Bias and Bashing: McCain’s Camp Still Trashing Sarah Palin

Gov. Sarah Palin, the target of so many from the Left and the Right

Gov. Sarah Palin, the target of so many from the Left and the Right

When was that historic presidential election? It’s getting close to the 8-month mark about now, isn’t it?

Yeah, it was THAT long ago. So, what’s up with McCain’s people? Crikey, when will their high school pettiness and back-biting END ALREADY?

And yet, as though the election were just last week, rather than before Thanksgiving, the nasty slams, trashings, snide comments, insults, and flat-out lies thrown at or told about Gov. Sarah Palin continue (let’s not forget the infamous campaign wardrobe that the Republican National Committee and John McCain’s staffers bought for her to wear/borrow during the two-month campaign). Such ongoing trashings… like the relentless biting and sucking of blood by voracious mosquitoes at a Fourth of July picnic.

And it isn’t all David Letterman’s fault this time. Imagine that…

There is an excellent analysis of an upcoming Vanity Fair “hit piece” at Conservatives4Palin: Updated: John McCain’s People Can Not Stop Trashing Sarah Palin; Kristol Identifies Steve Schmidt; here are a few excerpts:

Other than the rehashed lies (nothing new here from the backstabbing McCain people), this article has some funny points. I’m not saying that the author was trying to be funny, but the way they present the McCain campaign is ironically funny. I still can’t believe that this article praises Steve Schmidt. When was the last time Steve Schmidt’s candidate won an election? Why does Steve Schmidt like to trash Sarah Palin so much? As Rush Limbaugh pointed out:

“John McCain’s campaign staff has spent more time attacking Sarah Palin than it did attacking Jeremiah Wright, Bill Ayers…and Obama himself.”

When it comes down to it, John McCain was the worst Republican presidential candidate since Bob Dole. Whose brilliant idea was it to suspend this campaign? What was Schmidt thinking there? How did it help that McCain “flew back to Washington to solve the problem” and yet sat in on the meetings, said nothing, and then voted in the same manner as Barack Obama on TARP!?

[...]

In classic hit piece fashion, Purdam only speaks to Palin’s critics. I bet it really gives you a clear picture of someone when you only talk to people who hate that person. I bet you can really gain insight into a person when you only talk to people who wish that person ill. It’s almost like Putham went out and read all the old hit pieces from the campaign and compiled a list of all the people who hate the governor, then tracked them down in Alaska to ask them for some new quotes attacking her.

It’s not just McCain’s people; the Left is still doing it. Insulting humor or inexplicable violence/harm to Palin, it simply never stops. Just last week, John Kerry made a tasteless crack about Sarah Palin: John Kerry on Sanford: Too bad Palin didn’t go missing too. Wanda Sykes told a few promiscuous-style jokes about Palin at the White House dinner (Palin was not present), unfunny sicko comedienne Sandra Bernhard wants her to be gang-raped by urban blacks, and we all know about Letterman’s slutty airline attendant joke and perverted statutory rape joke about her daughter while they attended a New York baseball game. Not many know about Letterman’s other “Palin jokes” that she is an illegal drug user, Jew hater, prostitute, bimbo, and imbecile. Name one Democrat who is crucified for NOTHING as often.

Does anyone remember what heinous or erroneous or boneheaded things Nancy Pelosi did last month? Or Barney Frank? Or Harry Reid? Or Hillary Clinton? Or Arlen Specter? Or Chuck Schumer? For instance, remember when Pennsylvania Senator Arlen Specter suddenly switched from Republican to Democrat a few months ago, and was promised by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid that he would retain his two-plus-decades seniority for Senate committees, which would be quite the perk, but enraged many Democrats who would have to step behind him on plum panels and committees? Because there was enough huffing and puffing and screaming occurred behind closed doors about this, despite Reid’s soothing assurances, Specter was slapped down to rookie… he became be a junior Democrat. Senate stripped him of his seniority, after a unanimous voice vote. Ouch. Where are the jokes about THAT, I ask rhetorically.

While most informed conservatives do remember the Specter turncoat debacle and many other moronic acts by Democrats in Congress, millions of Americans, for the most part, most can’t even tell you WHO these people are (OK, most liberals will know Hillary Clinton, but I’ll bet more than half can’t name what role she fills in the White House), and most aren’t informed enough to tell you what “cap and trade” is or can explain in a few sentences what Obama’s policies are on ANYTHING. Hey, it’s summer… time to chill and relax. Stoke up the BBQ, pour another cold Long Island ice tea, and just veg out, ignoring what’s going on in DC while building up that tan, poolside.

Pathetic.

So, if most Americans are clueless about what is going on in Washington, why the undying fascination, almost eight months after the election, with Sarah Palin? It defies logic.

The fact that Palin is still being pummeled by Democrats as well as Republicans is very telling. She makes them nervous. She has a growing fan base among conservatives, and rather than see what it is that she does that inspires that base, they have decided destroying her is easier.

Media bias is fat and sassy and lazy, trying to pick clean the bones of Sarah Palin whenever opportunity presents itself.

