What’s with the Joking & Shout-Outs, Mr. President? Obama Fails in Leadership with Fort Hood Massacre Address, More on Shooter Hasan (video)

This was a prepared speech? This stumbling, repetitive, bland speech, with no strong, oratory imagery, no poetic metaphors, no soaring patriotic language, no inspiring quotations, no real, polished address of the heinous terrorism that occurred at Fort Hood? This was a MASSACRE, on American soil, on a US military base.

Not in a million years is this what I expected from our president. He failed to deliver any message of solid reassurance or worth to our nation, to our military. It sounded more like what a veteran police chief would relay during a hurried press conference after a local killer had been apprehended by law enforcement, less like a speech made by the president of the United States of America following the largest massacre on US soil since 9/11.

America needed reassurance, Fort Hood needed leadership. Obama failed to deliver on either.

Our “Where’s My Teleprompter?” Commander in Chief, trying to put aside his “24/7 campaign mode” to express “spontaneous” concern or condolences for the massacre at Fort Hood. POTUS had several hours to hammer out this important speech with the Team Obama speechwriters. His public address decrying the murder of abortionist George Tiller back in April was better.

Poor job of leadership, poor presentation, poor focus, jabbering on and on, taking nearly two minutes to finally start talking about the bloody massacre at the Texas military base. The casual joking and shout-out were inappropriate, to say the least.

Scroll to bottom for commentary about Obama’s erroneous “shout-out” to Dr. Joe Medicine Crow.

Pres. Obama Makes “Jokes” – Fort Hood Massacre – Michael Savage Radio Program, November 5, 2009

From ConservativeNewsMedia:

In his initial televised remarks following the devastating American tragedy, Barack Obama first addresses White House conference attendees — even giving one a chummy “shout-out” — before finally turning his attention towards the horrific mass killing at the Ft. Hood Army base in Texas.

At least 12 are dead and 31 wounded.

Shooter Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan was still believed dead at the time of the two following news stories:

FOX News: Fort Hood Tragedy — Barack Obama Gives Odd “Shout-Out” Before He Comments on Massacre

FOX News: Bill O’Reilly Fort Hood Shootings & Major Nidal Malik Hasan | November 5, 2009

In this next video, Lt. Col. Ralph Peters calls Fort Hood the “new 9/11″ and expresses outrage over the White House’s, the military’s, and the media’s PR attempts to minimize the Muslim shooter’s terrorist acts.

FOX: Lt. Col. Ralph Peters to Bill O’Reilly: Ft. Hood Shooter Major Hasan Is An Islamic Terrorist

From Bill Wilson, Sterling James Estates: …Apology from Obama for his insulting and inappropriate Remarks after Ft. Hood:

As a stunned nation hung its head in sorrow, it was told that the President of the United States would emerge from the White House to make a statement.

And, indeed, he did make an obligatory statement of regret – but only after spending three full minutes in front of the camera clowning with his fellow cabinet members and those who had shown up earlier for his hastily convened Indian Summit. The President even went so far as to do a fun-filled “shout-out” to one Summit attendee.

Then, and only then – at the conclusion of his self-serving stand-up routine – did Barack Obama get around to deploring the massacre and extending sympathy to the bereaved families and a grieving nation.

Regarding Pres. Obama’s strange shout-out to Dr. Joe Medicine Crow…

From NewsBusters: Obama Gives Shout Out to ‘Congressional Medal of Honor Winner’ Who Isn’t:

Ah, the dangers of giving shout outs without a teleprompter. Crow is not a Medal of Honor recipient. As noted by the Congressional Medal of Honor Society:

The Medal of Honor is the highest award for valor in action against an enemy force which can be bestowed upon an individual serving in the Armed Services of the United States. Generally presented to its recipient by the President of the United States of America in the name of Congress, it is often called the Congressional Medal of Honor.

Crow’s name is not included on the Society’s Medal of Honor recipient list. He was, however, awarded the Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor, in August.

Obama, often described as “cerebral” by the mainstream media, should know the difference between the Medal of Honor and the Medal of Freedom, especially since he personally awarded the latter to Crow. Don’t expect his blunder to receive wide coverage. It’s not something he can blame George Bush for.

From Ace of Spades HQ: Former President and First Lady George and Laura Bush Go to Ft. Hood:

Uncle Jimbo mentioned this in his earlier post, and I missed it this weekend. The story linked says the news broke yesterday, I can tell you I’m pretty close to Hood, with some personal and professional ties to the base, and I didn’t hear a whisper of it. Or better said (not that I would hear about it), there was no info about it locally, it was kept under wraps. No publicity.

This “man child” as Rush refers to him has never been anywhere near the military.
His priorities are extremely skewed, re. the refusal to attend Germany’s ceremony of the falling of the Berlin Wall.
He has no idea of the efforts the troops and their families make to keep this Country safe.
He is being steered by his advisers toward THEIR DOMESTIC POLICIES.

Indeed this was a tragedy. Committed by one of our own citizens — clearly a mental case who should have been \found out\ long before this.

This incident however, was not Pearl Harbor or 911.

Let’s not let hysterical hyperbole override common sense’.

    • admin says:

I’m not sure what your point is. Forty people were shot, 12 13 have died. Obama screwed up in how he publicly addressed the shooting. Hysterical hyperbole? Where? Point out the “hysterical hyperbole” in my summary. I’m guessing this is yet another lame statist “cut and paste” that you’re putting on conservative blogs without even reading them (which is typical for liberals… reading is SUCH a chore), but I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt.

This was the worst terrorist massacre of people on US soil since 9/11 – I did not mention Pearl Harbor, and as far as Pearl Harbor goes, that was an aggressive act of war by Japan. FDR and Bush did not spend a few minutes prior to either address to the nation blathering about non-related topics, making jokes or shout-outs. Your comment makes it sound like Obama was justified in joking and making a shout-out because fewer lives were lost than at Pearl or during 9/11?

This bloody attack occurred on a military base, where our soldiers and most Americans, for that matter, rightfully expect a level of security. Not hyperbole, but fact. Forty people being deliberately shot, with 12 13 dying, is beyond calling it a tragedy. The Muslim perpetrator yelling “Allah is great” points it towards an act of terrorism by a Muslim zealot, although investigation is still being conducted. As Commander in Chief, Obama’s address fell painfully short of what is expected of the Commander In Chief. Even if just one person had died at Fort Hood during the massacre, the president’s address should have delivered a certain level of leadership and reassurance – it did not. We did know at the time of the shooting that Hasan was Muslim, nor that he had expressed anti-American sentiments, nor that he had been trying to convert soldiers to Islam while he treated them as a military psychiatrist, nor that he had prepared himself that week to die — and at that time, it was believed that there was still two other shooters not yet apprehended. So a level of concern about safety for the base and the nation should have been better conveyed.

Obama’s address about the senseless killing of the abortionist, Dr. Tiller, was much more passionate, more thoughtful, and better delivered. More time had obviously gone into preparing it as compared to the Fort Hood address. And Obama babbling lightheartedly for nearly two minutes before addressing this massacre was ridiculous and inappropriate for the President of the United States of America. Inappropriate for ANYONE, for that matter.
