Controversy Brews Over ‘American Idol’s’ Adam Lambert’s Debut Album Cover & Tiger Beat Magazine Covers, Then and Now

Posted By on October 29, 2009

Tiger Beat magazine is still around, that monthly pop cultural fanzine primarily catering to the pubescent teen-idol fantasies of young females. This month’s Tiger Beat features Adam Lambert, the flamboyant runner-up of the 2009 American Idol competition. His album cover is getting a lot of mixed reactions… mostly negative attention. Actually, I kinda like it.

Did they truly expect something blasé and mainstream from the unconventional grunge-meets-glam Lambert?

I think David Bowie would approve…

From AOL, Adam Lambert Debuts New Album Cover:

Adam Lambert’s first album, ‘For Your Entertainment,’ has an official cover.

The ‘American Idol’ runner-up appears with blue hair, a gloved hand and heavy makeup in his CD artwork debut.

AOL is conducting an online poll on the new album cover. So far, about 78 percent hate it.

Here’s Adam’s debut album cover, with accompanying “slightly creepy, teen-type” text, as featured this month on Tiger Beat’s online site. Click the image to enlarge.

From Heckler Spray, Adam Lambert Wanted His Album Cover To Look Like That, Honest:

The artwork for Adam Lambert’s new album For Your Entertainment has already kicked up one hell of a fuss.

Why? It’s simple. It looks like one of those awful transfer-print T-shirts that people who like wolves buy from tatty market stalls. It looks like something that the redneck wife of a professional wrestling fan would airbrush onto the back of her leather jacket. It looks like a poster that someone you hate would buy. It’s bizarre.

But it’s OK, because Adam Lambert says it’s all deliberate. Unfortunately it means that Kris Allen’s new album artwork will now probably show him covered in glitter and bumming a unicorn, but we’ll deal with that when we have to.

While the faces and hair styles may change from one decade to the next, the teeny bopper hype at Tiger Beat still rocks on…

Here is a nostalgic collection of Tiger Beat magazine covers over the past 40-plus years. The last one is, well, eye catching.

I guess everyone forgets Poison’s album cover for their debut, “Look What the Cat Dragged In”. Although they made better looking girls than Adam does. He looks like Pink done by a drag queen.
