Financial Expert Peter Schiff Explains Team Obama’s Illusion of Economic Recovery (video)

Posted By Vicki McClure Davidson on September 5, 2010

Last week, as markets and millions of Americans awaited the release the following day of the new jobless report for August, financial whiz and market expert Peter Schiff said in the FOX interview video below that Obama’s stimulus package has not strengthened, but severely weakened, the economy.

Schiff explains the illusion of economic recovery created by Team Obama.

Seeing the dismal job report the following day, with its 7.5-million jobs deficit, and the damage that Team Obama has done to the economy with the stimulus/porkulus package, Schiff was dead-on correct in his appraisal — it’s all an illusion.

FOX News: Peter Schiff: Illusion of Economic Recovery | September 2010

From The Foundry, The Audacity of Failure:

By every objective measure, President Barack Obama’s economic stimulus package has been a complete failure. When President Obama was selling his stimulus plan to the American people, he promised it would save or create 3.5 million jobs by the end of 2010. At the time, employment stood at about 134.3 million, according to the Labor Department’s most commonly used measure. That established an Obama jobs target for December 2010 at 137.8 million. According to the latest jobs report, total U.S. employment stood at 130.3 million in August, which means the cumulative Obama jobs deficit stands at 7.5 million.

From The Washington Post, Obama Expands Stimulus Goals – As Economic Outlook Grows More Dire, Early Target for Job Growth Is Bolstered:

President-elect Barack Obama has expanded his goals for a massive federal stimulus package to keep pace with the increasingly grim economic outlook, aiming to create or preserve at least 3 million jobs over the next two years.

The more aggressive target, up from 2.5 million jobs set a month ago, comes after a four-hour meeting last week in which Obama’s top economic advisers told him the economy is now expected to lose as many as 3.5 million jobs over the next year. Obama was told that could drive unemployment, currently at 6.7 percent, above 9 percent, a figure not seen since the recession of the early 1980s.

[...]

As the recession has deepened, Obama’s proposal for economic stimulus has soared from $175 billion during the campaign to nearly $800 billion today, a sum that some say would fund the most expensive measure ever approved by Congress.

The rapid expansion of the package has generated fears that it could easily evolve into a grab bag of provisions that appeal to traditional Democratic constituencies such as unions, environmental activists and local officials but fail to deliver the necessary medicine for the economy.

Because they are intended to pump cash quickly into the economy, stimulus measures are released from the usual budgetary constraints that require the cost of new programs to be covered by cutting spending elsewhere or by raising taxes — a one-time pass that could invite lawmakers to load the bill up with favored items.

George Neumayr at The American Spectator wrote this blistering critique of Obama’s “Operation Iraqi Freedom” speech:

Not that anyone should expect logical consistency from [Pres. Obama] at this point, but one line in the speech invites an obvious question: If, according to him, war should not be paid for on a credit card — “We spent a trillion dollars at war, often financed by borrowing from overseas,” he said — why is he launching a phony new debt-financed war on unemployment? Why is a trillion dollars that we don’t have foolish to borrow for war but smart to borrow for “stimulus”?

Anytime a politician talks, as Obama did in this speech, about giving Americans “the education they deserve” and the “skills they need to compete in a global economy,” he is talking about deficit spending. And who exactly would be giving these beleaguered Americans the education they deserve and struggling entrepreneurs the skills to flourish in global free markets? Obama’s Department of Education officials who trotted off to the Al Sharpton rally last weekend? The socialists sprinkled throughout his administration and agencies who have never held a private-sector job in their lives let alone created one? Department of Energy officials who consider the very creation of wealth and expansion of economies to be bad for the environment?

Obama’s speech on Tuesday was reminiscent of the one he gave to dozing cadets at West Point last year. In that address, he complained about the distracting burdens of the presidency and drew a strained connection between “national security and our economy,” by which he meant a ballooning federal government.

