Energy Czar Doesn’t Really Know All That Is in Energy Cap-and-Trade Tax Bill
Posted By Vicki McClure Davidson on June 30, 2009
Carol Browner has only read “vast portions” of the Waxman-Markey global warming/climate change taxation bill (HR 2454) that the House barely passed last Friday. That’s a more than a bit troubling. After all, she’s Assistant to the President for Energy and Climate Change in the Obama administration. “Vast portions” is eloquently vague. And stupid.
Call me a cockeyed optimist, because I believe SHE, of all people in our government, should know and understand fully this bill, and its onerous amendment, inside and out. Additionally, Browner previously served as Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) during the Clinton Administration in the United States. She was the longest-serving administrator in the history of the EPA. So Browner is no “newbie” to the energy game.
Now I’m sure the anchors at FOX News who challenged Browner haven’t read either HR 2454—the cap-and-trade/cap-and-tax-to-oblivion climate change, 1,200-page bill—nor its last-minute, submitted-in-the dark-of-night 300-page amendment all the way through, from start to finish. But that is NOT their job, am I right?
The FOX News team is not comprised of elected officials whose vote can pass the single largest tax bill ever to assault Americans nor are they appointed by BHO to act as a “czar” to oversee America’s energy.
Carol Browner is the Energy Czar. What role should any “Energy Czar” play in a national energy taxation bill? I would say an ACTIVE role. IT’S HER JOB.
So, is it “unfair” for Browner to be queried as to whether or not she’s read the bill? Puleeeeze. I think it’s not only fair, but responsible journalism (for a change) to ask her about it.
And what about the mysterious, unprecedented “place holder” mechanism shoved into the bill, a “freebie space” allowing bill-writers to insert any new language/text/taxes/mandates, to be determined AFTER the law was approved? I’m very nervous about that provision… is Browner aware of this “go ahead and add anything you want” placeholder in the bill? Read Michelle Malkin for more details: Here is the cap-and-tax “placeholder:” Where’s the fine print?
Here’s the video of Browner’s clumsy and petulant tap dance on the bill:
Carol Browner hasn’t read the highly contested cap-and-tax climate bill
And, for the record, Browner was also a member of Socialist International, and was one of the leaders of that group’s “Commission For a Sustainable World Society.” That commission believes that wealthy countries should shrink their economies to address climate change.
So, she’s a socialist, snippy, AND clueless. I feel so much better now.

Don’t believe this is not a tax on those making under $250,000 and 95% of Americans would not get taxed. Everything this bill touches will go down the FOOD chain. Gas, electricity, food, products and services. Everything will go up, but it’s not a tax on you. Not to mention man made climate change is a myth.

You’re absolutely correct, Foxwood. This energy tax will affect ANYTHING that utilizes energy for production or manufacturing: food, clothes, electronics, housewares, transportation… the list is endless. It is not just going to effect our heating, cooling, and electricity consumption in our homes and workplaces. It will double, triple, or quadruple taxation (or worse) on everything in our lives. The new expensive mandates on selling our homes will cripple the housing market. Everyone needs to read what the House of Representatives did not read… this 1200-page tax bill and the 300-page amendment. It will destroy our economy and will particularly hit lower-income people. That’s because regardless of economic status, all of us will shoulder the huge jump in the cost of bread, meat, eggs, shampoo, soap, and on and on. Energy taxation to the power companies will be passed on to consumers. So, if you typically have a $300 heating bill in winter, expect it to be at least $700 next year. All to supposedly cap and eliminate CO2, a harmless component in our atmosphere, and the very thing we exhale. It’s nonsense.
This is the biggest scam and single tax bill ever to be forced on Americans.
We must kill this horrible bill… the Senate is our only hope. Call, fax, or email your senators TODAY.
Everything Obama has done to this point is designed to wreck the economy.
During the campaign he said said he was working within a 2 year window….WHY ?
This has got to be stopped ASAP, and sadly we have to wait until 2010.
The cap and trade bill will kill the coal industry.
