Just How Bad Is the HR 2454 Energy Tax Bill? Greenpeace Won’t Back It
Posted By Vicki McClure Davidson on June 26, 2009
Greenpeace won’t back the energy tax bill, that’s how horrifically bad this bill is. Not only is it a huge tax ripoff for all Americans, is based on false science that congressional bill supporters and the EPA have tried to suppress or distort, but it REWARDS POLLUTERS. Read all about it on Greenpeace’s site:

A moment of silence for Michael Jackson?
Are you freakin’ kidding me? I loved Michael Jackson as an entertainer (but his private life has been troubling–no, make that DISTURBING–for decades), and am deeply saddened that he died so young from what is looking like a tragic drug abuse problem, but this is pure nonsense for members of Congress to be interrupting national policy-making of such a crucial nature – where is the moment of silence for Farrah Fawcett?? Or Neda in Tehran?? Or any of the protesters in Iran who’ve been killed by their brutal dictator government? Or anyone, for that matter, anyone at all? Michael Jackson??
Hot Air: Video: House holds moment of silence for Michael Jackson
Fox News “news coverage” of Jackson’s death includes full-length music videos without news
Send FOX News an email of complaint… I already did, taking them to task for not reporting anything about Waxman-Markey, and elevating Michael Jackson to deity status, with no actual NEWS being reported: FOX email address is amer...@foxnews.com

Update from Michelle Malkin:
3:38pm: Shadegg: The science is not settled.
3:52pm: Sheila Jackson Lee back on the floor to brag on herself for “improvements” to the bill and job loss protection measures.
But, of course, Dems continue to insist no jobs will be lost!
***
4:02pm: Barney Frank on the floor. The placeholder has to do with regulating financial derivatives related to reducing carbon emissions. Says he’s confident they’ll have a good system in place.
Trust Barney Frank?
Criiiiikey.
4:05pm: Excellent exchange between chair and GOP Rep. Louis Gohmert. He asks for a physical copy of the 300-page-plus late-night amendment filed out of public view. Chair cannot tell him where one is. Rules him out of order for not making parliamentary inquiry. Chair stumped.
Barton asks chair if there is any rule requiring copy of bill being voted on to be nearby. Chair: Not that I’m aware of.
Barton asks if official copy is necessary to be at desk for final vote.
Chair says it’s at the desk. Barton says it’s not the official copy. Markey tells him to go to the cloakroom and look it up on the web.
Markey says the full bill and manager’s amendment is on the desk.
Chair rules that all the piles of paper at the desk “in effect” are an “official copy.”
WHO’S ON FIRST?
By the way, the manager’s amendment is in PDF form here.
4:22pm: Shadegg presses on access to bill at desk again. Chair says clerk is “integrating” pages of bill.
Rep. Bilbray: The biggest threat to environment is the smoke coming from the backroom deals surrounding this bill.
4:48pm: GOP Rep. Tom Price asks for moment of silence for all those who will lose their jobs under cap and trade. Heh. Request denied.
Rep. Pence: We can stop this bill. We can do better. And we must!
4:53pm: GOP Rep. Barton refers to suppressed EPA Carlin report. “The science is not there.”
Barton cites Spain’s green jobs boondoggle. Costs 2.2 regular jobs for every green job. “That’s not a revolution I want to be a part of.”
Waxman responds with emotional global warming babble.
5:17pm: Connie Hair reports from top GOP sources that Dems have pulled Patrick Kennedy out of rehab to vote.
Yes, it’s that close.
It has been a wild day on the House floor. GOP leader John Boehner is going to read the entire 300-page late-night manager’s amendment into the record. Good to see some fight left in the GOP. This is must see TV.

