Afghan student protesters in Kabul burned effigy of Pres. Obama

Pres. George W. Bush, Pres. Barack H. Obama… it doesn’t matter, apparently — all US presidents are hated, Americans are hated, and all are in their crosshairs. Afghans set an effigy of Pres. Obama on fire in front of the Afghan parliament during a protest this weekend. Rumors were that Marines had desecrated the Koran/Quran, which sounds like a bunch of hogwash to me. Our troops are typically extremely respectful of other cultures and their religious symbols and documents, and I find it impossible to believe they did this.

But all it takes is one unsubstantiated rumor spread by the Taliban (investigations are confirming they started the rumor to undermine the United States) to spark riots and effigy-burnings.

Did anyone tell them Obama won the Nobel Peace Prize?

Geo TV: Afghans torch Obama effigy over Quran abuse claims

KABUL: Furious Afghans torched an effigy of US President Barack Obama and hurled stones at police today during a mass protest over allegations that Western troops set fire to a copy of the Koran.

A crowd of around 1,000 demonstrators, mainly university students, marched through the streets of the capital Kabul before massing in front of the national parliament building and hurling stones at riot police as well as an armoured vehicle which blocked them from going down one street.

Police responded by firing into the air, dispersing the crowd for a brief period before they massed again.

The demonstrators, almost all men, chanted: “Death to America, death to Jews and Christians!” as they burned a model of Obama and a US flag.

Some wore black ribbons on their foreheads, calling for a jihad.

Make your damn decision already Obama! Either do what McCrystal requested and send the troops to Afghanistan or bring them all home and get the f*ck out of that sh*thole! The whole BS of using the excuse for the upcoming runoff election in Afghanistan doesn’t work. When you have hundreds of angry muslims protesting in Afghanistan’s capital and burning an effigy of Obama because of rumors that American troops had desecrated the Koran. Is the election of either one going [to] amount to a hill of beans?

From Rocket News:

…The US-led Nato force has denied the claims [of the Koran being burned by US troops], saying it has investigated the incident in Wardak province and found the allegations to be groundless.

The local authorities there have so far supported Nato.

They say they did find evidence that a Koran had been burnt, but blamed drug addicts and said the Taliban may be spreading rumours that foreign troops were responsible to provoke anti-American unrest.
