Our special Dunce Award goes to... Illinois Sen. Dick Durbin for arrogant retaliation and suppression of free speech on Illinois radio station

Hey, Senator Durbin, can I straighten out that dunce cap for you?

Democrat Sen. Dick Durbin must be forgetting that America is not Cuba or Venezuela or any other third-world banana republic where all the news must be screened and approved first by the government… maybe he’s experiencing a “senior moment” instead of a “socialist moment.” Freedom of speech? What freedom of speech?

How dare an Illinois news radio station REPORT THE NEWS! Durbin’s demagoguery is smug and tyrannical… but hey, HE’S A DEMOCRAT, SO IT’S OK if he tries to silence the press and hide out from his constituents. Because avoiding real discussion on ObamaCare is the modus operandi of most of the Democrat party. (Not all, thank goodness.)

Cramming ObamaCare down Americans’ throats is more difficult if you act like you’re LISTENING to the majority of your state’s registered voters. Avoidance is key, Dick, so KEEP IT UP. And that should be OK with all those ungrateful, whiny Illinoisans who won’t be quiet. They don’t want the government micromanaging their health care and health care options and they don’t want to pay for illegal aliens’ health care, but tough toenails to that… because OBAMA WON.

And if you don’t agree with Durbin blacklisting a radio station and avoiding grassroots citizens in Illinois to discuss nationalized health care… well, then, you’re a RAAAAACIST!

OK, OK… I’m sure many of you know that Durbin isn’t black or Asian or Latino… he’s an older white guy. But, I’ll bet dollars to donuts that somehow not agreeing with this Durbin fool, this older-white-guy statist knucklehead, since he’s a liberal Democrat and his kingdom is ILLINOIS, land of Obama, can be twisted by other liberal Democrats to being racist. Especially if you’re white. Liberals LOVVVVVVVE pulling out the racist card when faced with problems or issues they don’t want to address, so why not pull it out for older-white-guy Durbin? Seems like a perfect opportunity to pull that racist card as a diversion, since Durbin appears to really be stepping on the US Constitution here by blacklisting a radio station for broadcasting the truth, plus looking like a smarmy, cowardly DC weasel by wanting to avoid anything but grinning, cherry-picked, ObamaCare-Koolaid-swilling supporters.

For the record, Sen. Durbin is also one of the senators who voted to protect ACORN’s federal funding. Of course he did, silly… it’s what all the obedient left-wing extremist congressional officials did. No, we are not surprised about this pompous dunce’s actions to silence the press (unless, it’s the liberal fringe media).

He may have also signed the “Free Child Rapist Roman Polanski” petition for all we know. Maybe, maybe not…

From Publius, Big Government: Sen. Durbin ‘Blacklists’ Home-State Radio Station:

Arrogance, thy name is Sen. Dick Durbin. Big Government contributor Bob Gough has a breaking story at his news site, Quincy News.org. It seems Sen. Durbin is upset that a local media outlet informed the public that their Senator was going to be in town to discuss health care.

A spokesman for U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D-Illinois) has said the senator’s office will no longer send media information to Quincy’s oldest radio station.

Mike Moyers, general manager/vice president of STARadio Corporation, which owns WTAD-AM (930), said Christina Angarola of Durbin’s Chicago office called WTAD on Monday to inform them they would no longer be included on the list of those receiving news releases from the senator when he plans to visit West-Central Illinois.

Moyers said Angarola was not pleased that WTAD chose to make public the time and place of Durbin’s September 4th visit to Quincy’s Blessing Hospital to hold a meeting on health care with officials from the hospital, Quincy Medical Group and politicians Quincy Mayor John Spring and State Senator John Sullivan (D-Rushville).

The news release sent by Durbin’s office on the afternoon of September 3rd said “NOTE: The times and locations of these events are for media planning purposes only and should not be published or aired in any form.”

Angarola did not respond to an e-mail from QuincyNews.org for comment.

Moyers said he believed it was important for the public to have the opportunity to approach Durbin on the health care issue when he was in Quincy, regardless of the directive in the e-mail.

“I’m disappointed the senator and his office have chosen to silence the press,” Moyers said.

