Obama’s Cairo Speech: Revises & Rewrites Muslim History… AGAIN

Posted By Vicki McClure Davidson on June 10, 2009

crescent-star-islamObama’s speech writers must be having a pretty good laugh right now. Let’s make it sound good, sound pretty, sound plausible. Americans are stupid, they’ll never question anything Obama says at Cairo… Katie Couric at CBS will gobble it up…

Hmm… so what to fabricate today? How about that Saudi Arabia invented rocky road ice cream? Or, maybe that Venezuelans invented the cotton gin? Wait, even better — Fidel Castro was the creative genius behind Big Bird and Elmo on “Sesame Street”!

Don’t think it can’t happen? It IS happening.

Ed Morrissey at Hot Air has thoroughly analyzed Obama’s recent Cairo speech. Talk about fabricating the inventions and events of Muslim history. Someone’s nose on Obama’s writing staff must have grown three feet by now.

Excellent job, Ed. Too bad the big-money news-reporting earners at CNN, CBS, NBC, PBS, and ABC (and what in the heck happened to FOX’s researchers?) all dropped the fact-checking ball. But that’s typical. If Obama says it, it must be so…

Also, worth reading is Insult Islam? No. Insult History? Yes., at Black Informant. This writer also exposes the errors/fabrications of Muslim history and inventions that Obama covered in his Cairo speech.

From Morrissey:

In his haste to butter up the Egyptians and the wider Muslim audience, Obama gave the Islamic world credit for an invention for which they don’t even get runner-up status:

[From Obama's speech] As a student of history, I also know civilization’s debt to Islam. It was Islam – at places like Al-Azhar University – that carried the light of learning through so many centuries, paving the way for Europe’s Renaissance and Enlightenment. It was innovation in Muslim communities that developed the order of algebra; our magnetic compass and tools of navigation; our mastery of pens and printing; our understanding of how disease spreads and how it can be healed. [end of speech cut]

I’ll skip the vacuous but ambiguous credit Obama gives Al-Azhar for the Renaissance and Enlightment; the Irish will have some complaints about the former, and the rest of Europe over the latter. Specifically, though, Muslims didn’t invent the magnetic compass. Credit for that usually goes to the Chinese, who experimented with needles and lodestones as far back as the second century BC. They built a complete compass by the early 12th century, and eventually Marco Polo would bring one back on his travels.

In fact, the Muslims didn’t even come in second. Europe developed the magnetic compass at the end of the 12th century, while the Arabic compass would come decades later.

Doesn’t the White House do research and fact-checking on Obama’s speeches? No, of course not. If they don’t do it for their economic policies, why bother to do it for foreign panderfests?

Here are two more cuts from Obama’s speech, via LA Times:

…He thrilled them with a recitation of Muslim countries’ contributions to world civilization — algebra, the compass, pens and printing, medical treatment of disease, architecture, poetry, calligraphy, music.

It was innovation in Muslim communities that developed the order of algebra; our magnetic compass and tools of navigation; our mastery of pens and printing; our understanding of how disease spreads and how it can be healed.

Wrong and wrong again, Obama. From Morrissey:

“Mastery of pens” might be true, although pens themselves certainly came long before Islam — about 5,000 years before for the cruder reed pens, and 1,000 years before for quills. Arabic calligraphers created marvelous manuscripts, but then again, so did Christian monks, who began that work before Mohammed ever appeared on the scene, and pens and books predate both the Christian and Islamic period. In fact, the Christian monks spent their time copying the books of ancient Greece and Rome.

Printing, however, is another matter altogether. The Chinese developed block printing, which Marco Polo brought back on his travels. The Koreans invented movable type in the 13th century, using metal type a century later. Europe caught up in the 15th century. The Islamic states didn’t have anything to do with the development of printing, which makes this particular claim completely baffling.

Oddly, the print media never batted an eyelash about Obama’s version of history.

Not a peep from any of the Obama-adoring mainstream media. Maybe this is why CBS Evening News anchor Katie Couric’s numbers are in the commode. Sadly, a kid watching this speech and committing it to memroy is destined to give the wrong answer about which nation invented printing if ever on Jeopardy! “But, but, Obama SAID they invented it!”

Sad state of affairs here, when POTUS lies about history and our spoiled, overpaid, Obama-cheerleader journalists are willing to accept the lies. Did fact checking die on January 19? How long does Obama get a “free pass” from the press on his ridiculous lies? Nothing to offer on that, eh, Katie?

Pres. Barack Obama, Cairo University: 'Being president is fun. Say what I want, no matter how outrageous or wrong, and the American media will never question it. How cool is that?'