The phones are ringing off the hooks in DC. Keep it up! Congress is just now realizing that Americans are policing Congress, that we are not asleep at the wheel. Do not let them know that they can torpedo this travesty bill through without us recognizing what’s happening. I believe the Democrat majority is in a state of shock right now… KEEP DIALING.
Vote these clowns out in 2010. Co-author Henry Waxman added 300 pages to H.R. 2454 at 3 am in the morning, out of public view, and only THREE hours were permitted for review… update: test vote in, 217, for 205 against. New Update: 210 tied, go to Michelle Malkin’s blog for the latest “fence sitters” list…
Do you want to read this monstrosity of a bill? Want to see where a huge chunk of your paychecks will be going until the day you die? Pages 831 – 833 are particularly alarming.
This global warming/climate change/CO2 tax bill is 1,200-plus pages long, and with the new 300 pages tossed in by Henry Waxman within the last two hours, is now 1,500 pages. Click here to read HR 2454.
Did you vote for anyone who is a head honcho at the EPA? Do you know anything about who they are? Well, too bad, because these handful of non-elected EPA folks will be empowered to run EVERY SINGLE aspect of your life, based on powers granted them. The new Energy Czars…
What’s at stake: the killing of millions of jobs, the taxation of anything in the US that requires power to operate, the shameful robbing of your American liberties, taking a bigger chunk of your money for the government, justification to increasing government bureaucracy. Based on a lie. Carbon dioxide is a natural gas, just like water vapor, and is NOT a pollutant. We exhale CO2, plants take it in to then create oxygen. Will Congress try to limit breathing after this passes? I’m not being facetious here. This is such unbelievable hogwash based on cherry-picked, flawed data, a 4th-grader would see through it.
What’s next? Ridding the atmosphere of water vapor? Dear God, this is lunacy…
CALL 202-224-3121 to tell members of Congress we do NOT want this taxation bill passed.
This is Orwell’s 1984 on steroids.
~~~~~~
Update, 12:49 pm AZ, 3:49 pm ET: Congressman Mike Pence is on Sean Hannity’s radio show right now, saying the phones are melting in Washington. KEEP IT UP. The Republicans currently have the floor, but no matter how much they argue against HR 2454 cap-and-tax bill, Pence said the phone calls are making a huge difference.
If you get a busy signal, keep trying. I’ve been attempting off and on all day, with no luck getting through. That’s GOOD… keep dialing. This is NOT over, gang.
Rush Limbaugh quote from yesterday’s radio show:
“The President of the United States does not personally permit or allow anyone to do anything except people who work for him. The bottom line is he works for us. We are the ones who have the power to say, no, we’re not going to allow you to destroy our public sector; we’re not going to permit you to destroy the greatest economy in the history of the world.”
I simply want to cry that my country has come to this. Horse trading votes on the floor of Congress. Ignoring constituents, suppression of the facts, bill after bill scheming to totally unsettle the constitution and to ensure spreading the wealth of those who have worked hard for years to realize the American dream to those who are politically correct, bow to the almighty Zero and sit on their butts with their hands out.
It seems every week we are fighting another battle and we are losing badly. Now it’s come down to simply putting placeholders in bills where they don’t want the details to get out!
I not only don’t have a President, I don’t have representation because representatives are only voting for their beliefs regardless of my pleas.
And the bottom line: there’s nothing I can do about.
I had to turn C-SPAN off. These are the people we elected? I am ashamed that this is what we have for a government. The bill apparently is in 2 parts where amendments were issued at 3 am that override the original bill, yet the original bill is the only item being debated. It has become a circus when Waxman is giving out gifts right on the floor for going with his bill. Again no one has read it. It does nothing to make us energy independent, but will destroy what’s left of this country. I am so mad. I cannot believe that this is our government . You can see the partisan sides fighting it out. The GOP is getting the short end of the stick on every debate. If this passes we are done, but this is what Obama wants. Welcome to the NEW AmeriKA. How do you like this HOPE and CHANGE!
Bilbray is the man. San Diego County, I hope San Diego remains the sane area of the failed state of California. I want to see the faces of the Cali voters who voted for change when they start seeing the price of energy, goods and services. I’m so ready with the I told you so, they will return with how it is Bush’s fault though. Sigh.
I watched Boehner step through the 309 page amendment on C-SPAN, with Waxman trying to stop him.
Waxman is disgusting.
I know that 7 republicans voted for the bill.
We need to know their names so that we can inform them that they are out of a job come next election. It doesn’t matter if you are a constituent or not. We should all worry them to death with e-mail, phones etc.
Now the bill goes to the senate, and here we go again.
Obama is already pushing them to pass the bill, mainly because it will be a financial windfall for him, and his cronies.
And believe you me, Rahm (twinkle toes) Emanuel is strong-arming anybody on the fence.
Our government has always had a degree of corruption, granted, but nothing like this.