But this woman has proven herself to be remarkably resilient and good-natured about the taunting, the nasty jibes, the ridiculous lies. Unless you’re a late night comedian making a perverted joke about her daughter. Oh, wait, even then, she was in control and non-ruffled, stern but not wigged out, and ultimately accepted Letterman’s questionable and belated apology.

Sarah Palin is beyond remarkable. She has been attacked more viciously on television, in the news, and even among politicians, than anyone I can remember in the past few decades. And for the most part, she conducts herself with grace, poise, and humor. A spine of steel… compared to her, Obama has a spine of Jell-o.

Barney Frank, on the other hand, for all his years in Congress, can’t handle ONE negative question from a Harvard student or a reporter without erupting into an embarrassing, loud-mouth diva. Pelosi is neurotic and fast on the draw to call anyone she doesn’t like or could torpedo one of her plans a liar. Reid is just a hapless stooge from Nevada.

To those who still can’t figure out Palin’s appeal, here’s a short list: strong conservative values, family devotion, an elected servant’s heart, intelligence, honesty, strong sense of fiscal responsibility for her state, a lack of guile, deep religious convictions, patriotism and love of country, and above all else, nearly flawless integrity. She isn’t perfect, no one is, but she’s close. She really ISN’T like anyone in Washington, DC. She’s conservative and supports the provisions of the Constitution ALL the time, not just when it sounds good in a speech.

OK, that wasn’t fair nor accurate… there are a number of elected officials who can be categorized similarly.

But THEY aren’t attacked daily by liberals, are they? Or by blatantly biased, poorly researched, 9,000-word hit pieces in Vanity Fair?

  1. ted says:

One observation about Sarah Palin that sticks deep inside like a dagger: Palin fits the description of an NPD (Narcissistic Personality Disorder) to a tee. This fact, which should frighten the bejesus out of everyone, is also the one that Kristol fears most, as its the first one he trots out and dismisses not at all convincingly:

“Is there any real chance that “several” Alaskans independently told Purdum that they had consulted the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders? I don’t believe it for a moment. I’ve (for better or worse) moved in pretty well-educated circles in my life, and I’ve gone decades without “several” people telling me they had consulted the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders.”

Anyone with enough experience in life has encountered dangerous people like NPD narcissists and ASPD sociopaths — Palin’s documented behavior closely fits both diagnoses, which often run in tandem.

For a partisan Democratic example, just look at Jonathan Edwards, another pol who fits NPD traits to a tee (http://www.slate.com/id/2213740):

“John Edwards outed himself as one when forced to confess an adulterous affair. (Given his comical vanity, the deceitful way he used his marriage for his advancement, and his self-elevation as an embodiment of the common man while living in a house the size of an arena, it sounds like a pretty good diagnosis.)”

Palin is very probably NPD, and maybe ASPD too (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ASPD). Based on this alone, her political career should be dead, no matter what people think of her actual politics.

  2. Bogie says:

To Ted: Hilarious that your “diagnosis” of Palin is based on an entry in Wikipedia – everyone knows that it is edited by liberals and has a left-leaning bias. My daughter’s teachers won’t let them use Wikipedia as a reliable source in research papers. Unless it’s about something nonpartisan like carrots or the invention of the airplane, it can’t be relied upon as an accurate source. Slate is also liberal, sometimes extremely so.

So Ted – Palin has Narcissistic Personality Disorder? Saying it and proving are two totally different things. Where is your evidence? Give us a few examples of when she demonstrated Narcissistic Personality Disorder. You also said you think she is a sociopath. Do you even have a clue as to what a sociopath is, Ted? I don’t think so.

She’s like John Edwards?? LOL – funny, Ted. What sordid infidelities does Palin need to “confess,” since you linked her bogus NPD affliction to that of John Edwards? No comparison. He’s a proven liar, a proven adulterer and womanizer, and didn’t care that his ailing wife found out about his love child with his mistress – he finally confessed after he was caught by paparazzi leaving his hotel room with his lover. Palin has done WHAT to make you jump the shark, Ted? Except mentioning a few lame liberal extremeist Palin haters in Alaska without medical degrees who diagnosed Palin from a mental disorder manual, and of course, your obvious hate of the woman, what else do you have to make your case? What behaviors has Palin demonstrated that support your wacky conclusion that she has Narcissistic Personality Disorder? I saw nothing in what you wrote. Heck, if that’s all it takes to make a compelling case, just wait til I publish MY non-authoritative proof (without using Wikipedia and talking to just a few Obama skeptics in my neighborhood) that Obama is a narcissistic, lying, reckless, anti-American socialist with a serious God complex.

LOL – you liberals crack me up, trying to smear Palin any flimsy way you can. You didn’t make your case, and you again revealed how clueless you are about why Palin is so admired.

    Peace out, Ted.

  3. Kevin says:

The fact that she authored–allegedly–two biographies before she ever accomplished a damn thing in her liife aside from smearing and defaming her opponent into dropping out of the race is a textbook example of narcissism.

Oh wait, that was Obama. never mind.

  4. malabar says:

Sarah Palin reminds the left of what they could have been if they were raised with any morals, and they are jealous of her level of success without having mommy and daddy or her husband give it to her. a self-made woman who believes in God and family? that’s like water to the witches on the left- male and female.