Those of us who depend on coal to generate our power are going to see our energy bills double.
Obama knows this and doesn’t care.
Jimmy Carter said buy sweaters, remember that?
Obama is Carter on speed !!!!!
Call your senator and tell them to vote NO on cap and trade.
It’s all too much, too fast.
They are succeeding in overwhelming the American People with limited media coverage and constant sound bytes of Obama TELLING US WHAT WE’RE GOING TO DO.
The idiots that voted for him elected a dictator, and by damn, that’s what he wants to be,….IF WE LET HIM !!!!
Sorry about the rant but we, the red blooded Americans out here have 18 months to rectify this, and I have every confidence that we will unless the voters are still entranced by american idol, dancing with the stars, or there ilk.
Nothing wrong with those shows, but, knowledge is power.
In 2010, we need enlightened voters to reverse this assault on our country.
Otherwise….we’re screwed.
Even tho I HATE this bill and what it will do to our country, I say let them pass it with NO Republicans voting for it. Then, when the economy goes to H_ll in a Handbasket – which it for sure will – the Dems will have to take full reponsibility, hopefully ending thier reign for at least 50 years.
My really good idea is for Americans to take back their country by testing backers of the cap and crap bill by examination. Knowing that the cap and crap supporters are ‘poor test takers’ they should be given a verbal test allowing them to demonstrate their expertise..
Start please with Rep Waxman who always reminds me of the rear end of a mule I once walked behind while plowing.. Interviewers should be armed with rusted pitchforks that had been used to grub out the stall that was home to my mule. Each time Henry found himself unable to answer specific questions about his bill the interviews should attempt to straddle his testicles with the tines of the fork..
Shame on me for day dreaming about my perfect world….
Since February 20, 2009 this House of Representatives has passed three pieces of legislation totalling more than 9000 pages in length. I dare say that there is not a single member of the majority party in the House that has read 9000 pages in their lifetime!
In a perfect world, there would be no such thing as a full time legislator! In this perfect world, legislators would not deteirmine their own salary, but would be paid based on their personal knowledge of the legislation they have supported. (Thus our current Congress would work for what they are worth, NOTHING)
In the ultimately perfect world, those legislators failing to demonstrate knowledge of the legislation they voted for would be impaled on my manure fork, rather than being allowed to return to Washington alive.
I hope that some day, these members of the House will be as terrified of their constituants as I am of my Government!
My Republican Congressman Says Cap and Trade is Good for America.
And, he caught the Green River Killer.
Did you catch the Green River Killer?
No, no you didn’t.
You can hear his interview here.
http://www.mynorthwest.com/?nid=194&sid=184941
Dave Reichert SPEAKS: says Cap and Trade will be good for America
He argued that the expense would not be what the Heartland Institute, Heritage Foundation, and Wall Street Journal were predicting. He argued that it would cost around $.48 per day and that we would have better national security, more nuclear, coal and refining capabilities, and a cleaner environment with the bill. He argued that the conservative arguments against were mistaken, and that Washington specifically would be better off even though the bill was imperfect.
And, he caught the Green River Killer.
Yeah, it took him a couple of decades, but better late than never.
I hear Fox was thinking about making the Series 24 about Reichert. But instead of showing 24 hours in a day they would have to make each episode a year.
Mr. Reichert’s background as a diligent law enforcer is well known. It does not qualify him, however, as an expert on the economical turmoil and financial devastation that the Waxman-Markey cap and trade will inflict.
To echo your method of argumentation, MY senator is John McCain, a POW and war hero. He has called Obama’s cap and trade bill a grave mistake that will hurt Americans. This week, he said in an interview, “In its present form, which is cap-and-tax. … It’s really terrible, because I believe that climate change is real, I believe it is something that we need to address, and I’m sure that a lot of Americans do, but to do so with a bill like this? … What [the Obama administration is] doing is using cap-and-trade…to raise billions of dollars so they can spend money on Cash for Clunkers, you know, buying General Motors and Banks and the world’s largest insurance company. … So it started on the wrong path and now it’s just turned into, you know, it’s laws and sausages at its worst in my view.”