The core responsibilities of the presidency, from protecting America’s borders to defeating her enemies, leave him cold while the bogus and reckless ones he invents for it occupy his attention. He says that he abhors nation-building. But that’s not true. There is one nation he wishes very much to change at its foundation — his own.

Two-Faced RINO: Last Month, Sen. Lindsey Graham Slammed Tea Party Movement as “Fringe” That Would Die Out — Now Seeks Their Support

Posted By Vicki McClure Davidson on September 4, 2010

Sen. Lindsey Graham... a statist RINO who doesn't understand what the tea party movement is about, dissed it in the press, but now wants its support

What a maroon…

Sen. Lindsey Graham is most definitely feeling the lack of love from conservative South Carolina voters, so he is reaching out to the very same tea party conservatives he nastily dismissed as a “fringe” movement that would soon “die out” just a month or so ago in the press.

How quickly things change.

Reported by The Hill:

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) is playing defense against conservatives in his state angry with his record.

Graham has reached out to the Tea Party movement in the Palmetto State this week and appeared on conservative radio in a bid to explain his record to right-leaning voters.

Some grassroots conservatives are frustrated with Graham for partnering too often with President Obama and congressional Democrats. Graham was the lead Senate GOP negotiator on climate change and immigration legislation, though neither package moved forward in the Senate.

Graham met with the Tea Party group in Charleston, S.C., on Wednesday in a closed-door meeting. The Charleston County Republican Party has been among several county chapters and Tea Party groups to censure Graham, citing concerns about the second-term senator’s stances on immigration, Supreme Court nominees and energy and climate legislation, among other issues.

The Tea Party appearance was paired with appearances on conservative radio in the state, where Graham faced tough questions about whether he was adequately conservative.

Graham defended himself as a mainstream conservative, and expressed worry that public officials like himself were being effectively prohibited from expressing disagreement with the party.

This is too rich. Lindsey is like a popular girl in a B-rated high school flick who arrogantly, loudly turns down the unpopular science nerd’s invitation to go together to the big school dance because she thinks the narcissist football hero hunk will ask her to be his date. He doesn’t. Uh, oh… so she demurely returns to the nerd, asking him to take her to the dance, hoping he’ll somehow forget her thoughtless, rude rebuff.

To which, the nerd (aka tea party movement) should respond, “Bite me!”

From Gateway Pundit, Tea Party-Basher Lindsey Graham Decides to Reach Out to Tea Party:

Just last month Lindsey Graham told reporters,

“The tea party will die out… Republicans will move away from the fringe.”

[...]

But that was last month…

Now, the tea party-basher is reaching out to conservatives and tea party groups to gain their support.

Good luck.

This outstanding essay was posted in July at Political Christian, Lindsey Graham, the non-Patrick Henry… here’s a portion:

Senator Lindsey Graham has, once again, shown us the fallacy of simply looking at a party label as a sign of common sense and values that will preserve our country. According to a recent New York Times article he admits, “Everything I’m doing now in terms of talking about climate, talking about immigration, talking about Gitmo is completely opposite of where the Tea Party movement’s at.” And he appears to take delight in his position of sticking his thumb in the eye of patriots who love their country.

Of course, his view of the world requires him to see no value in the tea partiers that have been arroused by, not just the socialism of the President and his party, but by patriot pretenders as himself. He sees Americans as irresolute as himself. Lindsey Graham is so wrapped up in his position that he cannot comprehend that the American people would inconvenience themselves and turn off Dancing With The Stars long enough to throw charlatans like himself into the unemployment line… or to those of his elevated stature, into the brotherhood of overpaid lobbyists. Graham avers that “The problem with the Tea Party, I think it’s just unsustainable because they can never come up with a coherent vision for governing the country. It will die out.”

The man lives in the same fantasy world as the Democratic majority he is so fond of working with in the destruction of our country. He thinks, “If you look at the Republicans who are likely to come into the Senate in 2010, they’re gonna be more like me, not less like me.” If this is the case, it is our fault. We cannot let this happen.

