Screwball Comedy: White House Misspells Barack Obama’s Name on US-Russian Document, Plus More Obama Snubs & Gaffes in Moscow: UPDATE: Michelle’s $6,000 Purse

More screwball comedy in the White House and in Moscow...

More screwball comedy in the White House and in Moscow...

For those who’ve had enough of the media’s excessive-gluttonous-oversaturation of the “Michael Jackson Circus-Hype-Spectacular-Manic-Hero-Worship” press coverage for the past two insufferable weeks, here are a few decent chuckles for you.

Screwball comedy in the Obama administration always makes me smile.

From The Hill, White House spells Obama’s name wrong:

White House spells Obama’s name wrong
By Eric Zimmermann

Someone might want to look into whether an impostor took President Obama’s place during his trip to Russia.

In a release touting an agreement between Obama and President Dmitry Medvedev over how to craft a follow-up to the START arms reduction treaty, the White House claimed the document had been signed by one “Barak Obama.”

Whoops…

Good grief: Misspelling of Barack Obama's first name (I've circled it in yellow) by the White House

What’s with our government’s inability to “get it spelled right” when in Russia? Remember this embarrassment in Russia back in March, where the printed Russian word “reset” was misspelled by Hillary’s research staff, and instead, the word printed on the button spelled the word that means “overcharge”? Morons… the whole “press a reset button” idea was so lame and looked like a cheap kid’s toy or accessory to a cable TV game show. Then they made it uncomfortably worse by misspelling the ONE WORD on the cheap-kid-toy button gizmo. And THEN, Hillary made it even worse when she was earnestly describing to the foreign minister how very hard her people worked to get the word right, before the resulting BURN. “Did we get the spelling right?” “No, you did not.” Crikey, it was just one word and they muffed it. No Russian translators in all of DC?

Let the snubbing commence… I saved the best for last (not necessarily good for a belly laugh, but it definitely warrants a snort of disgust and a few eye rolls).

The list of presidential snubs is growing mighty long: President of Brazil, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, President of France, German Chancellor, the Vatican, our military at the inauguration Heroes Ball, Israel, South Korea, Japan, the Iranian protesters, the people of Honduras… now we can add Russian leaders to the “Obama Snub List.” And add another “Obama Gaffe” to the appropriate list for his weird screwup on his daughter’s age and how he met his wife.

Hard to believe liberals still believe George W. Bush was “the stupid one.” I don’t think he ever messed up on how he met Laura, especially when meeting with Russian leaders. And getting his daughter’s age wrong? Snort.

UPDATE: How about Michelle Obama’s ridiculously pricey purse? She was spotted in Moscow carrying a designer VBH black alligator handbag that has been estimated by some to be worth “only” $875, while others say it is top of the line and could cost a high of $6,000. The manufacturer says she has the expensive clutch, the White House, doing more damage control, says it/s the cheaper $875 purse. I don’t care WHICH it is, it is still indicative of a spendthrift, Marie Antoinette behavior. Geez, with those $540 tennis shoes that she wears to feed the homeless at shelters, Michelle is showing more frequently how OUT OF TOUCH she is with the pain and struggle most Americans are experiencing with barely being able to keep their house payments up to date and to feed their families. How many bags of groceries could one family of four—no, make that 100 families of four—buy with Michelle’s stupid designer purse? The last purse I bought, from Goodwill, was five dollars and is still going strong. I don’t expect Michelle to shop at Goodwill, but buying designer purses during the nation’s economic crisis is extremely tacky, self-indulgent, and prima donna-like.

So much for J Crew… Michelle’s acclaimed “frugal mainstreet America” mentality is no longer here, if it ever was genuine in the first place.

Vladimir Putin told Obama how very much he enjoyed Bush’s hospitality and warmth: Putin praises Bush; disses Obama and Putin praises Bush hospitality during Obama visit. And I’ll bet Laura Bush was never seen wandering about casually carrying a $6,000 clutch purse.

From New York Times: Family Night for Obamas Miffs Some in Moscow

By Peter Baker | July 7, 2009

MOSCOW — If Paris is for lovers, it looks like Moscow is for families.

After passing on dinner with the French president to go on a date in the City of Light with his wife last month, President Obama took leave of his Russian hosts on Tuesday night to seclude himself in his Moscow hotel with his wife, Michelle, and their daughters.

