Like a Wild Little Kid in a Candy Store: Obama Spending $18 Million to Redesign Recovery Website

Obama is spending $18 million for a website redesign... he's a frat boy with Daddy’s credit card

More spendthrift atrocities from the Obama administration. They’re just falling out of the woodwork these days. Michelle Obama’s ridiculous $6,000 handbag in Moscow yesterday, Barack Obama’s $100-a-pound wagyu Japanese steak for his celebrity-attending (everybody conga!) White House parties, and the $250,000 Obama date to New York City are just the tip of the devil-may-care, spoiled, wastrel iceberg.

As someone who designed her own frugality website, a companion to this commentary blog, I appreciate the long hours and detailed work involved in building any website, especially one with intricate coding and scripts. It took a long time for me to build the website, since my background is English literature, but with an old HTML manual and scouring myriad online tutorials, I built it with my own ten little fingers. For free. OK, it isn’t at all fancy, lacks a lot of techno bells and whistles, and doesn’t have a database or an e-store, but I’m pretty dang proud of it. Since its content is about being thrifty and cutting out unnecessary expenses, the price for me (free, except my time) to build it myself was in alignment with the site’s mission and frugal philosophies.

My website design background is undeniably limited. But I can say without any hesitation that spending $18 million of taxpayers’ money to RE-design the Obama-propaganda government website (Recovery.gov) is an outrage. A frivolous, elitist, self-indulgent waste of millions of dollars during an escalating recession with record unemployment numbers. What the heck, Obama? Why are you still behaving like a stupid, selfish frat boy with Daddy’s credit card? Or a spoiled little kid running wild in a candy store, grabbing everything yummy that catches your eye? A slim majority of Americans thought they elected a president, but instead, got a man who thinks he’s king.

The foundation of the Recovery.gov website has already been developed and paid for, so it would appear that whatever overhaul is planned is more of a vanity issue. Or a capricious, “hey, we gotta have it” entitlement mentality. Tweaking and expanding the website should not cost anywhere near $18 million, even over a 5-year period. Another example of Democrat heedlessness to be fiscally responsible stewards of taxpayers’ money. It dovetails with everything else coming out of the White House these days: all have huge price tags and the meager return on the investment is a ripoff. The stimulus/porkulus bill (possibly a second one), TARP, the global warming hoax cap-and-tax energy bill, socialized health care, sin taxes… the list of this administration’s overreaching “spend-and-tax” plans keeps growing. Who cares how expensive it is? Who cares if we don’t have the money? Taxpayers will do and pay as we demand…

$18 Million to Redesign Recovery.gov
By James Richardson | July 9, 2009

Reminiscent of the no-bid, cost-plus contracts awarded in the Bush administration to defense contractors, ABC News reported last night the Obama Administration awarded a 5 year $18 million contract to Smartronix, a Maryland-based IT firm with connections to House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, for the redesign of Recovery.gov.

Launched in February to track the expenditures of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, Recovery.gov was to be the pinnacle of web-enabled transparency, according to President Barack Obama.

“The site is the tip of the iceberg for the effort that will go into taking spending tracking and accountability to the next level,” one administration official said of their intended level of transparency.

But now, it seem, the administration has failed to deliver on two pledges central to the Obama campaign’s rhetoric: fiscal responsibility and unrivaled transparency.

An acerbic Ed Morrissey asks, “Since when does it cost $18 million for a website, even one with a database requiring updates on a quarterly basis?”

Not often.

It makes any sane person think, “When, oh when will this unadulterated nonsense stop? When will someone slap some sense into our immature spend-aholic president and his giggling sycophants?”

The growing protests this week against socialized health care are becoming louder: click here and here to read about these conservative protests on Michelle Malkin’s blog.

The lack of media coverage this past Fourth of July weekend didn’t deter huge numbers from turning out for tea party protests across the nation: click here and here and here for videos, photos, and links.

In this Age of Obama, we are reminded daily that, because of this down-the-toilet economy, Americans must “get skin in the game” and “tighten the belt” and must accept that they can’t live the same lifestyle they did prior to Obama’s election, those frugal mandates do not apply to our elected officials. Especially not to Pres. Obama.

And that, my friends, is what “hope and change” has become.

And I quote ” but I’m pretty dang proud of it “. and you should be !

You are providing an essential service to us, along with Limbaugh, Beck, Levin, Malkin and many others that are trying to take this country back toward our Constitutional directives.

Heard Mike Pence mention on Rushs’ show today that the republicans ( conservatives?) in the house are going to vote against an amendment that would nibble around the edges of the fairness doctrine.
    They never give up.

Love your blog, love the format, keep up the GREAT WORK !!!!!!
