Starting to gear down for the weekend, and I have these cool odds and ends of commentaries and articles I’ve accumulated this week, but couldn’t use on the blog through the week. Some are funny, some are thought-provoking… take your pick.
Today, a resolution was filed in the NC General Assembly entitled, “A Joint Resolution Rejecting Unfair Attacks And Expressing Pride In The United States Of America.” The first entry of the resolution: “Whereas, the United States of America has been unfairly attacked and pilloried at recent international forums as a cause of many of the world’s problems; and…” Yes, North Carolina is taking action against President Obama… GUTSY! Patriotic Bob Basso, who posts videos under the name funbobbasso on YouTube, has created videos in which he portrays Thomas Paine, author of the “Common Sense” pamphlet that made the case for independence during the American Revolution. He has created two highly successful “We The People” YouTube videos urging Americans to stand up against Congress. Obama isn’t happy with Bob’s mini films, reportedly has summoned him to the White House. I’ll keep be keeping an eye on this… go to the site for the whole story.

New York Governor Paterson really screwed up. He has secretly settled a suit to the tune of $300,000 for firing a white photographer to hire a black photographer… but, where’s the outrage? Why isn’t this anywhere in the mainstream media?

Opening paragraph: Former USA Today White House correspondent Richard Benedetto offered strong words for his old colleagues at Politico.com. The headline was “Watchdogs are heeling for Obama.” Benedetto feels the “mainstream news media” have been burnishing his image and offering few challenges, that they seem “mesmerized by the glamour” of Obama…

I really enjoyed perusing this nostalgic webpage on the Woman’s Day website. It shows Woman’s Day magazine ads for then-high-tech home appliances that were expensive, time-saving, cutting-edge items. It shows what our moms or grandmas drooled over when they were newlyweds. Waffle Baker, Regina Electric Broom, Kitchen Aid, Sony… also a few ahead-of-their-time corded telephones with TV sets attached. Fascinating and humbling advertisements from decades gone by. We’ve come such a long way in efficiency and technology. And, we really do have TOO much stuff…