    Hi Vicki,
I found your blog following some semi-political link and liked the introduction (frugality ‘n all). I agree with many of your points, but don’t agree with the misinformation about socialized medicine that you include on your blog. I grew up under socialized medicine and I can tell you that none of the scare tactics used by opponents of the health care reform apply to it. My 23-year-long experience with socialized medicine (in a formerly socialist European country) was that of no lines, no waiting, no rationing, no restrictions on doctors, procedures, etc.

However, after immigrating to the US years ago, I encountered all of these sad phenomena, instituted and cultivated by the private insurance industry. Plus the exorbitant costs of medical care, which may or may not be covered by your insurance — after all, it’s a casino-style health “care” where your insurance can drop you at any time for any reason (been there, done that).

Stunningly (to me, but not only), the US has the only health “care” in the world that actively avoids sick people and makes profits off human suffering. I cannot imagine rational, patriotic Americans defending the existing system, which is inhumane, unsustainable and about to bankrupt us all. I wish we could go beyond the propagation of scare tactics and actually did focus on what is best for the country and its people. And it is certainly not the status quo.

BTW, I can tell you that what Obama is proposing in his health care reform is nowhere near what one can reasonably call socialized medicine. This is another distortion that has no relation to reality (that of socialized medicine).

You make some salient points, but I stand by what I’ve extensively researched. Additionally, since no cohesive plan has yet been presented to the American people for review, only bits and pieces, it is still impossible to say what the final proposed government-run health care plan will or will not be. I can only go on what is ongoing in the draft provision, which continues to be altered and new taxes and mandates added and subtracted.

Government-run health care has more minuses against it than pluses for it. At this stage of the game, I believe trusting that the government will do “the right thing” is patently naive. In forcing its citizens to participate, to pay for those who don’t participate (i.e., illegal aliens) IS socialized. In your previous country, were illegal aliens covered and did you as a citizen pay for their health care benefits? If you chose to NOT be a part of the government’s plan, were there serious repercussions against you, as in huge penalties and jail time? Were you not allowed to withdraw once it was implemented, and instead pay out of pocket for just yourself and/or family? All these are part of a socialist system, and have been revealed to be a portion of the current health care plan Congress/Obama are crafting. Not scare tactics, but confirmed realities. In all my years with different employers, with different health plans, I have never been dropped at any time for any reason. Ever. I have also been without health care insurance quite happily for a number of years, paying out of pocket for my family of four. These were my choices, my freedom. ObamaCare will take that freedom away. With any insurance, there is risk, and as that risk increases, so do the costs… whether it is in the private sector or with a government-run system.

I don’t want the government in charge of my health care, period. My body, my choice… and with the many government screw-ups as of late (cash for clunkers cost taxpayers a tremendous amount of money for a small, temporary, artificial spike in the economy). The inefficiencies of our current system can be resolved and reformed. Rather than dismantle our current system and naively turn everything over to the government, I would prefer that the current system implement tort reform (which has NEVER been considered by the Democrats), and see them fix the problems of Medicare/Medicaid (which have been under the government’s watch for more than 4 decades and they still cannot fix). Also, the socialized health care on our Native American reservations, which I’ve written about several times, is a terrible mess and has never been efficient. Our government has been in charge of it for over 70 years. If that disaster can’t be resolved so that the government is running it as a quality health care system, why would anyone believe the government can suddenly and efficiently run a much larger health care system for more than 300 million citizens (and of course, non-citizens)? Our military is also under a type of socialized health care, and that too, is falling apart, which I’ve written about.

The disastrous mess of socialized medicine in Europe I’ve documented in a number of blog posts, using news stories from those countries. UK, Canada, France, Germany, and others are rationing health care, having terrible problems with containing costs and keeping up quality and enough physicians to have it operate correctly.

On our Native American reservations, those that have profits from casinos are no longer relying on the government system, but are pooling their resources to purchase group health insurance coverage. France and Germany are exploring making their systems more like the one we presently have here in America – that is a recent development, not one covered here in the fringe media but in overseas news sources.

ObamaCare, whatever its final shape or form, will be government-run, which should make anyone suspicious. And yes, it will be socialized, because he is a fascist/socialist who believes that our system must “redistribute the wealth,” have the government micromanage the citizens, and spread misery and punishments to those who prosper while rewarding those who underachieve or don’t contribute. This goes against the basic principles of America, those outlined in our nation’s documents by our founding fathers. It goes against our free market principles. And personally, I have no interest in emulating European health care systems. If I did, I’d move and live in Europe.
