More Cockiness from WH: Energy Sec. Steven Chu Insults Americans, Compares to ‘Unruly Teenagers’ Needing Government As ‘Parents’ to Teach Them about Using Energy

Energy Secretary Steven Chu, you’re a smug, overbearing jackass. Looks like you didn’t get the memo that millions of Americans are mighty tired of pompous, spending-driven government elitist shills from the White House scornfully telling them how stupid they are. Wanting to send adults to bed without supper because, as the newly appointed Energy Secretary, you know what is better for us than we do and we had better not throw any “political temper tantrums.”

Or, like Pres. Obama, were you so wrapped up in your own climate-control-hoax agenda that you were unaware of (translation: dismissive of) the thousands upon thousands upon thousands of Americans who marched on the nation’s Capitol on September 12 in protest? It’s MUCH more than a “political temper tantrum,” as you, Dr. Chu, seem to think. Americans see that your “tax Americans to the grave” global warming agenda is pure bunk.

What unabashed hubris. In the wake of the exposé of the White House working with ACORN affiliates to use the NEA to push ObamaCare propaganda, this was NOT good timing for Dr. Chu to bitch slap the American public on climate change mandates or energy use.

How much longer until the 2010 elections?

Environmental Capitol, Wall Street Journal: Steven Chu: Americans Are Like ‘Teenage Kids’ When It Comes to Energy:

When it comes to greenhouse-gas emissions, Energy Secretary Steven Chu sees Americans as unruly teenagers and the Administration as the parent that will have to teach them a few lessons.
By Ian Talley
September 20, 2009

Speaking on the sidelines of a smart grid conference in Washington, Dr. Chu said he didn’t think average folks had the know-how or will to to change their behavior enough to reduce greenhouse-gas emissions.

“The American public…just like your teenage kids, aren’t acting in a way that they should act,” Dr. Chu said. “The American public has to really understand in their core how important this issue is.” (In that case, the Energy Department has a few renegade teens of its own.)

The administration aims to teach them—literally. The Environmental Protection Agency is focusing on real children. Partnering with the Parent Teacher Organization, the agency earlier this month launched a cross-country tour of 6,000 schools to teach students about climate change and energy efficiency.

“We’re showing people across the country how energy efficiency can be part of what they do every day,” said EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson. “Confronting climate change, saving money on our utility bills, and reducing our use of heavily-polluting energy can be as easy as making a few small changes.”

Still, Secretary Chu said he didn’t think that the public would throw the same political temper tantrum over climate legislation that has happened with the healthcare debate.

Asked if he expected a town-hall style pushback, Dr. Chu said he was optimistic the public would buy the administration’s arguments that energy efficiency and caps on greenhouse-gas emissions will spark an economic rebound.

“I don’t think so…maybe I’m optimistic, but there’s very little debate” that a new green energy economy will bring economic prosperity, Mr. Chu told reporters.

Don’t look now, but there’s actually quite a lot of debate as to the economic merits of the new green-energy economy. Whether that will spell a healthcare-style revolt against the energy and climate bill stewing in the Senate is another question.

An update: Energy Department spokesman Dan Leistikow added: “Secretary Chu was not comparing the public to teenagers. He was saying that we need to educate teenagers about ways to save energy. He also recognized the need to educate the broader public about how important clean energy industries are to our competitive position in the global economy. He believes public officials do have an obligation to make their case to the American people on major legislation, and that’s what he’s doing.”

So, we’re to believe that when Dr. Chu said that the American public is behaving just like teenage kids, that they aren’t acting in a way that they should act, he DIDN’T mean we are acting like misbehaving teenagers. Riiiiiiight…. damage control was a little late for Dr. Chu.

Excellent piece at NewsBusters, U.S. Media Ignoring About Face by Leading Global Warming Proponent… be sure to read it in its entirety:

Imagine if the Pope suddenly announced that the Catholic Church had been wrong for centuries about prohibiting priests from marrying. Would that be considered big news?

Of course.

And yet something like that has happened in the field of global warming in which a major scientist has announced that the world, in contrast to his previous belief, is actually cooling…

  1. AFVET says:

    It’s the SUN STUPID !
These people will continually attempt to dumb down the American People until the American People destroy their “dynasty”.

Knowledge is power, and the present administration is intent on blinding the American People to the extent of their efforts to run this country into the ground.

On another thread. Obama is NOT TAKING THE ADVICE OF HIS SENIOR OFFICER FOR TROOP LEVELS IN HIS THEATER OF COMMAND.

Obama is unqualified as CIC, way too arrogant.

We should pull out the ground troops, tell the taliban that the Air Force, and the Navy will be sending them some gifts.

I know, I’m dreaming but sometimes it’s good to dream.

Obama and his wife are absolutely the worst example of White House residents I have seen in my lifetime.
Both hate this country and are determined to kneecap it.

Sorry for venting and jumping subjects.

You always are welcomed here to vent, dear AFVET. And while I don’t agree with everything you wrote, I agree with a great deal of it.

      God bless America!

      :)

      • AFVET says:

        Admin, please define “everything”.

        I’m always up for definitions.
Hope I didn’t offend you, or your blog.
My intentions were far from that.

AFVET, you never offend me. dear man. I think what caused me pause was the “gift” statement. I know where you’re coming from on that, and I’m sure many readers agree with you, but it wasn’t something I would necessarily agree with. I’m open to consider it (and I know you were making a sarcastic joke), but I did wince a bit when I read it. My dad often sends me emails with controversial rhetoric, more extreme conservatism, that I don’t agree with, but that’s OK. My dad feels that way and I don’t. He and I see eye to eye on at least 90 percent of what is going on.

No worries – please, ALWAYS speak your mind here, and conservative venting (not statist venting, however) is definitely allowed. We’ll never agree 100 percent on everything, nor should we expect to. Debate is healthy (except when attempted by foul-mouthed, socialist-loving Obama-bots who think debate means screaming “racist” or “Bush was Hitler!” if there is disagreement). Conservatives are not in lock-step on everything, as statists seem to think. Your comments are always so appreciated… so passionate, so honest, so patriotic. You have a unique view on America that adds so much to this site.

Please don’t try to appease me (except for following my handful of rules), because your opinions are valued, and they are far more important than you trying to second guess my reactions. I’m not important in this. For the most part, I’m merely providing a haven, a cafe for conservatives (and a few nasty liberal trolls who pop in with regularity), to discuss or comment on the issues of our country without being attacked by liberal hate-mongerers, one of many such sites popping up in the blogosphere. I appreciate you and your faithful readership tremendously.

Bless you, AFVET, and God bless America!

My diatribes may seem like I want to disagree with you. NOT !
I learned to be assertive many years ago, not arrogant, but assertive.

I appreciate your blog as do many others.
You have an excellent forum, and should be proud of it.

BTW,… Sarah spoke in China !

I’ll be waiting to see the left wing swing on her speech.

        LET FREEDOM RING !

      • admin says:

        God bless Sarah!

I’ve heard she did really great in China… oops, that info came from an international press media source. Gotta wait for the “we hate that Alaskan hick Palin” rewrite to be regurgitated from the elitist East Coast press corps.

And AFVET, I’ve never felt your comments were anything but passionate and honest and forthright. In the end, truth wins out, right?

      • AFVET says:

        Right.
        You go Sarah.
Here she is in China, making headlines again with the LWM.

Bless her heart, she will not give up, she will never say die, she is on a mission for her country.
