The story reported about Barack Obama’s request for the canceling of travel bookings at Normandy on the D-Day 65th anniversary has been retracted by the original writer. I still respect the journalistic integrity of the site and the author John Romano. In my experience, few non-conservative websites and blogs ever apologize, acknowledge, or offer retractions for errors when they are discovered (please, I would love to be proved wrong, so name a few… Huffington Post? No way.). Mistakes happen with sources and research. We’re all human.
To Frugal Café readers who were concerned about the banning of tourists in Normandy on June 6, it now appears that all is well, and if you’re planning to attend the festivities for the 65th anniversary, you should have a wonderful time. If any information should change, it will be reported here.

Correction by John Romano at Big Hollywood:
UPDATE and CORRECTION: Barack Obama deciding to come to Normandy at the last minute, after his return from Egypt, has forced public tour companies to cancel their bookings for June 6th without warning. My original source blamed this on the US State Department when in fact it was the French government itself that made this decision.
I have learned from a follow-up source, that while it is unprecedented for the late notice, this would have most likely been the protocol in any case.
A bit less scandalous than first reported.

Thanks for posting this retraction. Alot of websites haven’t explained, but your site always seems to try to be fair. it sounded like somthing Obama would do, so i can see how the mistake was made. a thumbs up on doing it.
