Mayor Kevin Johnson Says He Has No Connection to Pres. Obama – 2008 Video Says Otherwise

Inspector General Gerald Walpin was investigating misused AmeriCorps funds until Pres. Obama fired him. Walpin’s investigation reportedly brought him into conflict with Obama crony Kevin Johnson, former NBA basketball player for the Phoenix Suns and now the mayor of Sacramento, California.
As a long-time Arizona resident, I adored Kevin Johnson when he played for the Suns. He was a gentleman, a dynamic athlete, a prominent man of character, an active advocate for children—KJ didn’t get into trouble with the law as some sports figures seemed to do. He was a local hero in Phoenix, in Arizona. I’m sickened and saddened by this, and hope that the discoveries by IG Walpin bear out to be untrue.
But, it doesn’t look promising.
From what I’m seeing of preliminary information that IG Walpin uncovered (and not made known on the MSM) is that Mayor Johnson used AmeriCorps grants to pay volunteers to engage in school-board political activities, run personal errands for Johnson, and even wash his car. This [allegedly] galling use of taxpayer funds doesn’t remotely resemble the man thousands of Phoenix Suns fans loved and admired.
The White House and Mayor Johnson currently claim that there is no connection between the two men. This video interview from Naked Emperor News with Johnson, taped in October 2008, says otherwise. In it, Johnson freely discusses his relationship and support and endorsement of then-presidential candidate Obama:

The president fired Mr. Walpin June 11 after Mr. Walpin filed two reports critical of Obama friends. The highest-profile of the two reports focused on misuse of funds at Sacramento’s St. Hope Academy, then run by former NBA star Kevin Johnson before Mr. Johnson was elected Sacramento’s mayor in November. Mr. Johnson was a frequent stump speaker for Mr. Obama during last year’s campaign and has claimed in TV interviews to be particularly good friends with first lady Michelle Obama.
