama slashing the DoD budget. Then, the follow-up: “So, since you favor limiting the size of government, you are opposed to the Gates plan because it increases defense spending by four percent, right?” That should cause some stammering confusion.
Better yet, ask them to explain the Tea Tax… Or the Tea Act of 1773. What was it? When was it enacted? And what was it’s relevance to the Boston Tea Party? I’m betting 2/3 couldn’t answer those questions. I’m being extremely generous by assuming that 1/3 could. I think I just may survey some teabaggers during my lunch break tomorrow.

Be careful, these are paranoid and crazy people. I agree with other comments that you’re taking a risk. On the other hand…I’m really looking forward to seeing what you get.

One small voice of reason amongst the howling of the jackals:
I hate to be a wet blanket, but parts of this are frankly what I hate about traditional media and what I think new media should do better.
It is your responsibility as a journalist (and yes I consider bloggers to be journalists)to portray all of what you record. The cherrypicking that always occurs is almost neccessary to get whatever you do down to a reasonable length, but to deliberately hide what you disagree with is a mistake. You have to, at the very least, make all the interviews readiliy availible, if not in the actual video. That way people will recognize that while many Republicans are racist, stupid idiots, there are some who legitimately are intelligent and just have a philisophical disagreement.
Another voice of reason:
Entrapment will just result in even more paranoia and feed into their belief in a biased liberal media. On the other hand, it’s completely fair to ask a teabagger something like “in your opinion, what should the government be doing to deal with the economic crisis?” or “what do you think is the fairest way to distribute the tax burden?” Then, after they’ve offered their solution(s), follow up questions can be asked to clarify what they mean or point out a specific example or counter example for them to react to.
Much less confrontational that way. Plus, I would honestly like to hear them answer fair questions like this.
Have a great time at the tea party of your state tomorrow, dear friends. And don’t let the crashers get you down. Just be observant, much like you would be if you were walking in a strange neighborhood. Smell the flowers, enjoy the sun on your skin, but keep alert to protecting your back. Bring a friend or two with you as an added precaution (more fun that way, too). Bring a camera and take lots of pictures, proof that the tea party event happened so that the MSM can’t deny it (but they will, anyway).
And, just in case you don’t know anything about the history of the Boston Tea Party (and I know most of you do, so please don’t think I’m insulting you) and how this Tax Protest Tea Party pays it homage, be sure to spend 15 minutes tonight or tomorrow morning researching it before leaving for the tea party. ‘Cuz you just don’t know who will be sticking a microphone in front of your face once you’re there.
And liberal crazies who worship The One look a lot like normal people.
