Obama World... where the INTENTION is far better than any actual accomplishment to win the Nobel Peace Prize

This will be placed in the “Are you friggin’ kidding me?” file… is this some kind of consolation prize for Obama botching the Olympics bid?

President Barack Obama wins Nobel Peace Prize

President Barack Obama won the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize on Friday for “his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples,” the Norwegian Nobel Committee said, citing his outreach to the Muslim world and attempts to curb nuclear proliferation.

The stunning choice made Obama the third sitting U.S. president to win the Nobel Peace Prize and shocked Nobel observers because Obama took office less than two weeks before the Feb. 1 nomination deadline. Obama’s name had been mentioned in speculation before the award but many Nobel watchers believed it was too early to award the president.

Speculation had focused on Zimbabwe’s Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai, a Colombian senator and a Chinese dissident, along with an Afghan woman’s rights activist.

The Nobel committee praised Obama’s creation of “a new climate in international politics” and said he had returned multilateral diplomacy and institutions like the U.N. to the center of the world stage. The plaudit appeared to be a slap at President George W. Bush from a committee that harshly criticized Obama’s predecessor for resorting to largely unilateral military action in the wake of the Sept. 11 terror attacks.

Rather than recognizing concrete achievement, the 2009 prize appeared intended to support initiatives that have yet to bear fruit: reducing the world stock of nuclear arms, easing American conflicts with Muslim nations and strengthening the U.S. role in combating climate change.

“Only very rarely has a person to the same extent as Obama captured the world’s attention and given its people hope for a better future,” Thorbjoern Jagland, chairman of the Nobel Committee said. “In the past year Obama has been a key person for important initiatives in the U.N. for nuclear disarmament and to set a completely new agenda for the Muslim world and East-West relations.”

He added that the committee endorsed “Obama’s appeal that ‘Now is the time for all of us to take our share of responsibility for a global response to global challenges.’”

Such irony that Obama receives this international prize less than a week after left-wing-leaning Saturday Night Live spoofed him royally for accomplishing NOTHING to date in his presidency. And it’s the same week Obama snubbed another Nobel Peace Prize recipient… the Dalai Lama.

Fark.com points out, “There were 205 candidates & 33 on the short list. That short list included Prime Minister Tsvangirai of Zimbabwe (Mugabe’s chief opponent) & Dr. Sima Simar, an Afghan rights activist.”

On the brighter side, Chris Matthews must be tingling all over this morning with this stunning news.

Instead, what actually won this was a combination of a campaign slogan of “Hope and Change™”, not being George W. Bush, and Apology Tour 2009™. Seriously. He’d only been President for what, two weeks before the nomination deadline of Feb 1st, 2009?

This prize has now, finally, had the coffin nailed shut of relevancy…

Except for the fact that the Nobel Peace prize has become a silly and worthless political statement in recent years, Obama’s award must be an insult to the many who actually earned the award.

Lech Walesa received the prize for risking his life in a successful and extremely brave effort to toss communism out of Poland.

Barack Obama made a few speeches, apologized for all the ills America has brought to the earth and, most important, he said he’s not George Bush.

I think the answer is simple.

After his crushing defeat in Copenhagen, his inability to resolve Gitmo, the beating he’s taking on healthcare, his angst over whether to increase troop strength in Afghanistan, his failure to pass Cap and Trade before his pending second defeat in Copenahgen, his embarrassing progress with Iran and the mean way Netanyahu spoke to him at the U.N., the Nobel Committee decided to give him the award to boost his self esteem. A perfectly legitimate liberal reason to give someone an award.

In essence, this is a great big international hug because they thought he needed one.

Trying to access the Nobel Prize website for the last 10 minutes, still spinning, can’t get on. Must be a LOT of traffic, wonder what that’s all about?
