Pres. Obama’s at it again…
Curses to those political blogs and FOX News and talk radio! If not for them, the ACORN child prostitution scandal would be barely a whimper and Van Jones would still be my radical, Communist go-to guy, my favorite czar…
This takes the cake (for this week, that is). More taxpayer-funded bailouts are potentially on the table… it’s “Newspaper Bailout, the Sequel.” It didn’t fly before, but it could now. Major left-wing newspapers that have dwindling readership are being considered again for taxpayer money. I’m suspicious of the “non-profit status” Obama is suggesting.

Obama open to newspaper bailout bill
By Michael O’Brien – 09/20/09The president said he is “happy to look at” bills before Congress that would give struggling news organizations tax breaks if they were to restructure as nonprofit businesses.
“I haven’t seen detailed proposals yet, but I’ll be happy to look at them,” Obama told the editors of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and Toledo Blade in an interview.
Sen. Ben Cardin (D-Md.) has introduced S. 673, the so-called “Newspaper Revitalization Act,” that would give outlets tax deals if they were to restructure as 501(c)(3) corporations. That bill has so far attracted one cosponsor, Cardin’s Maryland colleague Sen. Barbara Mikulski (D).
White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs had played down the possibility of government assistance for news organizations, which have been hit by an economic downturn and dwindling ad revenue.
In early May, Gibbs said that while he hadn’t asked the president specifically about bailout options for newspapers, “I don’t know what, in all honesty, government can do about it.”
Obama said that good journalism is “critical to the health of our democracy,” but expressed concern toward growing tends in reporting — especially on political blogs, from which a groundswell of support for his campaign emerged during the presidential election.
“I am concerned that if the direction of the news is all blogosphere, all opinions, with no serious fact-checking, no serious attempts to put stories in context, that what you will end up getting is people shouting at each other across the void but not a lot of mutual understanding,” he said.
Not to mention more embarrassment of exposed corruption from Obama-supported organizations that major newspapers have been deliberately complicit in not reporting. Dwindling readership isn’t just about the crappy economy, but lack of trust from a growing number of Americans.

Bail out the newspapers. incredible isn’t it? Make them non-profit, amazing.
But why not? Artists are willing to sell their souls to the administration. Why not journalists too?
The fun thing is that Obama will not be president forever and what happens to them when a non-marxist president is in charge?
You know Vicki, this story has been really interesting to me because we owned a newspaper.
When we sold it to a large chain, the government took 1/3 off the top! We worked hard to make that paper profitable and successful… the government did nothing but get in the way at every turn and then they come along and take 1/3 of what we sold it for!!!
If I go any further, I’m going to go off on a real tirade about that but suffice it to say,,, we got screwed as small business owners, big time!
Heartbreaking and frustrating story, Roxy. My kudos to you for having weathered it (sorta). This administration is beyond contempt. I’m confident that more Americans are getting a hefty dose of reality with each day’s revelations of what is going on in the White House.
Where was your newspaper? Years back, I worked in circulation at the AZ Republic and Phoenix Gazette. Newspapers have been struggling since television’s launch, and the Internet has wielded a huge nail in print media’s coffin. However, with fringe media trying to sell White House propaganda, it is obviously one of the main reasons for the current financial failings of so many major papers. Heck, why buy a newspaper if the news is ObamaNews only?
Our paper was in Nevada – about 55 miles west of Las Vegas.
