When my children were younger, many of their friends were paid money for getting good grades in school… a dollar for a C, two dollars for a B, five dollars for an A.

My children, both excellent students, thought I should give them money, too, for their grades. As I explained to them, we don’t pay people in our family for doing what they’re suppose to be doing. That was just part of being a hardworking member of our family. I expected them to work hard in school to better themselves. Good grades and mastering their classes, acquiring knowledge, doing their best, were the true rewards, not a few dollars. It took a bit, but they understood, and now, as older teens, have told me that the kids who were paid money never really earned good grades consistently in the first place.

Guess the money paid to the kids was more of a bribe than a reward, a desperate attempt by the parents for their children to apply themselves and not fritter away their study time. And it didn’t work all that well.

Many liberals think the same of conservatives. Why don’t you just give people stuff? Why do they have to struggle and work so hard? Why are you so mean? This is particularly true of entitlement programs for minorities that the Democrat party started 40-plus years ago. Why do we still have these programs? Why do people still depend on them? Why haven’t more people in America pulled themselves up by their boot straps, worked their butts off, to achieve their dreams? Why are so many still on welfare and socialist programs? Why are so many still being like children, like victims, and when faced with anyone who disagrees with them, lash out with such blind hatred and out-of-control rage like a 13-year-old having a teen-angst tantrum?

Because their incentive, their otherwise normal growth away from the narcissistic “id-monster, self-gratification inclinations” of youth, their natural maturation into adulthood have all been stunted or killed. Killed by a soft tyranny, killed by “kindness.”
