Not Being Snarky: “Biggest Loser” at the White House, WH Salad Recipe Included

I’m not being snarky… the “Biggest Loser” was in the White House. Gotta love it.
A TV episode of NBC’s The Biggest Loser at the White House aired on election night a few days ago, but I just stumbled upon the information at Patterico’s terrific blog this morning. The irony of this on election night is simply delicious…
Patterico’s Pontifications: The Biggest Loser (Updated):
ABC’s Jake Tapper reveals the White House unintentionally hit on the perfect metaphor for tonight’s election results:
“It’s unclear which White House staffer thought it would be a good idea to have an NBC show called “The Biggest Loser” visit the White House in an episode that aired on what was shaping up to be a tough election night for President Obama and the Democratic party, but the contestants stopped by 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue Tuesday night as election returns came in.”
The show is about people trying to lose weight but, at least for tonight, the White House may be the biggest loser.
From CalorieLab:
Bob, Jillian and the “Biggest Loser” contestants got together with Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and Senator Robert Casey. Daniel and Rebecca told the senators what it was like to be big in school and how they struggled with obesity. They all asked the senators to help them fight obesity.
Senators Gillibrand and Casey listened intently to the contestants, thanked them for sharing their stories and promised to help as much as they could.
So, what did they prepare at the White House?
From Obama Foodorama: The Biggest Loser White House Salad: The Recipe
On an episode that aired last night, the cast and contestants from the NBC competition weightloss show The Biggest Loser harvested veggies from the White House Kitchen Garden with Food Initiative Coodinator Sam Kass, then went into the kitchen to “cook” it with Kass and Executive Chef Cris Comerford.
The Biggest Loser White House Salad
Ingredients
- 1 head of fresh lettuce, wash, dry and cut into bite size pieces
- 1 cucumber peeled, and cut into bite sized pieces
- 2 fresh in season tomatoes, wash and cut into bite size pieces
- ¼ red onion, peel and cut as thinly as possible
- 1 bunch fresh basil, wash and chop into big pieces
- 4 tbsp lemon juice
- 1/3 cup olive oil
- 1 tsp honey
- Salt and pepper to taste
Method
Combine lettuce, cucumbers, tomatoes, and onions in large mixing bowl. In sealable container, combine oil, lemon juice, honey and salt and pepper. Cover container and shake vigorously. Add dressing to salad and serve immediately.
From The Lonely Conservative, Obama isn’t watching the election returns – Probably watching The Biggest Loser instead:
Of course the democrats are down playing today’s elections. It doesn’t bode well for their future. As I write this Chris Christie is up in New Jersey, the bluest of blue states. Bob McDonnell’s won Virginia – in fact, it looks like Republicans swept the state. And Doug Hoffman has the lead in NY 23. No wonder Obama says he isn’t watching the elections. Maybe he’s watching The Biggest Loser.
UPDATE, July 15, 2010… guess who’s a taxpayer-paid, Obama czar now? Crikey, I can’t make this cuckoo stuff up. Gateway Pundit reports: Oh Brother. Obama Makes Personal Cook a Policy Advisor
