Why Did FEMA Award $1 Million ‘Fire Prevention’ Grant to ACORN?

Posted By Vicki McClure Davidson on September 29, 2009

Just breaking, September 29, 2009 — exclusive to Big Government… more audacious, outrageous financing of ACORN, using taxpayer monies… the indiscriminate amounts of our tax money being thrown into the gaping maw of this criminal organization must stop.

And what kind of fire prevention does a community organizing group do, exactly? Other recipients of this FEMA fire prevention grant have been, well, legitimate fire departments or medical facilities. I’m stymied as to where ACORN fits in there, fire protection-wise, but I’m no expert, like Janet Napolitano, our illustrious director of Homeland Security. I’m sure she’d be able to explain it. FEMA is part of her department’s responsibilities, and therefore, any grant money awarded by FEMA would be, too.

More corruption being smoked out here, methinks… maybe the million smackeroos from the Federal Emergency Management Agency will be used to help put out all the “scandal fires” that are popping up with this organization. Cough, *scammers*, cough…

If this was for legitimate fire prevention, which has been been DOCUMENTED to be worth $1 million and is proven that the federal grant actually went to pay for fire prevention, there should be no problem with the grant. But with the floodgates of corruption opening wider each day with ACORN, yeah, color me skeptical.

I’m bettin’ even Smokey the Bear would not go for this ACORN campaign poster:

  1. Adam Bayes says:

Actually, FP&S grants are for education purposes, not actual firefighting. If you look on FEMA’s website, or specifically, http://www.firegrantssupport.com/fps , you’ll see that ACORN could have legitimately used the funds for awareness campaigns in the “high risk populations” they serve. Directly from the site, it reads:

The primary goal is to target high-risk populations and mitigate high incidences of death and injury. Examples of the types of projects supported by FP&S include fire prevention and public safety education campaigns, juvenile firesetter interventions, media campaigns, and arson prevention and awareness programs.

Please do your research before publicly speculating about illegitimate use of federal funds.

You ignored that I wrote that if this WAS used for legitimate purposes outlined in the grant, that would be fine and dandy. But with ACORN’s escalating corruption being exposed, of bold-faced lies and efforts to take over the entire state of Oklahoma being uncovered, me speculating that there is a likelihood that this grant was not used properly carries significant water. But you go right ahead and defend ACORN, if that makes you feel better.

Be sure that you also contact Washington, DC, because members of Congress, too, see this as a problem.

      From Sen. Vitter:
“With fire departments all over Louisiana – and the rest of the country – struggling to make ends meet and get the equipment and training they need to protect their local communities, the idea of a million dollar grant going to ACORN is unsettling, to say the least.

I’ve had grave reservations about ACORN for some time, and over the past year we’ve seen numerous examples of serious allegations of wrongdoing on the part of this organization and its employees across the country. I simply can’t see the logic behind diverting much needed funding from worthy fire departments to this organization.”
