Zachary Quinto as Spock in new Star Trek movie
Yes, I’m a bit of a “Trekkie.” And Mr. Spock is my favorite character from the original series.
Even though I’ve not yet seen it, I’ve thought the casting of Zachary Quinto as Spock was brilliant. I have loved to hate him as the evil Sylar on Heroes for several seasons now. Not just ANYONE can replace my favorite Vulcan. Quinto is a rising star, no doubts about that. Once the queues die down, we’ll take the family’s quarterly movie-going budget and “trek” on over to see it. The story looks to be compelling (I’m persnickety about any film, even a popular blockbuster, having a good story).
So, here’s my wincing moment from NewsBusters: NBC and Newsweek Liken Obama to Spock: Both Victims of Prejudice.
Swell. Just peachy-keen swell.
Obama is NOT Spock, not now, not ever… not even in an alternate universe. Spock is ultra-logical, does not flip-flop on his word, and would take security secrets of the starship Enterprise to his grave (he would NEVER release classified Star Fleet documents to the Romulans). Spock never compromises his integrity. He would never laugh out loud at a joke mocking the painful death of another Vulcan or human. But then, to be fair to Obama’s loutish blunder at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, Spock never laughs.
Why is Barack Obama in every single thing I read, see, taste, hear, or smell anymore? It’s becoming even more overbearing and obnoxious than those Carrot Top TV ads for a cell phone company a few years back. Or, Paris Hilton last year. Obama’s everywhere… all the time… and now he’s being compared to Spock? Urggghhh.
The liberal media didn’t do this much puff-piece sycophant junk when Clinton was in office, and they never did anything like this with GWB. Can you imagine if anyone had the temerity to compare Bush to, say, Indiana Jones? Ha!
But then, the talented Chris Muir made me grin broadly with his perfect Day by Day cartoon, helping me forget the Spock/BHO comparison; thanks, Chris, I needed this to tickle my funny bone: Star Trek Reloaded. Thumbs up on this one, Chris.
“Star Trek,” the 11th movie based on the ’60s TV series, took in $31 million on its U.S. opening day, one of Paramount’s biggest openings ever, analysts said.
Only “Iron Man,” which grossed $38.7 million in its 2008 opening, has done better for Paramount Pictures, Variety reported Saturday. The “Star Trek” total included $7 million in tickets for previews Thursday evening.
The movie opened at 3,849 North American theaters Friday.
Here’s a SlashFilm post from 2007 about Quinto being cast as Spock. I noticed at the bottom of the entry that the movie was suppose to be launched last Christmas… I didn’t know it was delayed. Probably was a good thing, too, because at Christmas, we were more financially hindered than we are now. I’m quite excited to see it. And I won’t be comparing Spock to Obama, you can take THAT to the bank.
