TV personality Kourtney Kardashian is pregnant with her first child

Sometimes, I get so incredibly wrapped up in what is happening to our country… the economy, the global warming energy tax bill, unemployment, and socialized health care, I forget that there is other non-political “stuff” out there.

I was curious as to what those who don’t follow politics care about and read about on the Internet. And here’s what I found.

From Just Jared:

Kourtney Kardashian is pregnant with her first child, E! reports.

The 30-year-old reality TV star (and oldest of the Kardashian sisters) has refused to name the baby daddy, though it’s likely that the father is Scott Disick, her newly-reinstated fiance.

“You’re going to have to see on the show [if we get back together],” Kourtney said, referring to her new reality show with Khloe, Kourtney and Khloe Take Miami, which debuts this Sunday on E!.

I know very little about Kourtney and her TV show. I DO know that Olympics winner Bruce Jenner is her step-dad, and well, that’s about it. I know a ton of stuff about other people in the news, but the purported father of her unborn child, Scott Disick, isn’t one of them. Until just now, I’d never heard of him.

We don’t have cable, so I’ll likely never watch Kourtney and Khloe Take Miami. If it’s any good, let me know.

Congrats on the happy news, Kourtney… having a baby is one of life’s most supreme joys.

UPDATE, December 29, 2009:

Exclusive photos of Kardashian’s newborn son Mason are now being released via Life&Style magazine.

From New York Daily News: First photos of Kourtney Kardashian with newborn son Mason:

Forget about keeping up with the Kardashians.

Now, it’s Kourtney Kardashian who’s trying to keep up with her newborn son Mason.

In an interview with “Life & Style,” Kardashian, 30, and Mason’s father Scott Disick, 26, gush over the new addition to their family.

“It feels amazing. It’s just so indescribable. You don’t get how good being a parent feels until it happens to you,” Kardashian tells the magazine.

From Southern Ledger: Police search home of accused Miley Cyrus stalker

Police on Thursday searched the home of a 53-year-old man jailed on charges he attempted to stalk Miley Cyrus during filming of her new movie on the Georgia coast.

Capt. Steve Morris of the Columbia County Sheriff’s Department did not say what investigators were looking for at the Appling home of Mark McLeod, who told Police he’s secretly engaged to marry the 16-year-old “Hannah Montana” star. The search warrant was sealed by a judge.

McLeod told a Tybee Island Police officer who arrested him in June that he had “thousands of pictures and letters to Miley on his computer,” according to a police report…

Actress Rebecca Schaeffer was pursued and ultimately murdered by her obsessed stalker, Robert Bardo. Rebecca was only 21 when she was killed.

Stalking of celebrities is creepy and frightening. The cruel price of fame is most evident in situations like this. So many celebrities have been pursued by delusional, dangerous people. Rebecca Schaffer, co-star of the sitcom My Sister Sam, was murdered on July 18, 1989 by her obsessed stalker, Robert Bardo. Rebecca was only 21.

There is an excellent article about it and how this tragedy changed the anti-stalking laws in California:

Reel Reviews: The Stalking Death that Changed the Law – Rebecca Schaeffer Never Lived to Realize Her Success

I’ve often wondered how often we don’t appreciate our own privacy when we learn about the lack of privacy these celebrities have. I know, when you opt to go into the spotlight of politics, professional sports, or entertainment, it’s a cross to bear. But it’s a mighty heavy cross. Some may make the argument that the fortune and privileges that comes with being in the “spotlight” balances out the negatives, like golddiggers and stalkers. I don’t agree.

I prayerfully hope that the people who look after Miley will keep her safe from wackos like this obsessed old guy who’s been pursuing her. There will be others, you can bet on that.

From Examiner.com: Casserole Queens & Bobby Flay: Chicken Pot Pie Throwdown

Bobby Flay challenges the Casserole Queens of Austin, Texas, to a Chicken Pot Pie throwdown. The Food Network chef won on the originally aired show in March 2009, but as Crystal Cook and Sandy Pollock says, “Everyone agreed we should have won!”

The Casserole Queens – Sandy Pollock and Crystal Cook – began their catering and delivery service in November 2006. According to their website, “When you think home-cooking convenience straight to your door, think Casserole Queens. We’re an Austin-based food delivery service that redefines hassle-free dinners. No trips to the store and no mess–just put it in the oven and get ready for a delicious meal.” I also read somewhere they have business cards shaped like little ovens!

Sandy and Crystal’s tagline, “Put some lovin’ in your oven!” is evident when drooling over their menu… They truly love what they’re doing!

I had never heard of the Casserole Queens before, so this was fascinating. Becoming famous because of a new spin on an old-fashioned, frugal way to use up leftovers and stretch out the food budget… only in America, eh? They deliver their acclaimed casseroles dressed as 1950s housewives. Too kitsch… love it!

I was raised on casseroles as a kid, and always am aghast when a person sneers, “I don’t like casseroles.” How can you not like casseroles? There are a gazillion casserole recipes out there, and while you may not have liked the tuna casserole your school cafeteria served, surely there are other types of casseroles using chicken, beef, vegetables, what have you, that you’d like. Must be from a bad childhood experience.

The site mentioned some of the Casserole Queens’ specialties: French Toast Casserole, Mamma Mia! Lasagna, Lunch Lady Doris’ Spicy Mac & Cheese, World’s Greatest Chicken Pie, and Corn Dog Casserole. Zowie… those dishes all sound delicious to me.

I didn’t immediately see the recipes for any of these posted, but I’ll explore their website later in the week.

A news video about the Casserole Queens:

Now I need to get back to the non-entertainment realities of what I care about. But it was a bit of a mini-vacation to let the world slip away and think about Kourtney, Miley, and casseroles. And to feel the sadness and regret of Rebecca Schaeffer’s bright, promising life being cut too short.
