Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi is trying again to push legislative vote before House of Representatives can READ it

UPDATE, NOVEMBER 7, 2009: Promises? Promises? Don’t be so naive, America… this is the “hopenchange” administration… we’ll do what we always do: lie through our teeth, break the promise, apologize as sincerely as we can, then do it again. Lie, smile, repeat…

In a logical, fair, “gee, that makes sense” administration, H.Res.554 would not even be necessary. But in this administration, Democrat Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has ignored the request/demand of many congressional members to be able for them to have possession of the legislation before the vote so as to be able to actually READ it before voting. And to make it available for three days for Americans to read it in advance on the Internet so that they, too, are informed about the contents. Open, transparent administration… NOT.

Crikey, this woman is a runaway train of a nightmare.

Pelosi, are you paying attention? Because American voters certainly are.

And the citizens are beyond angry.

From The Weekly Standard:

A Novel Idea: Give Congress a Chance to Read Legislation Before Voting On It

Speaker Nancy Pelosi promised the most “honest, most open and most ethical Congress in history.” Shouldn’t an institution committed to those lofty ideals give its members the chance to read legislation before voting on it?

We might find out the answer soon.

A bipartisan effort is underway to force a vote on a resolution (H.Res. 554) requiring the House to give members 72-hours to review legislation before casting a final vote. Speaker Pelosi has not allowed the measure to come to the floor and a bipartisan group of lawmakers (Greg Walden, R-Ore., and Brian Baird, D-Wash.), are trying to get enough signatures on a discharge petition to force and up or down vote on the measure.

When Congress acts without reading legislation, surprises often turn up later. House Republican Leader John Boehner said this today about the 72-hour bill:

The American people are angry that Speaker Pelosi didn’t allow the public and their elected representatives to read the trillion-dollar ‘stimulus’ bill or the national energy tax before they were rammed through the House. They have every right to be angry. Look at the results. We’ve lost more than 2.5 million jobs since the ‘stimulus’ bill passed, and yet after the fact we found that it included nearly a million dollars for Rep. Murtha’s ‘airport for no one.’ Months after House Democrats passed Speaker Pelosi’s national energy tax, we learned of a secret Obama Administration analysis showing such a ‘cap-and-trade’ scheme will raise costs for American families by an average of $1,700 a year.

“Congress can, and must, do better. That’s why I’m proud to support this bipartisan effort to bring greater accountability and transparency to how Congress spends the taxpayers’ hard-earned money. I urge my colleagues, on both sides of the aisle to do the same by signing the discharge petition.”

Discharging a committee is rare. Doing so requires gathering 218 congressional signatures. And signing such a petition is considered a hostile act against the majority party leadership. So the prospects for H.Res. 554 –- the read before you vote measure –- are bleak.

Too bad. Seems like the most open and ethical Congress in history might want to do something this historic.

From The Patriot’s Mind: Congress’ Secret Plan to Ram Through Government Health Care:

I learned today that this legislation could be hidden in an amendment to the unrelated TARP bill, and would be set up to quickly approve a health care takeover without debate; let alone reading and analyzing of new health care legislation. (Sounds just like the transparent ‘Hope & Change’ baloney America voted for?)

Pelosi will not allow the vote to come to the floor.
The left wing agenda is diabolical. They are now realizing that the American People are on to them, and are shoving every obstacle they can think of into our path toward taking our country back.

Pelosi is a menace to the country, along with Frank, Rangel, Conyers, Kerry, et.al.

Malkin has the videos of the indoctrination of elementary students chanting Obama chants concerning ” red yellow black and white, all are equal in Obama’s sight”.

    WHAT !!!

This is just way too much and over the top for America.

Wake up folks, your Liberty is being stolen from you by a thief in the night.

    • admin says:

What??? Those lyrics are from my Sunday School days of “Jesus Loves the Little Children”, with Obama’s name switched out with Jesus’ name.
I’ve not yet heard or seen the video, but that is a blatant ripoff of one of my favorite Christian songs. It’s still being sung in a number of churches. Did they rip off the melody, too?

      Do I smell COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT???

Thanks for the heads up, AFVET.

    • AFVET says:

A minor correction to my above comment….

“red yellow black and white, all are equal in his sight”.

There is no indication at this time that the word “his” was in caps, although it sounds ominously like phrases I read in the Bible.

      • admin says:

In the original version from church, the word “precious” was used instead of “equal.”

Still, it’s pretty darned close to ripping off a song about MY MESSIAH to sing about the Democrats’ Messiah… creepy and blasphemous, among other things.

        • AFVET says:

I don’t care where the tune came from, it is indoctrination of the young minds of the students in our PUBLIC SCHOOL SYSTEM THAT WE PAY FOR WHETHER WE LIKE IT OR NOT.

Note to parents,… talk to your kids and find out what they are being taught, and if you don’t agree with it, say something. The schools are using YOUR MONEY ! You have a voice whether you want to use it or not.

They’re your children and their future is in your hands.
