Obama’s Recession: Racial Gap Growing, No End in Sight — Unemployed NYC Blacks’ Numbers Increasing at Alarming Rate

New York has been one of the hardest-hit states with record deficits during these times of economic turmoil. Unemployment among blacks in New York City has increased much faster than for other ethnic groups and for other areas of the country.
It’s the fulfillment of socialism, the “great experiment” that keeps failing. Misery is equally distributed. It never delivers what it promises, and hits the poor and elderly hardest. Obama is NOW saying all is going according to his master plan, but he conveniently keeps changing that plan is and changing “what he said” a few months ago to make it fit the current catastrophe. This week, to buy himself a huge chunk of time, he has said that it could take YEARS for us to get out of this. Just a few months ago, though, he said we needed to accept and embrace his bankrupt-America, tax-us-to-death $700-billion-plus stimulus package and corporate bailouts. We were promised many times by Obama that this porkulus bill would have NO earmarks or pork, and that we would see the creation of millions of new jobs, many “shovel-ready,” and the economy would get a jolt immediately. The One is likely wishing YouTube didn’t exist, to capture his fabrications of the truth. The numbers show we’re heading to double-digit unemployment, the worst in 25 years, if not longer.
Gotta keep spinning it, and maybe most Americans will be fooled or distracted long enough to push through the two biggest, most un-Constitutional, pork projects ever in American history: government-run socialized health care and the cap-and-tax-until-you’re-destitute global warming energy bill.
Even his right-hand man, VP Joe Biden, has said that Obama seriously screwed up evaluating the problems of the economy… and we know that is because Obama, hellbent on doing it the Saul Alinksy way, deliberately and willfully went against the urgent advice of his economic experts. He has thrown billions of taxpayer dollars at the problem and made it worse. Spendthrift recklessness.
This week, Obama announced new gifts of taxpayer monies he’ll be handing out: he’s pledged billions of dollars to Ghana (where on Earth is this money coming from? China? The boardgame Monopoly?) and a generous amount to the nation’s community colleges because helping them would “create jobs.” What the heck?? College graduates are not typically job creators until at least a decade after college… up until them, they are entry-level employees. How does this create new jobs during a runaway recession with a record number of businesses going belly up? It doesn’t.
This is one big, fat baloney sandwich.
This escalating economic mess is Obama’s. No more “I inherited this/blame Bush” excuse cards left. America is realizing they have a rank amateur with a nice smile in the White House. And his dropping approval numbers, in the negative for more than a week now, are proof positive of it.

Job Losses Show Wider Racial Gap in New York

July 12, 2009Unemployment among blacks in New York City has increased much faster than for whites, and the gap appears to be widening at an accelerating pace, new studies of jobless data have found.
While unemployment rose steadily for white New Yorkers from the first quarter of 2008 through the first three months of this year, the number of unemployed blacks in the city rose four times as fast, according to a report to be released on Monday by the city comptroller’s office. By the end of March, there were about 80,000 more unemployed blacks than whites, according to the report, even though there are roughly 1.5 million more whites than blacks here.
Across the nation, the surge in unemployment has cut across all demographic lines, and the gap between blacks and whites has risen, but at a much slower rate than in New York.
Economists said they were not certain why so many more blacks were losing their jobs in New York, especially when a large share of the layoffs in the city have been in fields where they are not well represented, like finance and professional services. But in those sectors, the economists suggested that blacks may have had less seniority when layoffs occurred. And black workers hold an outsize share of the jobs in retailing and other service industries that have been shrinking as consumers curtail their spending.
“African-Americans have been hit disproportionately hard,” said Frank Braconi, the chief economist in the comptroller’s office. “The usual pattern is that the unemployment rate among African-Americans tends to be about twice as high as for non-Hispanic whites, but the gap has widened substantially in the city during the past year.”
Historically, the unemployment rate for blacks has always been higher than for whites. But since the start of the recession, in December 2007, the overall rate has risen by 4.6 percentage points — driving the black unemployment rate as high as 15 percent in April. The jobless figures among blacks became enough of a national issue that at a White House news conference last month, President Obama was asked what he could do to “stop the bloodletting in the black unemployment rate.”
The president said that to help any community, whether it be blacks, Latinos or Asians, he needed to “get the economy as a whole moving.”
“If I don’t do that, then I’m not going to be able to help anybody,” the president added.
In the first quarter of 2008, the rate of joblessness among blacks nationwide was 8.9 percent, compared with 4.8 percent for whites; in the first quarter of 2009, the rate for blacks had risen to 13.6 percent, while the rate for whites had gone to 8.2 percent.
