Texas Rangers Sent to Secure Texas-Mexico Border Because DHS Head Napolitano Has Ignored Escalating Border Violence
Posted By Vicki McClure Davidson on September 11, 2009

Even though illegal immigration has dropped because of the US recession, violence at the southern borders has escalated, especially with Mexican drug gangs.
Just this week it was announced that Department of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano has been busy with approving and spending a gigantic amount of money—$3.4 billion of taxpayers’ money—on a spanking-new Homeland Security headquarters building. To which Napolitano told reporters, “It will help us hold meetings.”
I would hope SO. For that kind of serious money, you should be able to do much more than hold meetings.
Don’t know how much of that $3.4 billion could have instead been used to secure the nation’s southern border. With enough leftover to then also build a new DHS HQ, perhaps?
It’s a tough call, I know, Janet. What to do, what to do… spend money on those new drapes or on national security? God forbid that our Department of Homeland Security would, well, you know, actually focus on the security of the American homeland and its unsecured borders.
It must be really HAAAAARD being in charge of Homeland Security.
From Associated Press:
Texas governor sends Rangers to Mexico border
Perry accuses federal government of failing to ‘adequately secure’ zone
September 11, 2009
HOUSTON – Special teams of Texas Rangers will be deployed to the Texas-Mexico border to deal with increasing violence because the federal government has failed to address growing problems there, Gov. Rick Perry said Thursday.“It is an expansive effort with the Rangers playing a more high-profile role than they’ve ever played before,” Perry said of the Department of Public Safety’s elite investigative unit.
The forces, dubbed “Ranger recon” teams, are the latest effort “to fill the gap that’s been left by the federal government’s ongoing failure to adequately secure our international border with Mexico,” he said.
The governor early this year asked Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano for 1,000 National Guard troops and renewed his call last month in a letter to President Barack Obama. The request is bogged down over who will pay for the troops and how they will be deployed.
‘Boots on the ground’
Perry’s announcement Thursday comes amid increasing border violence, particularly in El Paso, mostly involving people with ties to Mexican drug gangs.
“They’ll be deployed to high-traffic, high-crime areas along the border,” he said. “They’ll give us boots on the ground, put people in these hot spots no matter what or where they may exist.”
Perry said the effort also would focus on remote areas where farmers and ranchers have complained of being overrun by smugglers and gangs from Mexico in numbers that also overwhelm local law enforcement and border patrol officers.
“Washington is shortchanging them, not giving them the support they need,” Perry said. “As a result, we’re having to dedicate our resources to deal with the challenges we have along the Texas-Mexico border and ensuing issues that porous border has created all across state of Texas.”
He said the state would pick up the tab of $110 million, allocated by the Legislature in the past two sessions.
Perry’s announcement drew immediate criticism from U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, who is running against the two-term incumbent in the March GOP primary.
“Today’s announcement is yet another empty election-year promise from Rick Perry on border security,” Hutchison spokesman Joe Pounder said.
Perry fired back that it was the “height of hypocrisy for someone who’s been in Washington, D.C., for 16 years, who’s had the opportunity to help Texas on our border security, and they’ve been no more successful in delivering the resources and help.”
“So please do that job up there first before you come down here and start criticizing about the state of Texas,” he said…
In addition to the escalating violence at our southern borders necessitating Texas Rangers being sent to secure our Texas-Mexico border, there are other elements to the growing problem that are not covered in this Associated Press news story.
Obama-appointed DHS head Janet Napolitano has been vocal about her belief that illegal aliens crossing into the United States from Canada are a far greater threat than illegal aliens from Mexico, despite evidence and statistics that prove otherwise. She is also confused about the illegality of illegal border crossings.
Also higher on Napolitano’s list of priorities and concerns are military veterans and conservatives, as America discovered last April. Click here and here for posts on the anti-conservative, anti-military DHS guide book issued this past spring to law enforcement officers through out the country. Click here, too, for Col. Oliver North’s critical essay about the discriminatory DHS report and how it maligns and disrespects our military. To read the actual DHS report, click here (PDF format, quite large, so be patient as it loads).
A portion of the DHS report, spearheaded by our misguided, anti-conservative DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano:
Rightwing extremism in the United States can be broadly divided into those groups, movements, and adherents that are primarily hate-oriented (based on hatred of particular religious, racial or ethnic groups), and those that are mainly anti-government, rejecting federal authority in favor of state or local authority, or rejecting government authority entirely. It may include groups and individuals that are dedicated to a single issue, such as opposition to abortion or immigration.
Through out the document, there are no specific targets or substantiated claims. Historical radicalism is brought up, but only if its rightwing. No leftwing radicalism or racism is included in the document from what I could glean. So, the message here is pretty clear: The Right is bad, the Left is good.
As I’ve written before, conservatives who are unemployed, underemployed, are returning military veterans, those who are against increased taxes, government waste, pork barrel spending, illegal aliens, abortions, gun control, and other related activities or beliefs all fall into the “radical” definition.
I’ve searched through the Homeland Security PDF file. The term “Christian” is in the report, but “Islam” and “Muslim” is not, nor any other religion. What in the heck is that about? Those murderous Somali pirates who held Captain Phillips at gunpoint for five days were Muslim… but my 74-year-old Christian mom with Parkinson’s disease who used to do charity work is an extremist? She’s a registered Democrat. Does that take her off the list as a potential terrorist, Homeland Security?
Janet Napolitano, you’re a disgrace for permitting this document to be written, for calling my family, my taxpaying friends, and my brave military “radicals” and “extremists.”
When she served as governor for the state of Arizona, Napolitano pretty much ignored the state’s growing illegal alien issue unless it was near election time. Then for a few days, she’d go through the “dog and pony show” motions of appearing concerned about the state’s safety, have photo ops of her signing important looking papers, and after a few days, all interest would slink back to its previous status quo. Which was pretty much zip, zilch, nada. This explains why Sheriff Joe Arpaio was such a thorn of contention to her, since the sheriff had the audacity to actually work to enforce illegal alien laws (much to the anger of activist groups like La Raza) and try to clean up the streets of the Greater Phoenix area.
Napolitano’s previous inactivity on Arizona’s border security is now national inactivity for border security. Thank God we have the Texas Rangers… and Janet will have a really cool, really expensive DHS building to hold her meetings in.
