“Town Hall” or “Town Hell”?

Terrific FOX news interview with Indiana congressman Mike Pence concerning the town hall protests and Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi’s marginalizing comments about the millions of Americans who do not want socialized health care:

Indiana congressman Mike Pence discussed Pelosi’s insults against Americans exercising their freedom of speech; interview with Megyn Kelly, FOX News:

Nancy “Liar of the House” (D-California) Pelosi and and Congressman Steny Hoyer (D-Maryland) have written an essay that was published in USA Today. The article maligns all American citizens who oppose ObamaCare and calls them un-American. If you’ve not yet read what these statist politicians wrote, here’s a link to the USA Today piece:

‘Un-American’ attacks can’t derail health care debate

No corroborative evidence or authoritative citation in the article, only empty “promises” and “claims” from the “dundering duo.” Here are a few key deceptions and unsubstantiated claims I pulled out of the Pelosi/Hoyer essay:

“Reform will mean affordable coverage for all Americans.”

FALSE: It’s already been pointed out that this bill will not cover all Americans, and rationing/decline of services will be necessary. Elderly citizens will be hardest hit. Additionally, health coverage for illegal aliens, while not specifically permitted in the bill, is not outlawed in the bill. Efforts to exclude illegal aliens from ObamaCare free health services were shot down by congressional Democrats. Despite statements from Democrat leaders to the contrary, the Obama administration could force the American people to pay for the healthcare of millions of illegal immigrants in the U.S. For many American taxpayers, ObamaCare plan will cost them much more than what they are currently paying into their current health insurance plans and there is no guarantee that the services will match or exceed their current coverage.

Many citizens are asking why Congress is exempt from participating in ObamaCare and allowed to keep their platinum-level coverage, funded forever by taxpayers… why indeed?

“We’ll be a much healthier country if all patients can receive regular checkups and tests, such as mammograms and diabetes exams, without paying a dime out-of-pocket.”

FALSE: Higher taxes and co-payments shoot down this claim of there being no out-of-pocket payment. It has been declared and mathematically proven by economists and experts that the proposed health care plan is so expensive, the claims of it being cheaper can be discredited easily; fixing the problems in Medicare and Medicaid have been denied discussion or consideration, limiting cash awards to ambulance-chasing or “slip and fall” lawyers has been ignored by Democrats in Congress.

Mammogram testing [reference to Pelosi's claim] affect primarily only women over age 35 or those with a family proclivity to having breast cancer. Detecting cancer early, while important in battling it, is no guarantee of someone actually being healthier and not developing cancer. While men in their older years have been known to contract breast cancer, there is no evidence that implementation of this government-run health care plan will affect how often men submit to mammogram testing. The logic is askew. Routine diabetes exams for all Americans are overkill, since the prevalence of diabetes is greater among older people. Among Americans aged 60 years or older, 23.1% (12.2 million people) have diabetes. Among Americans aged 20 years or younger, less than one-quarter of 1% (about 186,300 people) have diabetes. While detection early is important, routine, unwarranted exams of all people on ObamaCAre will drive up costs. A Diabetes Prevention Program study showed that a 5 to 7 percent weight loss from exercise and decreased dietary fat and calories can delay and possibly prevent type 2 diabetes in people with a high risk for diabetes.

Rather than fix the government-run portions of the health care system we currently have, ObamaCare suggests throwing out what is in place and put in this vague, not-sure-what’s-in-it-and-it’s-super-expensive master experiment. Crikey, based on that alone, no one should vote for it. Our government, any government, has a shabby track record on providing quality health care for cheaper than that offered in the private sector.

After 70 years of running the health care on Indian reservations or being in charge of VA hospitals, the government has fallen woefully short of being cost-effective or better than the private sector. They’ve been unable to satisfactorily fix these problems after years of trying, but feel confident that they won’t destroy America with government-run ObamaCare.

ObamaCare is being revised and rewritten to bring down the preliminary projected costs, and in so doing, the Democrat authors have had to exclude coverage for many Americans. Until the bill is finalized by Congress, how much it will cost is pure speculation. Unnecessary, costly medical tests could indeed create a greater money monster than we have currently.

