French President Sarkozy and Pres. Obama at European G20 summit, April 2009

French Pres. Sarkozy and Pres. Obama at European G20 summit, April 2009

Irony is usually found only in literature, such as in the short stories of O. Henry or the fiction of Anton Chekov.

Pres. Obama has waxed philosophically about France. He embraces the economic structure and ideology of European socialist countries that are failing, while, at every opportunity, trash-talking America to other nations. The irony is that, while Obama wants to remake America so that it is more like France, France is now trying to be more like America.

Even the French hate what’s happened to France.

It’s one thing to appreciate the sophistication and delight of French culture and cuisine, Mr. President, but it’s something altogether different to LIVE in France.

High taxation, socialist ideology, mammoth government, high unemployment, government overspending (almost 50 percent of its GDP), political infighting… what’s the deal, Obama?

Why can’t you be compelled to remake America into a nation whose economic and social philosophies and policies actually work? One that embraces liberty, individualism, optimism, spirit, hope, free market principles, smaller (until recently) government, and has a robust (until recently) economy? Like… oh, say, AMERICA?

Veronique de Rugy: Obama’s French Toast: Just Say “Non”

Obama, stop being a starry-eyed Francophile. Even the French are trying to tell you not to ruin America. You are more than welcomed to love what France has to offer culturally and artistically, but don’t turn America into France.

America is just fine being America.

America, as is, with all her flaws and shortcomings and greatness and exceptionalism, has been more than good enough for countless American heroes and patriots—many of whom have given their lives willingly to defend her.

Heroes and patriots who love America like Thomas Jefferson, George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, James Madison, John Adams, Crispus Attucks, Abraham Lincoln, Davy Crockett, Daniel Boone, Thomas Paine, John Hancock, and Nathan Hale… heroes and patriots like Patrick Henry, Samuel Johnson, James Otis, Alvin York, Jacob Wilson Parrot, Mary Edwards Walker, Audie Murphy, Clara Barton, Dwight D. Eisenhower… those who have embraced her like Jessica Lynch, Stephen Hopkins, Ceasar Rodney, George Patton, John F. Kennedy, Ronald Reagan, John Hope Franklin, Theodore Roosevelt, Glenn Miller, Chuck Norris, Henry Rollins, John Wayne, Bob Hope, Red Skelton, James Stewart, Clint Eastwood, Lee Marvin, Tom Selleck, Ron Silver, Ted Nugent, and Walt Disney… and still others like Thomas Edison, Henry Ford, Oliver North, Mark Levin, Lee Greenwood, Martina McBride, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck, Ann Coulter, Fred Thompson, Thomas Sowell, Norman Vincent Peale, Billy Graham, Joe Arpaio, Jack Kemp, Andrew McCarthy, Richard Mack, Bobby Jindal, Sarah Palin, George Bush, John McCain, and millions upon millions more… then, sacre bleu! America should be good enough for you, sir.

How can you love America, Mr. President, as you say, when you castigate her, tell her enemies that she’s arrogant and selfish and a disappointment, agree with those ruthless dictators who are her enemies when they deride her? How can you love America when you don’t support and praise her, demonstrate that you understand all that she is to so many?

Instead of remaking our rare jewel into France (or Cuba, or Venezuela, or Russia, or Sweden, or China), why don’t you just order some fresh arugula with a piquant vinaigrette dressing and a nice bottle of Pinot noir? That would be a great deal less trouble and a lot less statist.

In other words, knock it off. Most Americans don’t want to be like France. And for those who do, no one is stopping anyone from relocating.

And, for good measure, you can always throw in a big steaming plate of Escargots de Bourgogne. I just love those garlic-buttered snails… but, nowhere near as much as I love America.

God bless America for all that she encourages and inspires… for all that she challenges us to be. Better tomorrow than we are today. Better today than we were yesterday.

She isn’t France. Nor do we want her to be.

Excellent piece, however I would disagree with you on one item.

    You called the POTUS “sir”.

Notice the Marine, at the bottom of the stairs on Marine 1, that is duty bound to salute the Commander in Chief.
I contend that is regulation and not respect.

Witness the fact that Obama never looks the Marine in the eyes when returning the salute, merely makes a half-assed gesture.

Ronald Reagan, and the George Bushes showed much more respect to our military personnel.

It may sound trivial, but it works on me. This guy is a menace to America.

Thanks for the tip. I’ve not ever noticed that before, AFVET. And my background with military nuances is virtually non-existent. I’ll look for it when Obama is faced with saluting our military from now on… good eye!

And as far as the “sir” goes, it wasn’t heartfelt. It was more sarcastic than anything else. I can only call him a pinhead so often before it loses its effectiveness.

Oh, and FYI: based on the discussion you and I had last week, I was sure to include the heroes you brought up that I had not mentioned in a previous post. Thanks for you input. :)

I wouldn’t be surprised to see BO hold out his hand and have the Marine kiss his ring.

I am sick of this narcissistic monster.

I can barely stand to hear him speak.

    • AFVET says:

Your list of Patriots through the years was fantastic.

Just before the Alamo, Davy Crockett stood before congress trying to get them to help the volunteers willing to stand up against the Mexicans.

      Congress said NO.

Davy Crockett told congress “you go to hell, I’m going to the Alamo”.

      58,000,000 Americans voted against BO.

We can stop this if we stay focused and organized.

      • AFVET says:

        Misquote, sorry

“Davy told congress,”you go to hell, I’m going to Texas”.

        Fixed it.

Not meaning to nitpick, dear friend, but you need to add another few zeroes to your figure. :)

I concur totally with our need, as conservative American patriots, to unite and defeat the statists. 2010 will be crucial for nationwide elections.

I don’t think San Francisco will ever get rid of Nancy Pelosi, so Congress must have a Republican majority to neuter her. If we can get a strong GOP candidate (and many names are floating around), I think Obama having just one term is very likely.

He can’t go a week without “stepping in it,” and we’re on what, the 105th day? Imagine what unbelievable gaffes he will commit in the next month… or next year.

Patience, my friend, let not your heart be troubled. You and I are in the majority. More Americans are opening their eyes to this administration every day. And I don’t think any of them want America to become like France, either.

We may not be able to stop his socialist agenda, but we most certainly can slow it down.

        • AFVET says:

Exactly, 2010 will tell us where we are.

          0000’s who cares about 000’s

Thanks for pointing that out, I will watch that in the future.

We don’t want to skew the polls now do we?

LOL – you’re a hoot. Your figure is now fixed. Forgot that I could edit… I’m at work right now and trying to multi-task. Not very well, though, I must say.

Must be-bop away for a while to earn the bacon… you have a fabulous day, dear friend.