So, “your guy” caught a killer and “my guy” is an honored war hero and POW – that’s a stalemate. I’m not in McCain’s camp for global warming, but just using him as an example of the fallacious argumention you employed.
You’ve omitted that there are thousands of scientists who dispute the existence of global warming. And there’s that pesky problem with the EPA suppressing information from a report that derailed or criticized the faulty data used to try to prove the existence of global warming. An investigation is forthcoming on that suppression.
How can Reichert confidently assess a dollar amount on the impact a bill will have on our GDP and the financial impact on all Americans’ energy use when 300 pages of it was added at the last minute on Friday and has not been thoroughly reviewed by ANYONE in the US House, including the Energy Czar, and 1200 pages of it has not been made available for more than a week?
It’s weird that you asked me or readers if WE had captured a killer like Reichert had. What kind of a question is that? Total non sequitur, as is most of your post. It’s illogical to ask when assessing the impact of a cap-and-tax energy bill. Not really sure what you were trying to prove with that wacky rhetoric. And being the subject of a proposed TV show about catching a killer is totally irrelevant to this topic.
You said Reichert said it “would cost around $.48 per day and that we would have better national security…” Impossible. Cap and trade is all about mandates, increased rules, and penalties to grab taxpayers’ dollars under the guise of protecting the planet from humans. I’m clueless how this has anything to with national security. And this $0.48 he cites, is it per person, or per family, or per household, or per business for gasoline, electricity, coal use, natural gas use? In a 24-hour day, that would be just 2 pennies more per hour. Did he conveniently forget about how this bill will increase the cost of EVERYTHING? After reading through a small bit of the bill, 2 pennies a day is utter poppycock. One new law in the energy bill is that homeowners must fulfill a slew of requirements and spend potentially thousands of dollars on “green improvements” on their homes before they can LEGALLY sell them, and homes must be inspected first by a new government branch (which I’ll call the Housing Nazi Czar, for lack of the real term) before they are GIVEN PERMISSION TO SELL THEIR HOMES. Is this Cuba or Russia? George Orwell nailed it in 1984 about Big Brother watching…
Reichert said he was right and Heartland Institute, Heritage Foundation, and Wall Street Journal are wrong? That is exceedingly arrogant, I’m afraid. I read the comments left by people who visited the website you provided me. Every one of the comments posted were highly non-supportive of his interview, and decried him for his naivete on the “big picture” financial impact of the Waxman-Markey bill. There was also mention about how he stumbled on ANWR, and one commenter said he flat-out lied. I didn’t listen to the interview… after reading the comments, I think I have a good idea as to what he babbled about.
Since Reichert said HE was right and Heartland Institute, Heritage Foundation, and WSJ are wrong, he would likely say that he knows more on this topic than does Steven Milloy, respected founder of JunkScience.com, who has scientifically debunked global warming as a hoax. Milloy holds a B.A. in Natural Sciences from the Johns Hopkins University, a Master of Health Sciences in Biostatistics from the Johns Hopkins University School of Hygiene and Public Health, a Juris Doctorate from the University of Baltimore, and a Master of Laws from the Georgetown University Law Center. He has also authored more than 500 articles or columns, many of which expose global warming as a hoax or science using selective or faulty data. How many science or economic degrees does Reichert hold? How much formal education on the subject, outside of politics, does Reichert actually have?
Reichert would also have to say that Dr. Bruce West, a distinguished researcher with the Army Research Office who has done extensive studies on the sun impacting our climate more than man-made conditions, is also wrong.
Tell me again why catching a killer makes Reichert a global warming energy taxation bill expert? And how did he determine that all these other respected resources and science experts are wrong, but he is right? With all due respect, Reichert is a Republican turncoat, and I have respect for him as a former law enforcer, but not as a member of Congress who sold America up the river by voting for this money-grab “tax the hell out of Americans” bogus energy bill.
