Jumping the Shark: Larry David’s Slam on Christianity with ‘Peeing on Christ’ Episode and HBO’s Endorsement of It

I’ve not got cable TV at home, so I’ve never watched the show Curb Your Enthusiasm. Over the years, I’ve heard some lukewarm to decent things about it and it’s won a fair share of awards. Not having ever watched it, I can’t say if it’s as good as some seem to think.
Or as bad.
From Big Hollywood, Larry David’s ‘Piss Christ’:
…“Did you happen to see the episode to which I refer? Assuming you did not catch the episode, briefly stated: Larry pisses on the face of a painting of Jesus Christ, followed by mocking of Christians who believe the piss drop on the face of Jesus is a tear, thus they’ve witnessed a miracle. I wonder how many other viewers, Christian and non Christian, are similarly shocked and disgusted? Of course, the hypocrisy is that Mr. David would never exhibit such gross contempt for any other religion, especially Islam.
“Can you imagine the sh*t storm that would follow if David pissed on a painting of the prophet Muhammad? Of course, HBO, the complicit scum that they are, would not have allowed that to air.”
Like I’ve said, I’ve never watched the show. Now I pretty sure I don’t want to… better things to do with my time than watch this putrid load of buffalo dung. I looked up this particular episode. It aired this week (October 25, 2009) and is titled “The Bare Midriff.” Only two comments were logged at this point on TV.com (not indicative of a strong following if after 48 hours, only two people have commented on a given show), and neither commenter expressed especially high or low opinions of the episode.
So, I’m not sure how to fairly judge this based on any kind of first-hand knowledge. So I won’t even try.
This was my Lord and Savior, and that of millions of Christians, who was desecrated by David, all for a cheap laugh, all to make a few bucks. For that, I am disgusted, but not all that surprised. If Hollywood liberals can lovingly embrace the egomaniacal, left-wing gay thug Perez Hilton for smearing, mocking, and calling Christian beauty queen Carrie Prejean vile names on his vulgar website (including using the “C” word), then urinating on a picture of Christ is nothing to these self-absorbed, hypocritical weasels.
Did David “jump the shark” like Fonzie did on Happy Days three decades ago in a desperate, ill-fated attempt to build up dying viewership? Why would HBO go along with this tawdry attack on Christianity, unless they thought it would delight enough non-Christians to bolster their revenue?
Knowing the warped, backassward mentality of so many in liberal Hollywood (they’re still clamoring to free filmmaker/child molester/rapist Roman Polanski, so I rest my case), David will probably get tons of free publicity for being “cutting edge” and “daring,” and a guaranteed Emmy next year. If he had done this with an image of any other religion’s spiritual leader, such as the Dalai Lama, Buddha, or Muhammad… yeah, you know the rest.
What a contemptible jackass. Not just from a snotty “I don’t give a flying fig about desecrating your Holy Savior” middle-finger salute mentality. But, from a business standpoint.
Alienating Christians during this agitated political atmosphere, during the worst economic recession in decades, just may backfire. Christians and conservatives in general are getting really fed up with this one-sided punching match from smug, rich liberals in the entertainment industry and in Washington, DC. They will ultimately retaliate, not with slings and arrows and vicious, slobbering diatribes like the maniacal Keith Olbermann or the bubble-headed left-winger Janeane Garofalo and their ilk do. No. They do it by not watching. Money talks. Votes count.
We’ll see what happens. This is going to get ugly.

If he’s this desperate for ratings, David should instead have put on some water skis and tried to break Fonzie’s record for shark jumping.

Larry David, who has a series on HBO – Curb Your Enthusiasm – has finally reached a new low. I used to enjoy his show. It was funny; his self deprecating humor and his lack of reverence for the politically correct was refreshing.
Late yesterday, I read a story on BigHollywood about his latest episode where he does his own version of “Piss Christ”. Today, it’s big news on the Fox website with an attached poll.
“Was Larry David always this crude? Would he think it’s comedic if someone urinated on a picture of his mother?” [Bill] Donohue [president of the Catholic League] said in a statement. “This might be fun to watch, but since HBO only likes to dump on Catholics (it was just a couple of weeks ago that Sarah Silverman insulted Catholics on ‘Real Time with Bill Maher’) and David is Jewish, we’ll never know.”
Donohue is right. HBO “entertainers” only do dump on Catholics, and by extension, Christians. As far as I’m concerned, any attack on a Catholic is an attack on all Christians. It would be no different if his “jokes” were aimed at Baptists or Methodists. A Christian is a Christian, no matter what church they belong to, just as there are numerous sects of Muslims.

I don’t need to watch HBO… Odd that an “entertainment” co. would choose to attack Christians. What’s in it for HBO? Fewer viewers?
Disgusting and disgraceful. Christians have been attacked more than any other religion in this country for the last decade. Even more than Muslims. Why is that?
Chester, one reason, one big reason that Christians are attacked is because they don’t retaliate and everyone knows they won’t. Muslims would issue death threats and some would even follow through with them, as in the murder of Theo Van Gogh. Christians constantly turn the other cheek and those who bully and denigrate us know they have a free pass to continue to do so.
What amazes me most is that it’s coming from Jews. Christians are the best friends they have and yet they are some of the worst anti-Christian bashers out there. Regardless of what Obama says, America IS a Christian nation and we have been the biggest supporters and best ally Israel has ever had.
