Chicago residents will end up paying hefty portion of city's Olympics bill

I wrote about this back in July… no one, however, in Chicago’s government is listening, and neither is Oprah:

And it was only last month that Chicago was forced to shut down for a day… lack of city money, doncha know: Stimulus/Porkulus in Chicago… Running Out of Money, City Closed for Business to Save

City officials are running with their heads down like angry billy goats to make this overbloated, overindulgent, horrifically expensive event happen to economically distressed Chicago. “Happen,” as in “Zowie, look at how much we’re going to need to raise taxes to pay for all this! We need BILLIONS and BILLIONS more than we thought!”

Should Chicago Get the Olympics in 2016? | September 2009

In Chicago, a reported 84% of the city’s residents do not want the 2016 Summer Olympic Games — they don’t want to get stuck with the bill like other cities that hosted the Olympics have been stuck. Twitter: “No Games Rally” Information.

A huge protest is planned for today at City Hall — Tuesday, September 29, 2009. 5:30 pm @ City Hall in Chicago (121 N. LaSalle).

LET THE INTERNATIONAL OLYMPIC COMMITTEE KNOW THAT CHICAGOANS DO NOT WANT THE OLYMPIC GAMES.

The City of Chicago currently has a $500 million budget gap. Chicago public schools are being closed and the CTA is crumbling. The city is staggering from one budget crisis to the next – and the Mayor’s Office is already predicting that the 2010 budget will be worse than 2009.

Meanwhile, Chicago’s City Council has put the taxpayers on the hook for any cost overruns that would occur if the city gets the Olympics. And Olympics and cost overruns go hand in hand. Currently, the City of Vancouver, host of the 2012 Winter Olympics is on the hook for $6 billion in Olympics cost overruns – which may bankrupt the city. The 2012 Summer Games in London are 4-times over budget, with a total bill of at least $20 billion.
