The election race is on in parts of the country, but the race making the most headlines (second to New Jersey, it appears) is the one in congressional district 23 in New York. Most precisely, that race between conservative Doug Hoffman and Democrat Bill Owens.

Republican Dede Scozzafava, after accepting more than $900,000 from the Republican party to help finance her campaign for NY-23, in less than 24 hours after suspending that campaign, turned her endorsement and help to her Democrat opponent. Because his liberal political views, like higher taxes (and New York doesn’t pay enough taxes already???) and bigger, more gluttonous government, better reflect her own ideologies than they do that of a conservative. We all knew she was a fake Republican and a terrible choice by the GOP. Now we know Dede is also a fake conservative with no loyalty whatsoever to her party or her constituents. What did the Democrats offer her to sweet-talk her into giving her support to the Democrat?

RINO. Turncoat. Opportunist. Hypocrite.

Betrayal always has a price, and the Democrat party met whatever it was RINO Dede demanded so that she would then betray her Republican supporters. Additionally, the Democrats have lavished huge-huge amounts of money on the Democrat candidate.

While earlier surveys and polls show that conservative Doug Hoffman is the favorite to win, it ain’t over ’til it’s over. Your vote counts! Rush to the voting polls and vote for Hoffman. Let us never forget what happened last election in Minnesota, when liberal comedian Al Franken was voted in as senator by a few measly hundred votes (and with the suspected tampering by ACORN, many believe actually lost the race), replacing Republican Norm Coleman.

This race isn’t about party line, about Republicans or Democrats. It’s beyond that. It’s about American values. It’s about political principles. It’s about spending less, taxing less. It’s about strengthening our nation’s defense. It’s about the government listening to the voices of dissension, the voices of conservative reason. It’s about the American people being sick and tired of Congress and the White House mandating how we all live and reshaping and dismantling our Constitution.

It’s about liberty.

Everyone needs to vote in NY-23, every conservative, whether registered as a Republican or a Democrat, needs to vote for Hoffman. If you know someone who is unable to get transportation to the polls, please lend a hand and help out.

In political circles, this is what is known as an “off-year election,’’ meaning the races are occurring in an odd-numbered year when there are no congressional races, much less a presidential contest, to worry about.

But, for hundreds of local officials and challengers and for those they hope to represent next year, Tuesday’s elections are big.
Voters will be choosing county legislators, judges, town supervisors and mayors, highway superintendents, clerks and others. Many of these officials will help control multimillion-dollar budgets, and some will have to make key decisions about where development should take place in their jurisdictions and what areas should perhaps be set aside for stronger environmental protection. They will have to negotiate contracts and work with lawyers. They will have to balance pressing infrastructure demands with the need to keep taxes low. They will have to get the most of their public employees and provide the best service possible to residents.

But, first, voters have to decide who is worthy of these elected positions. And, yes, every vote does matter.

They learned (if they read the news ) that — drum roll, please: The betraying endorsement was engineered by the Barack H. Obama White House.

Politico reports that the administration and Friends of Barack lured Scozzafava to the dark side by playing on her senses of grievance and entitlement:

The story of how it went down began in Washington, where the White House and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee quarterbacked the effort to secure Scozzafava’s endorsement.

According to several senior Democratic officials, Rep. Steve Israel, a Long Island Democrat and DCCC official, was dispatched to meet face to face with Scozzafava in her upstate New York district, within hours of her departure from the race, to make the case on behalf of the national party. He carried the proxy of the White House and congressional Democrats.

Scozzafava, according to one account, was receptive to the entreaties after becoming a target of intense conservative opposition over the past month. The nomination of the moderate to liberal assemblywoman who was backed by the national GOP establishment had become a rallying point for conservative grass-roots activists, who argued that she was far too liberal for them to support.

“She’s devastated that these outside interests are trying to hijack her moderate wing of the party,” said one New York Democrat who had spoken to Scozzafava.

Hijack? Those forces (outside or in) were trying to push the moderates aside and support the conservative wing… just as the moderates did the exact opposite when eleven GOP party bosses anointed DIABLO Scozzafava to succeed RINO John McHugh, who jumped at the chance to join the Obama administration. (For those of you who have lived in Plato’s cave for some months now, RINO is of course “Republican in name only,” while DIABLO, coined by Mark Steyn, stands for “Democrat in all but label only.”)

Doug Hoffman the Conservative candidate for Congress in New York’s 23rd District today received the endorsement of former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani.

Rudy Giuliani said: “On Tuesday, the voters of the North Country have a very clear choice when they cast their vote for Congress. It’s a choice between a tax and spend Nancy Pelosi Democrat and a common sense conservative Republican named Doug Hoffman.

“Doug Hoffman has what it takes to be a great Congressman. He’s not a professional politician; he’s a private citizen, and a successful small businessman. He’s somebody who cares about his community and wants to give something back. As a CPA, Doug knows the toll that high taxes and the ever growing deficit are having on this nation and its people. He understands that we must cut spending and cut taxes if we want to get our economy moving again. As the father of a decorated State Trooper, who was shot in the line of duty, he understands the need to be tough with those who threaten us; whether they are career criminals on our streets or terrorists who want to destroy the freedoms we cherish. In Congress, he will be a vocal advocate for smaller government, less red tape and a government that works for the taxpayer, not against them. On election day, please cast your vote for Doug Hoffman he’s the type of Congressman America needs.”

New York Republicans got a rock in their trick-or-treat bags over the Halloween weekend, as Dede Scozzafava ripped off her million-dollar Republican mask and revealed herself to be a Democrat. It was never a very good disguise, but every previous attempt to peer beneath it was punished with stern lectures from Newt Gingrich and the rest of the party establishment. The bags of contributor money Republicans handed to the Scozzafava campaign would have been more usefully spent hiring detectives to trail ACORN operatives, and keep Democrat voter fraud down to manageable levels.