There is no proof cited by Pelosi/Hoyer that more frequent checkups and more frequent medical tests and procedures makes anyone less likely to get sick. Detection of diseases can indeed help in either curing or managing diagnosed diseases, but the cause itself of the disease (lifestyle, heredity, age-related) cannot reliably be altered. Lifestyle changes (alcohol, drugs, sun exposure, etc.) are choices made by the person afflicted, and early detection is no guarantee that those changes will occur. Nations with government-run / single-payer health care do not have greater success than American does with cancer cures and preventions, and the waiting lines for treatment or tests can take months or years longer than it currently does in the United States. There is no authoritative evidence or tested, statistical data to support any of Pelosi/Hoyer’s claims that ObamaCare will improve the health of American citizens.

“Now — with Americans strongly supporting health insurance reform, with Congress reaching consensus on a plan, and with a president who ran and won on this specific promise of change — America is closer than ever to this century-deferred goal.”

FALSE: A majority of Americans have been polled numerous times on socialized health care. The numbers are growing against it. There is no reputable poll indicating that a majority of Americans support health care reform or health insurance reform. A new poll released today by Rassmussen Reports shows that a majority (51%) of Americans fear government on health care than they do insurance companies.

Republican house minority leader John Boehner has also spoken out against Nancy Pelosi and and Steny Hoyer’s hit piece against American citizens who are protesting against socialized health care being shoved down their throats.

From The Weekly Standard:
Boehner Slams Pelosi’s “Un-American” Op-ed

John Boehner has a statement on Nancy Pelosi and Steny Hoyer’s op-ed calling rowdy protesters “un-American”

“For months, House Democratic leaders have worked to silence any opposing views in this health care debate, both here in Washington and around the country where millions of Americans are struggling in this economy. Every poll taken in the last month shows that a majority of Americans are concerned about, if not outright opposed to, the Democrats’ plan because of the cost and consequences it would mean for their own health care. Each public forum should give every participant the opportunity to express their views, but to label Americans who are expressing vocal opposition to the Democrats’ plan “un-American” is outrageous and reprehensible.

“The American people deserve answers to basic questions about whether the Democrats’ plan will increase health care costs, add to the deficit, increase taxes on middle-class families and small businesses, put government between doctors and patients, force anyone to lose their current health coverage, kill jobs, promote taxpayer-funded abortion, or cut Medicare. The fact is Democrats have not been able to address the very real concerns the American people have.

It’s time for Democrats to start listening. When we return to Washington in September, Democrats should scrap their costly plan and finally work on bipartisan reforms that give Americans what they are seeking: better access to affordable care.”

The Democrats are trying to push health care reform too fast and they don’t seem to be
concerned about the effect their legislation HR3200 will have on Medicare Recipients. I
don’t see how Medicare can survive if they “squeeze $500 Billion out of it. Have they
not done enough to foolishly spend money we don’t have? All Democrat Senators and
Representatives should prepare for employment outside of Washington, D.C. if they push this bill through over the objections of the protesters.

  2. Dave B says:

I’m from Massachusetts and I know exactly what is going on here because I live in a state where the playbook was written and perfected. Health Care is a vehicle for the Democrat Party to control voters and strangle them into submission so they have to keep voting the Democrats in office once this monstrosity and monolithic beaurocracy gets a foothold. Our Governor wrote the book on “hope” and change and got elected, added over 2000 public employees that Romney had trimmed from the taxpayer payroll. Now you have 2000 people and their families that will vote for you at the expense and off the backs of taxpaying citizens. He cut all kinds of government programs but kept the ones that he created (minority and special interest beaurocracies.) We cut cops and firemen but we need a department to watch to make sure minorities and women in the workplace are up to par. The Democrats are making their move on the federal level and see the short window of opportunity to do it hence the big rush to pass “health care reform” before the break, pass the urgent stimulus bill that the President waited three days to sign. My hope is that the rest of the country is not Massachusetts and I can see that many citizens are getting wise to the game plan. Their big mistakes were that they didn’t do it first when everybody was still foggy from the election and they thought people wouldn’t notice that the biggest influence in higher premiums, costs, etc. from a single pill to massive medical machinery is lawyers and their torts. They underestimated the intelligence of the American people and I think they’ll pay for it.
