House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said last week that she was misled by the CIA about the use of enhanced interrogation techniques. “Misled” is the word CNN is using… I believe what Pelosi actually said was that the CIA was a bunch of heartless, thieving, contemptible, nasty liars who should die slow, agonizing deaths along side George W. Bush.

Or something close to that.

And then, promptly forgetting her insults because they flew out of her mouth the day before, Pelosi commended the security agency for the stellar job it is doing. And they should all do brunch together sometime…

What’s not to loath? With her stammering, ever-changing accusations against the CIA and the Bush administration, coupled with her disjointed, spluttery performances in press conferences and her pitiful, weird “crab walking” afterward to avoid talking with reporters, Pelosi’s competence and honesty in the eyes of the American public has plummeted.

Heck, the approval rating for the hapless Sanjaya Malakar during Season 6 of American Idol was higher than Pelosi’s. You remember him? He was that crazy, nice-looking 17-year-old kid who won the hearts of America’s pre-teen girls, but had such a flawed singing voice that he aroused the ire of anyone else with a television set.

WASHINGTON (CNN) — As Nancy Pelosi continues to face a firestorm over what she may have known about aggressive government interrogation techniques, and when, a new survey has more unpleasant news for the House Speaker.

Nearly half of all Americans — 48 percent — disapprove of how the California Democrat is handling her job as Speaker of the House in a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll released Monday, while 39 percent approve of her performance.

That rating makes her less popular than other members of her party — congressional Democrats drew a 51 percent approval rating in last month’s CNN/ORC survey — and roughly in line with the congressional GOP, which drew positive ratings in April from just 39 percent of those polled.

That puts her approval rating at roughly the levels Newt Gingrich had in his first year as Speaker of the House.

The CIA’s approval rating? A whopping 63%, according to Rassmussen.

Nan, American Idol judge Simon Cowell would appraise your performance as the absolute worse, most excruciating he has ever seen. A painful, unmitigated train wreck. Randy Jackson would agree with Simon and add, “Dawg, I’m just not feelin’ it.” And Paula Abdul and Kara DioGuardi would say something positive and vapid to keep you from feeling like a total worm. Maybe compliment your shoes.

Resign from your post while you still have a shred of dignity and before your party is compelled to grab the wooden vaudeville hook and yank you out of there. You’ve embarrassed them, the nation, and yourself. America is about to “vote you out” and keep the CIA and keep Sanjaya.

Stop blaming Bush for your mess, Nancy, and don’t forget to return the jet.
