Terrific, love-it essay by Leigh Scott posted on Big Hollywood, Conservatives Need to Fire the Marketing Department. I’ve been wondering what is wrong with the RNC for the last few months. Why have they not been jumping like yappy puppies on a new squeeze toy whenever Obama missteps, whenever Joe Biden lets rip another I-can’t-believe-he-said-that gaffe? How many late night talk show hosts criticized Obama for the NYC flyover? Or the released CIA memos? Or the expensive dinners he and Michelle have that are showcased on CNN? These are funny, ready-to-be-mocked Obama blunders. So why aren’t more conservative sources doing just that?

Conservatives are cool and funny (as witnessed in the above videos), but someone decided that only LIBERALS get to beat up CONSERVATIVES and they are the “party of youth”? Obama can hug dictators and raise taxes sky high and bash America to the globe without much more than conservative grumbling? Obama is cool for doing nothing? It’s all in the marketing. Whoever is Obama’s marketing guy is running circles around us.

Enough of this malarkey. As Scott addresses, we need to be more aggressive like Hollywood is during the summer blockbuster season. We need to fire our marketing department and start punching back, getting the word out that Obama is an empty suit and that tired old socialism sucks, whereas conservatism is comprised of modern-day rebels and is based on freedom, WHICH IS COOL:

All we need to do is refine and change our marketing. We know the critics (which in our industry is the mainstream media) are going to savage us, but who cares? How many summer blockbusters that make hundreds of millions of dollars get stellar reviews from the New York Times?

Conservatism is all about freedom. That’s the sales pitch. Conservatives endorse freedom. We are the modern day rebels. We are the punk rockers of politics. We like to work hard and party harder. The government is “The Man.” “The Man” tries to hold you down. Anybody who wants the “safety net” of cradle to the grave government support should be ridiculed. And rightfully so.

…Yet, we allow the media to frame the discussions and the debates. Why, for example, did most of our pundits take the bait on the Perez Hilton thing and let the media frame the arguments as an example of the gay marriage issue being debated in the public forum? That incident was about how the left stifles free speech. It was about how women are second-class citizens in the Democratic party. Every discussion of Ms. California should have been an opportunity to bring up the media’s treatment of Sarah Palin and Hillary Clinton. But it wasn’t. Instead, we allowed the Democrats to cut our trailer and replace the robot on the key art with a photo of Shia LaBeouf.
