Govdelivery: Obama’s Spam Service for Unsolicited Axelrod Emails on ObamaCare, Taxpayer-Funded (video)

Email spam on health care coming out of Obama White House was sent by Govdelivery, Obama's email service
Does this White House administration ever tell the truth?
Sunlight is the best disinfectant when exposing and cleansing lies and corruption. In the latest revealed lie from Obama’s administration, with the hot, white light of public scrutiny bearing down, it must be high noon.
Seems like just last week that White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs was getting quite testy, almost indignant, with reporter Major Garrett about these unsolicited emails from Senior Advisor David Axelrod, saying the administration would never send spam and that the White House knew nothing about it.
The White House had repeatedly told the press last week that “outside sources” (translation: conservatives, outside agitators, and all others who don’t want socialized health care forced on Americans, a GOP-driven effort) were to blame for this unsolicited spamming. Which was an obvious lie. Again.
It is illegal to send spam, even for the president and his team to do so. Living in the White House is not living above the law.
And, to top it all off, we paid for the spam. Yum.
From Patterico’s Pontifications:
White House Hired Govdelivery to Send Emails
August 23, 2009In a stunning about face, the Obama Administration admitted it hired a private communications company, Govdelivery, to send unsolicited emails from David Axelrod in support of ObamaCare. Govdelivery reportedly handles 85% of federal agencies’ emails. The Axelrod emails were apparently paid for with public funds.
During the past two weeks, the White House denied it sent unsolicited emails and then claimed outside political groups had placed names on a distribution list. Apparently the White House now concedes it hired a firm to spam American households about ObamaCare.
Snippet from Hot Air:
Frankly, the White House is making this a lot worse by trying to pass the buck. As far as I know, spam e-mails wouldn’t break the law, although it would make the administration look cheesy enough, and that effect has already occurred. They’re turning an embarrassment into an indictment of their integrity and honesty. The cover-up is always worse than the crime, and covering up a non-crime makes this administration look immature, petty, and bumbling.
Last week’s explanation/lie:
White House says it did send unwanted e-mails
Aug 17, 10:18 PM (ET)
By PHILIP ELLIOTTWASHINGTON (AP) – After insisting no one was receiving unsolicited e-mails from the White House, officials reversed their story Monday night and blamed outside political groups for the unwanted messages from the tech-savvy operation.
White House online director Macon Phillips said in a blog posting that independent groups – he didn’t name them – had signed up their members to receive regular White House updates about Obama’s projects, priorities and speeches.
The White House had consistently denied that anyone who hadn’t sought the e-mails had received them.
“It has come to our attention that some people may have been subscribed to our e-mail lists without their knowledge – likely as a result of efforts by outside groups of all political stripes – and we regret any inconvenience caused by receiving an unexpected message,” Phillips wrote.
“We’re certainly not interested in anyone receiving e-mails from the White House who don’t want them. That’s one reason why we have never – and will never – add names from a commercial or political list to the White House list,” he wrote.
The quasi-apology came hours after the top Republican on the House’s oversight committee, Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., asked the White House about its ambitious e-mail plan, which included a message from top political adviser David Axelrod urging support for a health care overhaul.
Issa also asked White House counsel Greg Craig whether officials were collecting names of the president’s critics.
Video encore… here’s the video from last week with Gibbs getting testy with Major Garrett and denying that the Obama administration would ever send out unsolicited emails:

The law: In 2003, Congress enacted the Controlling the Assault of Non-Solicited Pornography and Marketing (CAN-SPAM) Act to curb spam. As required by the Act, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) adopted rules that prohibit sending unwanted commercial e-mail messages to wireless devices without prior permission. This ban took effect in March 2005. In addition, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) adopted detailed rules that restrict sending unwanted commercial e-mail messages to computers.

I would pay real money to see Dana Perino and Robert Gibbs go head to head on responses to reporter’s questions. (Tony Snow would have torn Gibbs apart).
Dana would destroy him.
Gibbs is an embarrassment.
He looks like a muppet, and appears to have the same mentality.
