Audience Cracks Up When MO Rep. Carnahan Claims ObamaCare Will Save Money: “If It’s So Good, Why Doesn’t Congress Have to Be on It?” (video)

Posted By on July 21, 2009

The word is getting out… ObamaCare needs to be burned at the stake. An increasing number of American citizens are taking issue with the Democrats’ power-grabbing, Constitution-annihilating, mandatory socialist health care prison.

Government-run health care works great… unless you’re really sick, elderly, or middle-class. And unless you need medication or a procedure that some government bureaucrat deems is too expensive and you’re just not worth the price. Unless you’re Ted Kennedy, of course…

It has been predicted that ObamaCare will likely be run just as adroitly and cost-efficiently as the health care system the US government has been in charge of on Native American reservations for better than seven decades.

Which means “crappy.”

Lots of audience laughter ensued when Missouri’s House Rep. Russ Carnahan began praising the cost savings of socialized health care at a St. Louis college townhall meeting, as seen in the video below.

H/T to my favorite female conservative blogger Michelle Malkin:

Great commentary below from Kevin Jackson at The Black Sphere. It is Jackson’s voice you hear in the video asking, “If it’s so good, why doesn’t Congress have to be on it?” And to that question, I echo, “Indeed, why don’t they?”

Kevin, you rock. Here’s a portion of Jackson’s summary of the townhall meeting—you can go to his blog site to read the rest of his irreverent, biting, spot-on commentary on this issue and many others.

Favorite line from this piece: Carnahan has the distinction of being left of Massachusetts’s Barney Frank. *Guffaw… sarcasm goodness*

Democrat Carnahan Dismisses Black Man at Townhall
By Kevin Jackson

The Black Sphere | July 21, 2009

Yesterday, I attended a townhall meeting on healthcare with Representative Russ Carnahan, where he dissed this black constituent. For those of you unfamiliar with Missouri politics, the new breed of Carnahans are those who are riding the backs of their deceased father and former Democrat governor of Missouri, Mel Carnahan. Voting 100% of the time with Obama, Russ Carnahan has the distinction of being left of Massachusetts’s Barney Frank.

I must say that Carnahan was as nervous as taxpayer in a room full of liberals! The standing room only crowd obviously rattled him. Carnahan made little eye contact as he likely expected an echo chamber, recognizing instead that he was in Dante’s Inferno.

The crowd was split about 60-40 against him is my read, and that ratio is larger if you removed all the people who were helping at the event who last names begin with “Carnahan!” Many attendees were people with severe disabilities, and they were there for answers, not platitudes.

After speeches by the interim president and the Chancellor of St. Louis University, Carnahan pretty much read the Democrat Party talking points on socialize healthcare. He [painted] a pretty picture of the utopia that awaits us, if we just accept socialized healthcare.

[...]

Here’s the wrap:

Russ Carnahan did not have that townhall meeting to get our opinions. He was there to “sell,” actually “dictate” to us. Anybody with half a brain—and even a liberal—should know that the government can’t run healthcare effectively!

What the government is going to do is to insure that ALL Amerikans have healthcare “insurance,” not actual “coverage!” What is ya…ignant? Every socialized healthcare system in the world has (1) long lines, (2) red tape, and (3) very unhappy recipients of “utopian” healthcare. Let me take a moment to define government sponsored utopia: Life sucks, then you DIE!

The worst part about this new system is the government is selling it as a system that will help the most needy of America’s citizens, and in fact, it is they who will suffer the most. It’s sad that the government is using these and other people to peddle this lie to America.

This is why Carnahan refused to answer this black man’s question…

Brief bio on Jackson, who is no Johnny-come-lately to the anti-ObamaCare battlefield: Author of The BIG Black Lie and The Black Sphere blog; published in American Thinker, Townhall and Hoovers, and other international publications; also publishes The Black Sphere online magazine, located at openzine.com/theblacksphere; catch Kevin on The Black Sphere Radio Show every Thursday from 9PM to 11PM, Central time. RFC Radio Show every Wednesday from 6PM to 7PM, Central time.

Freebie plug is now over. Thank me over coffee some day, Kevin. Thumbs up on the piece and the video. And for being such a great boat-rocker at MO townhalls.

Let freedom ring!

  3. Kevin, Thank you for your comments on the town hall meeting. I was not able to be there. You are absolutely right. When has the Gov. ever been able to buy anything or run any program more efficiently than the privaye sector? NEVER. It’s why they sub-contract so many Gov functions out to the private sector because it’s done better and cheaper. If you are looking for the true motivation for this rush to take over healthcare, just get a calculation of the premium dollars collected by all the health insurers in the country. There it is. This is a huge pot of money and the Gov or at least this administration wants control of it. They have our income tax and our FICA tax money and healthcare represents a potential third pot of money to play with and squander. This has no more to do with improving healthcare and making it cheaper than the tobacco legislation over the past 10 years has had anything to do with protecting the public from cigarettes. It always been about the money the Fed and State Gov. can extort from tobacco companies. Now that the admministration has been exposed on the fact that their plan will cost more not less they are starting to shift the goal to “prevent increases in the future not decrease the cost now.”

I’m putting together a piece called talking points vs. thinking point that I’d like to send to you for considered use. I have no blog or reader following and you do and these points have to be made to a thinking public before we dismantle what we have for what the Gov will give us. My understanding from what I’ve heard of the town hall meeting is that this will not be a public option to run along side the private. In five years the private option will be phased out. How many Americans know that? Thank You
