All is OK with insults if 'no one died,' per liberal UK comedian Russell Brand

New, from Hollywood: the left-wing barometer of acceptability of insults: “No one died.”

Oh, those wacky celebrities… what WILL they think up next?

If “no one died,” then anything goes when insults are being flung or respectfulness is non-existent, according to UK liberal comedian Russell Brand. “If no one died,” all should be forgiven without muss or fuss. If “no one died,” being passionate and insulting on national television is acceptable, and to criticize it is silly and petty.

In nonpartisan fairness, Russell, I’m sure you agree that your “no one died” measuring stick applies to ALL people. Not just to flaming liberals like Kanye West. Or just when it occurs on MTV and you’re hosting.

Thanks, Russell. Although I doubt you have much pull in Washington (I doubt Nancy Pelosi even knows who you are… Barney Frank might). But if you did have any influence over the left-wing extremists in Congress or the media, that would take a lot of Republicans off the MSM hot seat, like Rep. Joe Wilson and Sarah Palin.

Wilson only uttered two words, both single-syllable words, “You lie!” during Obama’s health care pitch, versus the multi-sentence, malicious dissing West did to Taylor Swift during prime time TV. Therefore, I’d think Wilson would have accumulated more “leftist forgiveness points” than the presumably snockered West would. West went out of his way to insult and humiliate Swift by first taking away her mic and then launching his nasty tirade, whereas Wilson was caught up for a nanosecond in passionate frustration over the “mis-truths” being told by POTUS from the podium.

From MTV, Russell Brand Defends Kanye West’s VMA Tirade:

At the 2008 VMAs, not only was Russell Brand the show’s host, but he also was the most controversial figure of the night. This year, Brand may have returned as the night’s host, but someone he knew decided to relieve him of that second duty: Kanye West, who jumped onstage during Taylor Swift’s Best Female Video acceptance speech.

After the show, the comedian defended the Kanye’s behavior when he called into Ryan Seacrest’s radio show.

“We’re all people; these things are a bit silly. Calm down, no one died, it’s all right,” Brand said, adding that Kanye got “a little bit excited” over Swift’s win over Beyoncé. “Because in the past, I’ve made mistakes and done things a little bit daft, if I think someone has done things that I don’t agree with, I think, well, I’ve done things in the past that I’m not proud of.”

While Brand supported West’s nasty attack during Taylor’s acceptance speech, he said something that even Congressman Joe Wilson can’t use when being targetted by liberals:

But Brand did agree that Kanye may have picked the wrong person to target. “Taylor Swift’s a young kid, isn’t she? Yeah, you can’t make a pretty girl cry.”

Here’s the best part:

It was a mistake that Kanye tried to fix very quickly Sunday night, when he took to his blog to write out an apology to Swift and her mom. And Brand seemed to think that the blog post should count for something. “I think he’s already apologized, hasn’t he?”

Hear that, Pelosi, Reid, and Frank? If Kanye West is off the hook and forgiven because he maybe-sorta apologized in a blog (how heart warming!), then Rep. Joe Wilson should be off scot-free for his two-word outburst to Pres. Obama because he spoke to POTUS directly.

I disagree with Russell Brand. I wonder how he would feel if he was on the receiving end of Kanye West’s behaviour. There is no condoning what Kanye did to Taylor Swift.

  4. birdy says:

are you seriously comparing what happens at the vmas to the president addressing congress?

yeah… ok. ummmmmm…. did you take your pills today? if haven’t got any, you seriously need some.

  5. birdy says:

i seirously can’t even understand how you’re making a comparison. do you seriously think the world is made up of two teams: us and them? anyone that doesn’t fall in your category is automatically “them”, all grouped together and must all be the same?

    your logic is seriously flawed.