He asks the tea partiers. “What do you want to do? You take back your country — and do what with it?” This shows his perverse thinking that assumes we want to do something with it… big government thinking. We don’t want to do anything with it. We want to be left alone… and have the government stick to it’s legitimate functions of keeping us safe, and doing things that we really cannot do for ourselves and are necessary for our survival.

In a world crying out for another Ronald Reagan, Graham says, “We don’t have a lot of Reagan-type leaders in our party. Remember Ronald Reagan Democrats? I want a Republican that can attract Democrats.” Once more showing a disconnect from the core of the Republican Party he declares, “Ronald Reagan would have a hard time getting elected as a Republican today.”

The man honestly thinks he’s in “the political middle” (Sen. “Grahamnesty” was all for illegal alien amnesty, helped author a piece of pro-amnesty legislation, spoke out against Arizona’s SB 1070 law, and then inexplicably did a 180-turn to support it)… the man is utterly, hopelessly clueless — or basing his bogus support on recent poll numbers. Which he hopes will be long forgotten by his constituents after/if he’s voted in again in 2014 and can return to being a weaselly Democrat Lite, two-faced RINO.

This video is just for you, Senator…

Fullerene on Google Homepage Commemorates 25th Anniversary of Discovery of the Buckyball (video)

Google logo celebrates 25th anniversary of the buckyball

Twenty-five years ago today, on September 4, 1985, the buckyball was discovered at Rice University, and Google is commemorating that scientific discovery with today’s doodle logo on its homepage — the buckyball image is interactive.

For those not familiar with a buckyball (is sometimes spelled “bucky ball”), which is officially called a fullerene, here is Wikipedia’s explanation:

A fullerene is any molecule composed entirely of carbon, in the form of a hollow sphere, ellipsoid, or tube. Spherical fullerenes are also called buckyballs, and cylindrical ones are called carbon nanotubes or buckytubes. Fullerenes are similar in structure to graphite, which is composed of stacked graphene sheets of linked hexagonal rings; but they may also contain pentagonal (or sometimes heptagonal) rings.

The first fullerene to be discovered, and the family’s namesake, was buckminsterfullerene (C60), prepared in 1985 by Richard Smalley, Robert Curl, James Heath, Sean O’Brien, and Harold Kroto at Rice University. The name was an homage to Richard Buckminster Fuller, whose geodesic domes it resembles. Fullerenes have since been found to occur (if rarely) in nature.

The discovery of fullerenes greatly expanded the number of known carbon allotropes, which until recently were limited to graphite, diamond, and amorphous carbon such as soot and charcoal. Buckyballs and buckytubes have been the subject of intense research, both for their unique chemistry and for their technological applications, especially in materials science, electronics, and nanotechnology.

From Buzztab, Google celebrates Buckyball with a new doodle:

Google has a new doodle in its collection and this time it’s an animated buckyball. Google is celebrating the 25th anniversary of buckyball through an interactive animated doodle. Naturally, many Google users are wondering about buckyball. Buckyball is a carbon molecule structure which was discovered in 1985 by James Heath and several other scientists at the Rice University.

Shaped like a hollow sphere, the buckyball is strictly composed of carbon atoms. A model structure of buckyball could be like a wire-framed football. Buckyball is the first ball-shaped molecule of the family of carbon molecules.

Since the discovery of buckyball, several molecules with similar arrangements have been found for instance, nano onions and bucktubes etc. With the discovery of buckyball, a whole new domain of research on carbon allotropes opened up.

After its discovery, buckyball was extensively studied for its possible usage in electronics.

Here’s a brief video of today’s interactive Google logo:

From TechBlog, Bucky Ball Google Logo Commemorates 25th Anniversary:

According to YouTube user “kautalia”, Google changed its logo to an animated bucky ball at midnight worldwide today “to commemorate the 25th anniversary of bucky balls – named for carbon molecules that make such a shape resembling the pattern of a soccer ball.”
