Dr. Betsy McCaughey: health policy expert, former Lt. Governor of NY
Dr. McCaughey exposes and explains what is in the proposed single-payer/socialized health care program that was written by House Democrats and POTUS. Her interview is chilling and revealing, especially for older Americans.
ObamaCare, with its rationing, high costs, government mandates, and diminished services, is not the right answer for America.

So much for thoughtful debate and discussion and revising of the program. And for totally ignoring Harry Reid’s statement yesterday about voting after the congressional summer recess.
This may not happen and Emanuel could be just throwing this nugget of pie-in-the-sky wishing out there to the MSM, but we should always err on the side of caution. CALL YOUR SENATORS… Keep calling, faxing, and emailing. ObamaCare is hanging over our heads (like a noose) and we must let our elected representatives know that we do not want this. The battle is not over.

Biographical Info: Dr. McCaughey’s research on how to prevent infection deaths has been featured on Good Morning America, the CBS Morning Show, ABC’s 20/20, and many other national programs. She has appeared on Fox News Network’s Hannity & Colmes, The O’Reilly Factor, CNN’s Talk Back Live, and numerous radio programs.
Dr. McCaughey is the author of over one hundred scholarly and popular articles on health policy, infection, medical innovation, the economics of aging, and Medicare. Her writings have appeared in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, New Republic, Policy Review, Forbes Magazine, New York Law Journal, Los Angeles Times, U.S. News & World Report, and many other national publications. Her 1994 analysis of the dangers of the Clinton health plan in the New Republic won a National Magazine Award for the best article in the nation on public policy. Her article on the dangers of “Dumbing Down Medical Care” won the National Media Award from the American Society of Anesthesiologists. She has been profiled in The New Yorker, The New York Times Magazine, New York Magazine, The Washington Post, and other publications.

Hi I have never written on a blog but this health care has me so unnerved. I am 70 and have always paid for my own health care by doing without something else and expect others could do the same. I want to go to a town hall meeting and ask if the rep. can show me one government program that works without fraud and corruption. I already know the asswer, NONE. Don’t give the government a chance to screw this up to.
Francena, thanks for your input. I totally agree with you on this. Socialized, government-run health care will have its biggest negative impact on senior citizens, since they will be the group with the most frequent needs to seek medical help. Medicare and Medicaid have been a mess for years… I believe these can be fixed and there will be no need to throw out our entire system for another potential boondoggle from DC. Not to mention, government-run ANYTHING has never worked out all that well… Cash for Clunkers this past month has proven that.

They can arm you with information to help you take action, and not sit back like a scared little rabbit, letting the government take over on your health care.

I have recently heard arguments from the RIGHT that prevention and incentives might be acceptable in health care reform through government. Let me caution that we can not allow the government to be in a position to decide what is acceptable and what is not. Need I remind that we still don’t know if eggs are good or bad, whether rigid exercise is good or not, or whether alcohol and all tobacco in moderation might increase life expectancy and not reduce it? I smoked, have a high stress job, drink alcohol, paid insurance for forty years, never got sick, am as healthy as an ox. My two children got sick when they were young. They did everything right… they just got sick with deathly illnesses. My 8 year old son survived, as did my other son and it’s because we have the best health care system and medical professionals in the world. LIfe just happens, the cards are dealt, and we deal with it. I have lived long enough to piss on the graves of more “health nuts” than I care to mention. Once they are in that position it’s not a stretch to dictate every aspect of our lives. How about if homosexuals paid higher premiums? How about people that have unprotected sex? How about people with cancer in their families? People who ride bikes? I’ve seen a lot of them killed. Fast cars? People who live in urban areas? Let’s keep the government out of the decision making as much as possible and we’ll all be better off and much freer.
