There has been quite a stir in cyberspace with fans of Conan O’Brien seeking information about his status following a head injury that occurred yesterday while O’Brien was filming a stunt for The Tonight Show.
From New York Times, Media Decoder:
NBC’s “Tonight” show was forced to broadcast a repeat rather than its regularly scheduled first-run show Friday night after the star, Conan O’Brien, hit his head while attempting a stunt during the show’s taping.
Mr. O’Brien could not continue with the show and was taken away for medical attention. NBC issued a brief statement saying only that Mr. O’Brien had “hit his head doing a stunt and the show was not finished.”
No other details were released. One staff member on the show said Mr. O’Brien was expected to be fine and it was likely he would be back to work on Monday.
NBC also released a statement attributed to Mr. O’Brien, which said, “Last thing I remember I was enjoying the play with Mrs. Lincoln and the next thing I knew I was in bed being served cookies and juice.”
So, it looks like the Big Guy is going to be fine, thank goodness.
In tribute to the irreverent, late-night TV funnyman, I rounded up a few classic Conan O’Brien video clips, some from his current The Tonight Show hosting, others from his previous talk show, Late Night with Conan O’Brien. Some chortles for a Saturday morning…
Here’s a snippet of an interview Conan O’Brien conducted back in 2006 with Sen. Barack Obama.
O’Brien fans will recall that this merriment about Finland escalated over many months, including the comparison of O’Brien looking a great deal like Tarja Halonen, Finland’s female president. The resemblance was strong and rather creepy, and Conan milked it for laughs week after week. Conan has a surprisingly huge fan base among college students and young adults in the small country, and for months, he did many comedic commentaries and skits about Finland.
In early 2006, O’Brien and his crew traveled to Finland and filmed a fascinating special (more respectful than most had thought it would be) about the country and its people. O’Brien ultimately met Finland’s president, and despite his countless jokes and spoofs about Pres. Halonen during the previous months, he was noticeably nervous.
This video clip below is one of the first that started the wacky Finland craze on O’Brien’s show.