The first family enjoyed a relaxed evening at the O2 Lounge, the super-chic, super-pricey rooftop club at the new Ritz-Carlton, although no doubt the Secret Service first cleared the place of most if not all of the swaggering tycoons and leggy models who flock to such Moscow venues.

They could not ask for a more scenic vista. The glass-enclosed O2 offers a panoramic view of Moscow, including Red Square and the Kremlin, all the more striking as the lingering summer sun sets after 10 p.m. The club is “a place to see and be seen,” as its Web site says — that is, unless you are a visiting president who after a day and a half of blinis, beluga and bilats (the diplo term for “bilateral meetings”) just wants to hang out with the clan.

The decision to brush off the Russians on one of his two nights here miffed some in the Moscow government who did not understand why he would not devote the scarce time to his hosts. Mr. Obama had dinner with President Dmitri A. Medvedev on Monday and lunch with him on Tuesday. But with the second dinner slot unavailable, he ended up having breakfast Tuesday with Prime Minister Vladimir V. Putin, a known night owl not given to American-style early morning business meals.

The Obamas, though, wanted some downtime before getting back on Air Force One to head to Italy for three days of meetings at the Group of 8 summit meeting and, from there, to Ghana for a one-day visit.

Mr. Obama has seemed tired here, several times fumbling the pronunciation of Mr. Medvedev’s name and Mr. Putin’s title. Beginning a speech here, he mistakenly said he first met his wife in school instead of at the law firm where they actually met. And he misstated his younger daughter’s age.

Michelle buys her own purses. What business is it of yours?

    Jealous much?

    • admin says:

LOL, you’re kidding, right? ROFL – you’re hilarious, Ed! I’m the queen of frugality. Jealous? Too funny. No, I’m actually a bit disgusted instead by her hypocrisy and the double standard she’s putting forth. Who in the world who has any sense of frugality could justify spending thousands of dollars on a stupid purse? Or $540 on tennis shoes? And wear those shoes to feed the homeless? Royalty, clueless royalty.

During the election, Michelle O bragged about wearing J Crew, which is moderately priced. She said she understands average women and isn’t a part of the “elitist” fashion ilk. Guess she changed her mind in the last few months. Or it was all an act during the election, and now her true colors as a spendthrift are coming out.

Of course she can afford it. The problem is her choice to buy that ridiculously expensive purse during these times of financial hardship smacks of Marie Antoinette – it’s a PURSE, not a room of furniture or a teen’s first car. A PURSE. Since her husband has been telling Americans to cut back, a $6,000 purse sends a terrible message of insensitivity and “do as I say, but not as I do” to the hardships that many Americans are facing… unless you think it’s OK, Ed, for Michelle Obama to be a hypocrite. Me, I don’t think it’s OK, and I’ll make fun of her lame decision at any opportunity.

As wife of the leader of this country, the expectation of Americans to “give back” and “spend less” has been drummed for a long time now by Michelle and Barack. As I’ve stated before in frugality pieces, I consider such frivolous spending elitist, especially since FLOTUS is suppose to be a role model. Or, I’m guessing liberals think that she is entitled to not have to pull in the belt because that’s how Democrats are. One set of rules for Dems, another harsher set of rules for Republicans. Such as how Nancy Reagan was attacked ruthlessly all the time by the press for buying any new clothes and for wanting to replace the White House china. Not one liberal media outlet said a negative word about Hillary Clinton wearing pantsuits on the campaign trail that cost between $2,000 to 6,000 each. But the clothes the RNC had to rush to buy for Sarah Palin and her family for the campaign trail has been vilified and mocked for months. Yes, I know they spent a total of $150,000 – this was for her to have clothes and cosmetics for two solid months, a few outfits for the kids, a few suits for hubby. They only had a short period of time to pull it all together before the stumping began – shopping for sales wasn’t likely on the agenda. Not an unreasonable amount of money for such a large wardrobe, and donations to the RNC paid for all of it. No taxpayer money was used, and it was McCain staffers who did the shopping. So, why the continued squawking by Democrats and liberal media against Palin, like she ran out with the credit card?

Because, Ed, there are two distinctive unfair standards in the MSM: For Democrat women, spend all you want on clothes and the press will applaud your fashion sense and style and sing your praises. For Republican women, don’t even think about it, you’ll be toasted. I guarantee not one major reporter in the MSM would denounce Michelle’s $6,000 purse. But if Republicans like Sarah Palin or Laura Bush or Michele Bachmann had done the same, there would be hell to pay. And the media would dogpile on it forever.
