Hollywood Angst: Country Music’s Toby Keith Claims Celebrities Fear Peer Backlash for Support of Military

Hollywood, California, where much of the entertainment industry fears voicing support of our military heroes
Look at how many of them recently dog-piled with gleeful scorn on conservative beauty queen Carrie Prejean for her Miss USA man-woman marriage opinion (which is still the law in 46 states), while millions of regular Americans sang her praises for being honest with a scorching “hot potato” question. Actress Angie Harmon publicly defended her, but she was one of the few in Hollywood who did.
However, so many inexplicably applauded and fawned over that potty-mouth bully Perez Hilton, like he was a new-age Oscar Wilde, for attacking Prejean with profanities on his celebrity gossip blog.
Why? He did nothing remarkable or laudable. He’s a vicious creep with a sophomoric love affair with the F-word.
His attack was to shock and to showcase himself as the “bad gay” and hopefully advance his pitiable career. Hilton doesn’t care that his hate-filled attacks damaged the advances of the same-sex marriage cause. Gays across America (outside of So Cal, that is) are still angry and embarrassed about his profane, loutish behavior.
Hilton received a few days’ worth of attention for his dirty diatribe, and in the intoxicating, scorching light of new-found-but-short-lived fame, he’s decided to strike again while he’s still being Googled. He’s releasing a recording of a song that he (I think) wrote and sung. Oh, joy. It’s about his male organ. Bet he’s been sitting on that irrelevant piece of crap for a long time (no pun intended). Never let a crisis go to waste, or in this case, a media-whore moment. After 12-year-old boys buy the CD and bootleg it, Hilton will soon drift back to where he was before becoming a public misogynist: an angry, nasty gay man with a lot of unhappiness in his life.
Hollywood’s more radically liberal celebrities embraced him while tearing down a young Christian woman who expressed her opinion frankly and politely. Hilton is allowed freedom of speech, but Prejean is not. A liberal’s double-standard.
Writer Morgan Warstler of Big Hollywood has a theory about why Hollywood’s most successful have such hatred of conservative America, or at a minimum, conservative values. He wrote an insightful and hilarious article in January 2009, titled “The Janeane Garofalo Tax Credit.” It offers a unique explanation as to why rich liberals are liberals. Warstler proposes a Celebrity Windfall Tax. You must read his whole brilliant piece, but here’s its four-word summation: TOO.MUCH.POODLE.GUILT.
In a phony world filled with countless pampered, bitter, overpaid brats with superficial contributions to offer society, a great many of those who enter the entertainment field are often ill-prepared to do anything that actually requires good old-fashioned American thinking or provides any life-relevant skills. But, ignorant as many of them are, they are still permitted to say any stupid thing they want (with some exceptions).
That’s the sheer beauty of our Constitution.
The Constitution guarantees rights and freedoms to all Americans, including those who spit on those rights. And this is one of the reasons our nation is so great. America is still the shining gem of freedoms that are the envy of the world. We are allowed to freely disagree. With each other. With our government. They can’t do that in Venezuela, Sean Penn. They can’t do that in Cuba, Janeane Garofalo.
So, these emotion-gushing, extremist liberals don’t support the US military? Of course they don’t. They’re angry at America. Our military IS America.
Many of them are stuck in perpetual tantrums, kicking and sneering and spewing, despising our nation’s uniqueness, preferring to embrace cruel third-world dictators, socialism, and flawed ideas that don’t work without government intervention. This is much like Obama’s regrettable European “Magical Mystery Apology Tour.”
But, why are they so angry? Most of them are well off or are millionaires, so it’s not lack of money. Most see injustice in the world, or poverty, or oppression… but, rather than focus and try to resolve it, they attack America for “letting it happen.” Say what? Americans, overwhelmingly conservatives, donate more money and volunteer more free time to charities and worthy causes than any other nation, than any other group of people. We’re guaranteed the pursuit of happiness in America, but we aren’t guaranteed the outcome of that pursuit. That’s up to us. Not the government. And not subject to Hollywood’s critical approval.
It must be that “poodle guilt,” after all.
Here’s an excerpt of an interview with country music’s Toby Keith, a Democrat, and his take on Hollywood’s silence about military support:

Toby Keith: Many in Hollywood Fear Public Show of Support for Military
Thursday, April 23, 2009
By Nicholas Ballasy, Video Reporter(CNSNews.com) – Country music star Toby Keith said he would not run for public office because being a politician involves saying one thing to one person and another thing to another person and he cannot tolerate that duplicity. He also said there are a lot of pro-military people in Hollywood who keep their patriotism hidden for political and social reasons.
“I couldn’t do all the lies” to run for public office, Keith told the audience at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. “I couldn’t shake your hand and walk over there five feet and say something bad about you — so to me, that’s all politics are.”
“Politicians, they kill me,” he said, adding that being a politician would mean having to “get along” with too many people and “I’m not political, so I couldn’t do that.”
[...]
Keith, a long-time supporter of the United Service Organizations (USO) also said “the right bashes Hollywood,” but there are a lot of people in Hollywood who say they support the troops yet cannot say so publicly.
Is he right? Are there droves of silent celebrities in Hollywood—Republicans, Democrats, Libertarians, and Independents—who do support our troops, but keep their mouths buttoned, fearing the vicious backlash of their radical liberal peers?
Not all do. Clint Eastwood, Ted Nugent, Chuck Norris, and Bruce Willis don’t hide their conservative values and patriotism. Steven Crowder is making a name for himself as one of the few conservative comedians who is taking a comedic stance against anti-American values. If more “closet conservatives” or “pro-military liberals” bravely spoke against the Baldwins and Sarandons and Penns and O’Donnells and Hiltons and Garofalos of the industry, and stop letting the most extreme liberal bullies zealously attack anyone with a different opinion, think of the shift that would occur. Silence is acceptance. Don’t be silent.
Our military is the finest in the world. Our troops defend the freedoms of many people, while always knowing that death could be the ultimate sacrifice. Without our military, I shudder to think how our enemies could have demolished us years ago. These men and women are heroes, and each and every one deserves our respect, admiration, and gratitude. It’s a tragedy that Hollywood just doesn’t get it.

Love your post.
John Wayne, Jimmy Stewart, Charlton Heston, Audey Murphy, and many others have made their living making movies and yet respected and supported our military men and women.
Bob Hope,…how many times did he give our troops in active war zones a break from the horrors of war ?
These pukes in Hollyweird should keep their mouth shut, and go to their parties and award ceremonies and leave the American People ALONE.
I’m sick of them spewing anti-American garbage on our airwaves.
If they don’t like this country they can leave anytime.
Wow, AFNET, you reminded me of so many I didn’t give tribute to, although sadly, they’re all no longer with us. John Wayne was amazing in his unabashed, loudly professed love of America.
God bless Bob Hope… he was such a national treasure and such a supporter of our troops. I think professional wrestlers (WWF) and the country music industry are about the only groups of entertainers, outside of the USO, who have taken up Bob’s torch to keep morale up for our deployed troops. We need another Bob Hope.
John Wayne couldn’t serve due to physical issues.
Audie Murphy was decorated for his duty in the Army.
Jimmy Stewart flew bombers for the Army/Air Force.
Henry Fonda served our country. Not Jane !
Bob Hope orchestrated the USO tours, and recruited many performers over the years, many good looking women, and would say, here’s what your fighting for boys.
Ann Margaret, Cyd Charise, Raquel Welch, Marilyn Monroe, miss Americas thru the years were willing to put up with marginal accommodations and non-hollywood pampering to give the troops a break. Patriots all.
These people will go down as great Americans for giving a diversion from the mud and dirt and death that the troops witnessed sometimes on a daily basis.
Thought-provoking post, well done. Every day, I come to your blog and it is so unique and on the money. Thanks for writing this… some of my best friends are in the military and it is horrible how those rich idiots in Hollywood think they have all the answers. They would be the first to cry and run if a terrorist attck hit our country. Our military are flesh and blood and needs patriotic support, not bashing and not silence. I’m sick of the headlines covering Lindsey Lohan’s drug problems or Sean Penn admiring a dictator. I want America to be America again.
If Toby Kieth is such an all American why isn’t in uniform fighting in Iraq? Another chicken war hawk only man enough to sit in the rear like a classic REMF and attack a women for speaking her mind.
