“I Left My Wallet… in San Francisco”: Huge Gov’t Salaries in “City of Pelosi” Adds to California’s Disastrous Debt

Why is it that the state of California is always in such a world of hurt financially? Why do they always need such gargantuan bailouts? Why they are running billions of dollars in the red? Why are they overtaxing their citizens?
You never hear about Alaska needing government bailout after bailout after bailout. Sounds like that state’s governor is keeping an eye on the money, being responsible with citizens’ taxes. Staying within budget. Kudos to the no-nonsense savvy and frugality of Gov. Sarah Palin… she signed a number of bills this week to extend the state of Alaska’s savings: Alaska Governor Sarah Palin’s Accomplishments: AK Gov Sarah Palin Signs Six Appropriations Bills, Extends Life of State’s Savings
But California… yikes, what a nightmare that is compared to Alaska. Not doing such a bang-up good job in trimming excess, limiting welfare and other liberal handouts. Terrible, actually. California isn’t alone in the spotlight of fiscal disaster in the country, but it’s certainly the spendthrift media whore as of late.
Here’s the dirty little secret: Bloated California government employees’ salaries add to the state’s fiscal irresponsibility… thanks largely to the unions and the universities.
What in the heck is a “special nurse” and why does the state of California pay that “special nurse” in San Francisco $350,000 a year?
Bet you’re not earning anything remotely close to these 2007 San Francisco government salaries (assuming you still have a job and haven’t been laid off, of course):

Outrageous and irresponsible.
Approval numbers also keep dropping for San Francisco’s Nancy “Liar of the House” Pelosi. From Michelle Malkin: Queen Nancy scoffs at her plummeting poll numbers
From Teh Resistance Blog: Public Employee Unions Are a Gun Pointed at the Taxpayer’s Head:
In tax year 2007, the State of California had more than 38,000 full-time employees with total pay over $100,000. More than 100 state workers earned more than $100,000 just in overtime pay.
University employees in California also bring home gigantic salaries; the Sacramento Bee has a salary break-down:
Sacramento Bee: Highest-paid University of California employees
Do these huge salaries make any sense when the country’s economy is tanking and the state of California is nearly bankrupt? Why hasn’t Gov. Schwarzenegger slashed these state salaries to realistic levels, like cut them by half or two-thirds? He’s left them untouched (cough *unions* cough), but will be eliminating thousands of firemen, police, and teacher jobs instead.. unjustified scare tactics. Shame on you, Gov. Schwarzenegger.
California citizens, you need to start taking action and let your state officials know you won’t tolerate this liberal spendthrift party to continue. Stop letting a small group of gay liberal activists and bubble-headed Hollywood elitists keep thrusting Proposition 8 into the national media. Enough already with Prop 8. Redirect your energies, because your state has far graver economic problems right now that you need to do something about it before it’s too late.

Be sure to read all the comments on Michelle Malkin’s blog… time to start taking action, Californians.
And the millions upon millions of dollars that the state of California GIVES to illegal aliens (there are approximately 3 million illegals in CA alone), using taxpayers’ money, further explains the financial disaster of the Golden State.

In excess of $300,000 a year for doing a nurse’s job? My God, where do I sign up?
I am an RN, and make my measly 55K a year – apparently I am not applying for work in the right places!
What eaxctly, is a “special nurse”? Suspect the answer is a synonym for yet another greedy bureaucrat with entitlement synndrome.
BTW, I respect the job our police and firemen do, but why is a sergeant making in excess of $200,000 annually? When he retires, he’ll get what, maybe 75% of that amount? No wonder the system is collapsing. This is unsustainable.
