Michael Moore: Hollywood Hypocrite, with Tanking Film “Capitalism: A Love Story”
Posted By Vicki McClure Davidson on October 5, 2009
Michael Moore is a blowhard, left-wing hypocrite. Anyone in Hollywood who has made millions of dollars from making films, thanks to the capitalist system in America, then rants against American capitalists in yet another film is simply a calculating phony. A RICH, calculating phony.
Kinda like a grotesquely rotund person who eats too much, who then makes a film mocking and maligning other people who eat too much… that about right, Mikey?
He’ll say just about anything for a buck. This time, it looks like it backfired. Funny how people who have a few dollars extra to spend in this tanking economy would not want to spend those scant dollars to see a film that attacks the very system that permitted them to make an honorable living… a film that honors a fascist/Communist system that has made millions of people’s lives miserable.
Moore, a wealthy socialist and America basher (more precisely, a Bush basher), has been accused of playing loose with facts in his other films.
So, yes, these write-ups from over the weekend on Moore’s latest film, Capitalism: A Love Story, bombing did make me snicker… what goes around, comes around. His film’s title is misleading… should be Capitalism: A Hate Story, But I Got Filthy Rich Off It, So Bugger Off.
From Deadline Hollywood: Hollywood Mixes Zombies & Comedy For $25M Hit; ‘Capitalism’ Will Be Michael Moore’s Worst Performer Since 2002:
Michael Moore’s purposefully controversial and politically polarizing documentary Capitalism: A Love Story was distributed by Overture Films and wound up in 7th place. It went wide into 962 theaters this weekend after opening on September 23rd in a limited release of 4 theaters. The pic about the financial crisis made $1.6M Friday and $2M Saturday (+33%) for a $4.8M weekend and $5.2M cume. Just for comparison purposes: Moore’s most recent Sicko did $4.4 mil its opening weekend from only 441 theaters (and that was with him guesting on The Tonight Show and announcing he’d been subpoenaed by the Bush administration for the health care documentary). And his Fahrenheit 9/11 did $23.9M its opening weekend from 868 venues.) So, as much as the left loves Moore, and the right detests him, and he always uses the ensuing controversy to self-promote, the money angle is only what interests me. The fact is that Capitalism: A Love Story looks like its domestic total will fail to crack $20M and end up his worst performing film since his Oscar-winner Bowling For Columbine in 2002.
From John Nolte, Big Hollywood: Socialism and Christian-Bashing Crash at Box Office:
Tough times for leftie Hollywood. Nothing’s gone right this week. None of this is their fault, of course. In order to understand that it might not be a good idea to rally around a child rapist, bash religion in a religious country, or trash capitalism in a capitalist country, you have to live in the real world…
From Another Black Conservative: Capitalist Pig Michael Moore Fails To Gorge Himself At Box Office Trough:
Is anyone really surprised? It is pretty damn hard to get past the irony of someone telling you Capitalism is evil while at the same time getting stinking rich in the process. When it comes to bashing capitalism, Michael Moore has a credibility factor of zero.
“Michael Moore is a paradox. A millionaire who boasts of wealth as proving his value — “I’m a millionaire, I’m a multi-millionaire. I’m filthy rich. You know why I’m a multi-millionaire? ‘Cause multi-millions like what I do. That’s pretty good, isn’t it?”
He lives in a million-dollar apartment, and boasts of that as well. “I walk among them. I live on the island of Manhattan, a three-mile-wide strip of land that is luxury home and corporate suite to America’s elite….. Those who run your life live in my neighborhood. I walk in the streets with them each day” (Michael Moore, Stupid White Men, p. 51). For vacations, he keeps another million-dollar beachfront house in Michigan.
“You would think that he’s the ultimate common man. But he’s money-obsessed,” said one associate.
He sends his child to a private school — no sense associating with the working class — and has some trouble associating with them himself. The New York Post reported on a tantrum he threw in London: “Then, on his second-to-last night, [Michael Moore] raged against everyone connected with the Roundhouse and complained that he was being paid a measly $750 a night. ‘He completely lost the plot,’ a member of the stage crew told the London Evening Standard. ‘He stormed around all day screaming at everyone, even the 5 pound-an-hour bar staff, telling them how we were all con men and useless. Then he went on stage and did it in public.’ At his last appearance, staffers refused to work or even open the theater’s doors.” NY Post, Jan. 8, 2003.

His major themes are his status as the spokesman of the working class, the evils of capitalism, and the selfishness of (all other) Americans.
It would be easy to denounce Moore as a hypocrite. Many conservatives denounce him as a leftist, when in fact the serious left, the thinking left, generally finds him appalling. He is the latest in the modern breed of Limousine Leftists — individuals who, while personally they share the values of 19th century robber barons, find it flattering to adopt a thin veneer of leftism as a pose, in the same manner they pick a flattering hair style or gown. (A left-leaning critic of Moore summed up the situation very nicely: Moore’s appeal lies in his giving wealthy, over-educated, whites an opportunity to laugh at working-class whites.)
From Scared Monkeys: Michael Moore’s Movie “Capitalism” Tanks at Box Office … Blame it on Capitalism:
File this one under the category of it couldn’t happen to a better person. Michael Moore’s latest pro-socialist Commie movie, “Capitalism,” tanks at the box office. Define irony, a movie by Moore called “Capitalism” that is anti-capitalist that fails miserably due to true capitalism … the ability of “We the People” to determine what we want by voting with the wallets.

Michael Moore... left-wing hypocrite who'd prefer you didn't realize he's a millionaire because of capitalism
