COPENHAGEN — The Olympics were awarded to a South American city for the first time when the International Olympic Committee on Friday voted for Rio de Janeiro to be host of the 2016 Games.
Rio de Janeiro was the winner over Madrid in the final round of voting. The committee delivered an unexpectedly early knockout blow to Chicago, which was eliminated in the first round. Tokyo was ousted in the second.

Breaking…Chicago was eliminated in the first round of IOC voting.
It looks like Dr. Utopia and Oprah fell flat on their faces. We’re hearing the IOC voting members thought Oprah, in particular, was quite obnoxious, pushy, and overbearing in her dealings with IOC members.
And the big joke around the IOC was that a new sport at the Chicago Games would have been “corruption”, not rugby or golf.

O NO!! CHICAGO LOSES 2016 OLYMPICS
COPENHAGEN, Denmark (CBS) ―Despite four years, millions of dollars in planning and a last-ditch pitch from President Obama, the Chicago 2016 Olympic bid ultimately fell short.
The City of Chicago was eliminated in the first round of voting, before any host city was selected.
An expert called it the “biggest shock in IOC history.”
Tokyo was also eliminated in the first round.
Even the president’s star billing wasn’t enough to put Chicago over the top in what some experts said was the tightest race for the Games in its history.
The contest lasted four years and endured several stumbling blocks. But many believed that when President Barack Obama elected to go to Copenhagen to deliver the closing remarks of Chicago’s final presentation, the move would seal the deal to send the games to Chicago. But the president’s pitch couldn’t sway enough votes.

…It is a shame that Chicago did not get a chance to put its Olympic ideas into practice. It would be a greater shame, now that the city has lost its bid, if these ideas withered on the vine instead of flowering, as they should.
On Wednesday, anticipating that Chicago might get the nod from the International Olympic Committee, I took the Chicago Transit Authority’s Green Line from the Loop down to the 51st Street station, a few blocks from the stadium site in Washington Park.
The greeting I got there was not pretty: cracked sidewalks, broken glass, vacant lots strewn with trash, a couple of thriving businesses, like a crowded barbershop, but just as many boarded-up storefronts.
If the Olympics had come to Chicago, there would have been a full court press to spruce up the area, just as Mayor Richard M. Daley pushed to give the Near West Side new parks, streets and housing, not to mention yard upon yard of imitation wrought-iron fencing, before the 1996 Democratic National Convention.
Now, that station represents in microcosm the challenge confronting post-Olympics Chicago.
It’s all about whether Chicago can transform its grand defeat on the international stage into a back-to-basics victory on the home front, taking the best ideas from its Olympic quest and carrying them forward to make a better city and better lives.

Valerie Jarret just watched millions of dollars slip through her hands, meaning she could get out from under the flea-bag apartments her crooks run. She owns the real estate that was going to be used for the “Olympic Village”.
Obama’s corruptness is starting to catch up with him.
The American People are alive and well and stronger than ever.

More than 80 percent of the residents did NOT want this overbloated event there, since they would have been stuck with the billions of dollars it would cost. I just heard that from the 1970s, Japan (I think it was Japan) finally paid off its Olympics bill this year. Crikey… that’s all that poor Chicago would need in addition to its other fiscal problems.
I find it disgusting to think that we’ve got a runaway spending program, 2 massive spending bills before congress, and an economy that’s circling the drain, and THIS is what the President is spending his time and expense accounts on.
